Canvassers working on the presidential campaign of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) are being instructed to sell their candidate to Donald Trump supporters.
The campaign provided them a specific script to use when encountered by people who say they back the billionaire Republican businessman.
"A lot of people feel like this country isn't working for them -- because it's not," Sanders canvassers are instructed to say, according to a copy of the script obtained by MSNBC. "[T]he solution is not to turn to someone like Trump, with a message of hate, xenophobia, and division -- it's to elect a leader with integrity like Bernie, who's proven time and again that he won't be held hostage by moneyed special interests," it continues.
"That's the right way to address the challenges we face."
The internal memo reflects recent public appeals made by Sanders to Trump supporters.
"What Trump has done with some success is taken that anger, taken those fears which are legitimate, and converted them into anger against Mexicans, anger against Muslims," Sanders said Sunday on CBS's "Face the Nation."
"I think for his working-class and middle-class supporters, I think we can make the case that if we really want to address the issues that people are concerned about ... we need policies that bring us together," he added.
Trump earlier this week called Sanders "a wacko" but maintained he would be able to poach his supporters.
"Strange, but I see wacko Bernie Sanders' allies coming over to me because I'm lowering taxes, while he will double and triple them - a disaster!" Trump tweeted.
Just saying.
That works right back, in reverse.

Bernie’s supporters consist primarily of old time socialists and twenty something unemployed liberal arts college graduates living in Mom’s basement. Try explaining to them that the free stuff isn’t free, that someone somewhere has to pay for it. They are sure it won’t be them. The blank stare you will get is astounding. These idiots aren’t going to vote for some rich white dude who believes in working for what you want or need.

Many long decades ago, I actually had a verbal duel with a card carrying Commie, whilst waiting in line to vote, in Greenwich Village. It was a VERY long line and I did get her to “see the light”. If it stuck, or not, I don’t know, but she was probably a whole lot more intelligent than Bernie and all of his supporters put together.
I’d still like a try at ‘em, but I guess I need to borrow your dogs and a snake. :-)

Yes, yes he is. That quote he made about women ought to be enough proof.
I know a few people in that age bracket and every one is conservative, or close to it. One talks just like a FReeper and likes Trump, I will have to get him to sign up. Another is really worried about Obama and gun confiscation, I can tell the people he works with are educating him.
There is hope.
And what he said about how Trump's supporters are his natural supporters to, proves, yet again, that old Bernie is just out of his tiny mind.
I wasn’t talking about all young people — just the ones mesmerized by Sanders. Their devotion is so firmly entrenched thanks to public school and liberal college education, it’s difficult if not impossible to persuade them otherwise.
You are right that there are many young people who can think for themselves. Unfortunately, that ability is usually not being taught anymore. Only good parenting can counteract the brainwashing.
