What happens when poll numbers are wrong about a candidate's inevitability?
It took Barack Obama until February of 2008 to overcome Clinton's "inevitability," as illustrated in a USA Today piece titled Poll: Obama now seen as most electable:
The air of inevitability that once surrounded Clinton has shifted to the Illinois senator, now seen by seven in 10 Americans as the likely Democratic nominee...
"Obama has transitioned from a movement leader to a presidential leader," says Democratic pollster Celinda Lake, saying he has "crossed the threshold" to being judged able to handle the job.
Pundits forget that the "air of inevitability that once surrounded Clinton" shifted to Obama; only after he transitioned from a "a movement leader to a presidential leader."
In 2016, Bernie Sanders is not only today's Democratic "movement leader" (as exemplified by endorsements from The Nation and MoveOn.org), he's surpassed Hillary Clinton as the "inevitable" presidential candidate....

This is getting worrisome. I don’t like any of this at all.
“You LIKE Bernie, better than Trump and you think ( sic) that he’s a nice guy? What the bleeding hell are YOU doing on FR? Go post to DU !”
You can’t possibly be as stupid as your post, can you? You are probably just having a bad day.
I am a conservative who believes in capitalism and freedom. But I observe that Bernie Sanders is reputed by everyone to be a nice guy, who has never in his political career run an attack ad. It has certainly worked for him in Vermont, and I believe that he has a good chance to become the Democratic nominee.
Too bad Bernie is a socialist, and socialism is the sure path to national poverty. As I said, I can’t vote for him, but I’d certainly rather have a beer with him than with Trump.
Trump, like some of his supporters, has the personality of a snarling attack dog. But he is a capitalist and at least pretends to be a Republican, so I would hold my nose and vote for him against Sanders.
Uh it is possible to like someone’s personality but disagree on their politics. Poster didn’t say they were voting for him.
Yeah, really great personality. /s

The commie or the crook. What a choice those over at the DUmp have this year.
I for one am glad that Hillary is blowing it... again...
If Sanders wins, I will seriously consider moving to Poland.
Yes, I know that; however, Bernie is NOT a likable person and has a lousy personality to boot.
His one saving grace is that he is pro the SECOND AMENDMENT. Outside of that, in politics or outside of it, he is a slimy toad.
You don't like Trump, yet he is extremely patriotic, helps a LOT of people and doesn't EVER advertise what he's done, IS a capitalist, is a great father and grandfather, loves our military, the vets, the police and firemen, and is against waste and fraud in the government. Actually you have NO damned idea who or what either man is!
As much as it pains me to say it I think Shirllary will be the next POTUS. She may objectively speaking be a terrible candidate, a crook, riddled with scandal and just downright unlikable but in presidential elections that no longer matters. The electorate of this country has changed forever, one stat that I think is particularly illuminating in this regard is the fact that 40% of children born today are illegitimate. At this point the dims could probably run a meat puppet against a hybrid clone of Reagan, Jefferson and Washington and the meat puppet would probably win 50 plus percent of the vote. Not only are many/most voters not even buying what conservatives are selling they can’t even comprehend it, and if they could they’d reject it anyhow.
It’s rare when an article puts Obama and movement in the same sentence.
Bernie would be a great opponent for Merkel or Hollande.
“Itâs rare when an article puts Obama and movement in the same sentence.”
I dunno. I think if obama every time after I’ve had a “movement.”
I heard that Bernie, the die hard communist, is not on every state’s ballot. Does anyone know if this is true/false?
If you loved Obama, you will really love a white Obama on steroids ... making cankles and yeb look like amateurs ... if you loved what Che did for Cuba, wait til you see what Bern does for the US ... meet the first American dictator!
Socialism, in case you missed the 20th century, is the road to mass death ... poverty is just an after effect ...
LOL
The Usurper has beaten him to that, he’ll have to settle for second
I mean dictator in the classic sense, not one who merely usurps some powers not delegated. Dictators are only deposed by force - Obama isn’t going to stay, but Bernie would ... and whoever follows him under the new one party system were the dictator get 99.9% of the vote, like NK or Cuba.
Obama is a creature. Bernie is a true believer.
