Politico noted on Sunday that Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas has solidified his lead in Iowa, according to a CBS Poll. He is favored by 40 percent of likely caucus-goers, with Donald Trump at 31 percent, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida at 12 percent, Dr. Ben Carson at six percent, and everyone else polling at two percent or less. The numbers are part of the reason that conservative pundit and radio talk show host Erik Erickson had announced that Cruz is favored for the Republican nomination, despite the media dustup over whether and when the senator from Texas did or did not favor legalization of illegal aliens.
Donald Trump is still ahead in national polls. However, that lead is essentially meaningless because the primary campaign is a series of statewide contests, starting with Iowa and continuing with New Hampshire and South Carolina. The scenario goes something like this:
Cruz wins in Iowa, deflating Trumpâs balloon considerably. Trump followers start to search for another candidate who still addresses their wrath against how both political parties are treating them. Someone else wins New Hampshire, either Rubio or New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who seems to be rising as of later. Trumpâs collapse becomes precipitous, so Cruz wins South Carolina....

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other who enjoys the fruits of others' work for your own benefit.
PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....
GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!
I don’t believe his will wither, but I remember him saying that once he wins the nomination other funding will kick in.
“Cruz has been leading in Nevada.”
Source?
This poll disagrees.

Sorry...as far as I know every informal poll at FR has shown Cruz preferred to Trump. Nice try.
“Cruz has been leading in Nevada. Things are likely to shift once Trump loses a contest or two.”
Here’s my issue with Cruz: Can he win the general? With nearly half of the population receiving government money (welfare, unemployment, social services, government jobs, pensions, and unions) there is a very thin margin for victory. That’s where the independents come into play.
Trump seems to have won them over. Can the same be said for Cruz? I wouldn’t recognize Cruz on the street, and I’ve voted GOP all my life.
I want a conservative president very much. But I want Hillary defeated more.
If Cruz takes Iowa, comes in third or fourth in New Hampshire, and then takes South Carolina then the momentum will have started to build.
ping
Cruz is the better candidate but he is not favored at this point to be the next president. This is just the media trying to manipulate the republicans.
Has anyone in the GOPe threaten to leave the GOP if Cruz is the nominee? Has anyone in the GOPe threaten to support Hillary if Cruz is the nominee? Has anyone in the GOPe threaten to run a third party candidate if Cruz is the GOP nominee?
lmao...... what does it tell you if Cruz canât win on freerepublic?
It tells me that the mods have been working overtime silencing conservative constitutionalists. Ask me how I know.
You are wrong and not very insightful.
What he did is commendable, but unfortunately in doing it he made enemies of people who will stand in his way.
He does have the way with people that Trump does in getting his way.
Merry Christmas!
“what does it tell you if Cruz canât win on freerepublic?”
FR has had two polls - Cruz won both.
A) The Iowa straw poll no longer exists and (B) The straw poll was not the Iowa Caucus.
There has never been an “Iowa Straw Poll”. It was the “Ames Straw Poll”, as the Iowa caucuses were also actually a straw (non-binding) poll with no delegates or other advantage awarded.
