The World Trade Center came down during the reign of George Bush, Trump growled. He kept us safe? That is not safe. Technically true, but, as is so often the case with Trump, the details came second to theme, and the theme went far beyond 9/11 or the gasps and boos Trumps comments brought. Trump slapped W on Iraq, too. The war in Iraq was a big, fat mistake. They lied, he said of Dubyas administration. They said there were weapons of mass destruction. There were none found.
Trump is saying that, under George W. Bush, the Republican Party allowed its understanding of politics to be corrupted. For whatever reason, under Bush, the GOP became a party that let self-aware rhetorical posturing dictate the way policy was formulated. The result was failure across the board. Worst of all was the ensuing failure of memory as Republicans forgot the winning arts and sciences. In so doing, they enabled America to lose its way in the hall of mirrors â and lose its greatness.
This is a dagger to the heart of the Bush legacy.

I also supported taking out Saddam. In hindsight, it was a mistake for the reasons you cited.
“Islam is a religion of peace”
That’s what Bush really lied about.
It goes in the face of ALL historical evidence, not to mention their own book.
What about Gulf War 1? Didn’t that begin all this nonsense? The UN was in the middle of monitoring following the war and there were no fly zones. Our politicos agreed there were WMDs in those years (ie..Clinton). GWB wanted the UN resolutions to mean something and hold Saddam to account. My bottom line question would be, what would have happened with total annihilation in GW 1? Secondly, what would be the case today if we had maintained a strong presence in Iraq the past 8 years?
I am willing to bet half my social security check, that Trump will eviscerate Hillary on Iraq war vote, her failure of record as secretary of state, her husband’s dis-respect for women and her tolerating it, white water, quick profits in options trading, millions in donations from foreign countries to Clinton Foundation, etc etc.
And Bush’s naivete in thinking Arabs could handle freedom.
Gulf War I was stupid. Who cares about Kuwait, just another backwards Islamic country anyway.
Trump has made it clear he is against abortions performed by planned parenthood. PP also provides a ton of health services to poor women, so there are some good aspects in PP.
I supported the Iraq invasion, not because I gave a damn about about WMDs, but because I wanted fear put into the hearts of the Muslim world and Hussein was a POS anyway. However, my support began to die for a few reasons: 1) silly rules of engagement, 2) Bush calling Islam a “religion of peace”, 3) a complete lack of a plan for after we took out Hussein. Even just leaving would have been a plan, but Bush decided to lollygag in Irag for years building schools and playgrounds while our guys got shot and blown up. Oh, and let’s not forget 4) Bush simply REFUSED to defend the invasion, ever, allowing the Left to stack talking point upon talking point against Republicans until Obama or some other Marxist a-hole became inevitable.
You are 100% correct.
I did supported the war but I’m pissed off at the way George didn’t say crap about Obama when he started to draw troops out of Iraq.
I’m ticked off at how quiet he was when the country needed him to stand up against the commie/muzz humping bastard who sits in the white hut.
One of the reasons why I like Trump. What ever he says, he stands by it right or wrong and will defend himself.
The political buzz was Bush had met w/ the neos BEFORE the election..... and cut the deal to invade BEFORE the election....to get their votes.
The deal also included the neos catbird seat in the WH....in the Office of Special Ops setup by Bush especially for them.
kudos to you. it’s hard to continue to use your head in the midst of so much unfounded emotion.
in my case, all i can plead is ignorance, inexperience and prideful stupidity—some of it willful. garbage in, garbage out.
Gulf War I was another stupid adventure. We spent the money, to dislodge Saddam from Kuwait. The rich Kuwaiti sheikhs simply went to London, lived in luxury, and came back when we made it safe for them.
What did we gain? ZERO! ZILCH! NADA!
What difference does it make if we buy oil from Kuwaiti sheikhs or Saddam? Let the middle-east fight it out among themselves. They can not drink the oil. They MUST SELL IT.
That is a LIE.
invading iraq didn’t destabilize the middle east. abandoning iraq destabilized the middle east.
The invasion was not a mistake. The "nation building" was the mistake. Iraq would have been fine had we toppled Saddam and then left well enough alone. We didn't. We had to attempt to impose Christian ideas (such as equality) onto a Muslim Culture.
Paul Bremmer is the man responsible for screwing up Iraq. His decision to disband the Iraqi army was one of the biggest pieces of idiocy of which I have ever heard. It was only exceeded in stupidity by his decision to ban all Bathe party members from government employ.
But what really screwed up the middle east is electing an unqualified simple minded petulant fool, just because the the thought of having a "black" president gave Liberal Media Democrats Orgasms.
That was the real disaster for the middle east, and indeed for the larger world beyond it.
Please don't repeat this Democrat talking point on this forum. The destabilization happened after a certain affirmative action President vowed to withdraw all troops during a very sensitive and a previously estimated generation of US support for the duly elected democratic regime .
And let us get rid of another talking point, the presence of WMD. Even the NY Times admitted their presence there by reaffirming the intelligence reports given to Bush Sr, Clinton and Bush Jr.AND embraced by almost every coalition partner and their own intelligence services
Well I got the media to fund my campaign!
Checkmate.
the weekly standard is a worthless RINO rag . . . unless it says something supportive of trump.
So, what we learn is that we had to hit Muslims as hard as Saddam and Khaddafi were.
And Kuwait is still an Islamist hellhole stuck in the seventh Century, we sent our boys to fight and die for that?
