SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Ted Cruz's campaign is trying to make the most of Gov. Nikki Haley's endorsement of Marco Rubio days ahead of the South Carolina primary: driving sky-high his political expectations here.
"If he doesn't finish first, this is a massive loss," Jason Miller, a senior Cruz adviser, said hours after news reports began circulating that Haley would endorse Rubio at a rally Wednesday evening. "Rubio has to win here."
Earlier this week, Jeb Bush had called Haley's endorsement "the most powerful, meaningful one in the state." Haley's backing of Rubio comes on top of the support of Sen. Tim Scott and Rep. Trey Gowdy, who cut a new radio ad for Rubio on Wednesday.
"He has the very popular sitting governor, very popular junior senator, very popular upstate congressman. He has every favorable position going for him that he could ever hope to have," Miller said of Rubio. "If Rubio can't win here, under these favorable circumstances, where can he win?"
Current polls show Rubio and Cruz battling each other for second place far behind South Carolina front-runner Donald Trump....

More GOPe crap. She sold out faster than Rubio did. Why are Tea Party folks so gullible?
Guess it was the height of the movement and they bought into anyone that pandered.
You got that exactly right. I will never forget the day when Trump first ascended to top of polls, the normally placid PeRino was literally frothing at mouth, cursing Trump, on the show The Five.
Yes, interesting that hasn’t come up...
Remember Rubio’s 3,2,1 plan?
I guess it’s now 3,5,3,2 ?
Roe was instrumental in the launch of Cruzâs presidential campaign that defined him as the evangelical choice in the 2016 presidential election cycle, branding Cruz as âa divinely inspired warrior fighting a two-front battle against cultural secularism and big government
#42 Yes it is fun to watch especially with the Eric Boling/Donnie tRump man crush happening at the same time.
FYI Perino was at that meeting of the Establishment where they were raging about
trump needing to be beat and is making them look bad
#42! She gets the same tone and look when talking about Cruz.
She”s a full scale roll over W. Type Big Gov. RINO
Rubio should have looked at this Poll
Cruz by a country mile.He was very good.
Among the GOP mainstream in the State, she is still popular. It won’t move the needle that much, but it definitely gives Rubio a boost and severely undercuts Bush’s efforts. Rubio should end up third easily with this endorsement.
In logical terms that called a tortured path. Care to reconsider the logic by revising and extending your remarks?
As to Rubio, even as a strong Cruz supporter, if Rubio can run up to #1 in SC Primary is fine. That would lay bare the Trump asinine antics for what they really are. All smoke, no fire, failure.
Predicting in absolutes can be dangerous at exposing one’s grasp on reality. You didn’t make that prediction just before Iowa too, did you?
Conveniently forget all of us that collectively threw in a greater amount for Cruz?
How much have any of the trumpbots actually contributed to the DONEald? Damn little it sounds like. Talk is cheap.
Can Rubio even win Florida? Let alone any other state?
Actually I said Iowa was a tossup, Trump would win NH and SC.
D.C. grandfathered the transition from 21 to 18, setting August 1968 birthdate as the cutoff.
This meant that someone who was born in August 1968 or before could drink in Georgetown bars in 1987. My liver can attest to benefitting from this particular quirk.
I wonder too. If Rubio gets schlonged in SC she takes a big hit too.
That is a good cold-eyed look at reality. Cruz and Rubio are both lying globalists and it is incredible that Rush Limbaugh supports both.
I have been wondering why Limbaugh has been repeating non-stop for months that Cruz is a “consistent” conservative, the nearest thing to Reagan we will ever see. It is insane.
Haley > We like her better than any Democrat. Lindsey fans still probably love her. Probably 1/3rd of the population turned their back on her because she removed the flag from the Confederate Memorial at the Statehouse. Fortunately for her it went no further, those inclined can still fly the flag.
I think if she did run for reelection she would win over a Democrat, I hope so. She is good for bringing business to the State of SC. I’m disappointed in her but I know of no Republican who would be strong enough to run against her in a primary.
