Bernie and Trump boast about inspiring new people to head to the polls but less than a week away from the Iowa caucuses, the number of registered voters has decreased in the state over the past year.
If the major political parties had some trick up their sleeves to get more voters registered ahead of the Iowa caucus, it hasn't happened yet.
With under a week left until people vote for the first time in 2016, the number of registered Democrats and Republicans has remained fairly static in the last six months. So the big crowds at rallies for Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump--where they boast of attracting new caucus goers in droves--hasn't translated into big gains when it comes to registered support.
At least not yet.
According to statistics from the Iowa Secretary of State's office, the number of registered Republicans has decreased from January 2015 until January 2016. The same can be said for Democrats. The number can typically fluctuate as registered members of either party do not participate in a given cycle and the actual number of participants who register on the actual caucus night will not be finally tallied until months later, after auditors extensively pour over the numbers....

The biggest myth ever is Iowa matters.
40% of 200,000 or 80,000
((((snort)))
They glossed over one very important detail: you can register to vote the same day as the caucus. So, if an Iowa resident were so inclined, they could register to vote at the caucus.
LOL They have delusions, too.
Here’s how the Iowa caucus works

re: number of registered voters has decreased
That answers the question I’ve been asking. The alleged great Cruz ground game hasn’t increased the number? Not such a great ground game, I guess. But still, he has an edge with the previously registered.
And Trump, whose supporters are often not registered? They didn’t register and increase the voter rolls? What were they thinking?
A year or so ago, Republicans had a big campaign to change their registration to independent to protest raising the Iowa gasoline tax. Presumably they will show up as usual at the caucuses and change back.
Thanks for the info
Trump will get more out of bills then Ryan or Boehner gave to Obama for sure. Trump is actually a very intelligent man. He singlehandedly has the entire news organization from liberal to conservative talking about him tonight. And tomorrow night is going to be Trump again due to Drake University. He is absolutely amazing. My goals for the next President are simple........kick ISIS to heck.......build the wall......review every immigration procedure we have to get refugees to be like Japan that accepted 24 refugees out of a million and they won’t accept anymore. Also I want him to concentrate on jobs and the economy. If he does those things, he will be a great success.
Glad to help.
Problem is given things he's said, and has been saying, I'm beginning to wonder if he will even do that.
The Iowa Caucuses are an overblown circus.
A minority that is, 46%, want Trump.
At least, the ones who participated when it was still relatively tolerable to do so if you also happened to do something silly, like perceive and share the idea that Trump's "brand" of "brilliant business mind" (the thing his supporters are supposedly voting for, in essence) is BS -- he's third-rate with the real big boys at the same RE mogul game who are worth as much as four times what the Great Donald is.
Trump is the ONLY one among them who deliberately made himself a celebrity everyone recognizes. That's all. FReepers are smart, there's a reason they come here -- a majority of them at best would have Trump as their second choice, a good number put him out of the question.
Yet I would bet hard, cold cash that lurker who came to this site just to see what's up at FR, take a pulse, get the tone -- would read through a couple of threads and assume that Trump is wildly popular with the majority of conservatives and conservatives who reject him are so few that they don't even show up.
But the reality is ... the Trumpers are the minority, about 46%.
I moved three names from the non-Trump tally to the Trump tally because although these FReepers declare they prefer Cruz, the tone of their posts sure sounds the opposite. The tally is to find truth, not to advance an agenda. I want to know what real people are actually thinking, so I put them on the tally that I bet a casual reader would, as well.
Such a tally is pointless now because the golden goose slayer Donald Trump has destroyed FR, it appears to me. Romney almost finished it off in 2012, I suppose ... I don't know, but I bet everyone here was stunned when Romney lost -- no wonder they're so angry. They assumed that the people they had made this place a turn-off for, didn't exist. But they did, and they did what they said they'd do right here -- screw voting for a leftist, I don't care what party he's in.
They warned anyone paying attention going up to the election, and the same types are sounding warnings now, and it's just the primary. Trump will be in the race regardless because he'll run third party if he doesn't get the nomination.
Man. And I thought it couldn't get any worse than Romney.
Exactly. How did President Harkin and Huckabee work out?
Tell that to Dubya, Carter and Obama.
As is New Hampshire.
Stopped clock. The vast majority of the time the caucuses are wildly inaccurate.
... My requirements are even more basic. I would consider Trump worthwhile if he simply made illegal immigration illegal again.
Problem is given things he’s said, and has been saying, I’m beginning to wonder if he will even do that.
The laws are there. Cruz says deport them as they are caught. Cruz will enforce the laws we already have. Cruz was for the wall and it is well documented while DT still supported amnesty. DT and his trumpees have worked hard to obfuscate the issues.
Yes and this time around, Cruz has bused in a LOT of people, supposedly to “work” as volunteers. *cough*
Many Cruz supporters left in November and December.
An excerpt from 11/5 email to me when Trump totally lost me and I posted:
I have been put through the hit list and suddenly the language that is posted is stuff like FU, STFU (but it is spelled out completely) They will accuse you of being a SEIU plant, a wanker, a troll and many other labels that get sent along with a list of others that will go through with the attack process. When done with that and you have not succumbed to their agenda they will go after you personally> I have gone through the entire process so far.
I have never seen that poster post again. My sis who rarely posted quit looking here about a month ago. FR may as well be trump campaign headquarters.
My point is the exodus from FR began in early November if not before. Reasoned, logical arguments made by reasonable people who are treated with such disrespect - they just left.
