Will Ted Cruz Be the Candidate to Unite the Blue-Collar and White-Collar Wings of the GOP?
New York Magazine's Daily Intelligencer ^ | December 21, 2015 | Ed Kilgore

It's been obvious for months to anyone reading polls that break down by educational levels that Donald Trump's main support base isn't among conservatives, or moderates, or old folks, or new folks, but among non-college-educated Republicans. This helps explain why he gets away with defying GOP-elite orthodoxy on issues like immigration and trade and entitlements; his white working-class fans have bonded with Republicans over cultural more than economic issues, and don't particularly agree with the country-club wing of the party on a lot of policy issues.

But what about those college-educated Republicans who do favor free trade and "entitlement reform" and maybe guest-worker status for undocumented immigrants so as to make sure the gardens get tended and the meals cooked?

At FiveThirtyEight today, the Cook Political Report's outstanding analyst David Wasserman looks at the highly educated cadre of GOP voters that flocked to Mitt Romney's upscale banner in 2012, and speculates that a consolidation of such voters — like Mitt accomplished against the divided downscale support bases of Gingrich and Santorum — might carry the day this time as well. Who might benefit from this well-heeled coalition? Perhaps Marco Rubio, who, as Wasserman notes, has the highest college-to-non-college ratio of support in the field, at least in recent polls. Or perhaps the Establishment candidates battling Rubio for pretty much the same votes in New Hampshire, like Christie, Kasich and Bush....

you keep spewing this garbage, doesn’t make it true.

A good chunk of Cruz supporters will NEVER support the liberal Donald Trump

Kelo Position Eminent Domain (liberal)
Universal Health Care Big Government RINO (liberal)
Doesn’t believe in State’s Rights (liberal)
Court Decisions Statements and Justices (liberal)
Attacks Conservatives like Scalia and Cruz using leftist Alinsky Tactics (liberal)
Says one thing on Monday, then another on Tuesday (liberal)
Invites a killer of hundreds of thousands of people to his wedding (liberal)
Praises a brutal dictator (liberal)
Won’t rip apart the Iran deal on day 1 (liberal)
Has no understanding of how the free market works (liberal)

If Trump ends up as the nominee, I will write Cruz’s name in the general and I will ensure as many people as I can get possible to either vote for Cruz or abstain from voting since a battle between Trump and Clinton is the same thing. I am most certainly not the only one with this conviction. You may be too dumb enough and emotionally inovlved to find fault with your liberal cult hero, but as for me, I’m supporting the actual conservative in the race.

Because only actual conservatives unite the base, like Reagan did. They do so because the candidate emits TRUST and they believe the candidate will do what they say they will do. Cruz has a proven record. The troll does not.

The amount of blind worshipping that has gone around among Trump supporters is embarassing. Not one of you, that’s NOT ONE has EVER contradicted any of the LONG list of liberal tendencies in Trump’s past both BEFORE and DURING the campaign. Maybe when some of you start making some cohereent arguments based on facts and logic people will listen. Until then, keep your hero worship and fantasies to yourself.

Can you name any liberals who are pro second amendment, building the wall, deporting Mexicans and deporting Mooselips?
Very simple. Trump is the one playing you guys.
Mooselips? Am I the only who sees trumpees trying to keep up trump’s insult train?

And imitating Trump - you wrote?
LOLOLOLOL
Spoken like a true trumpee. Cruz was born a conservative. Trump is pretending.
And Trump is the one who copies Cruz. Good grief. Strongest koolaid I have ever witnessed.

Oh, you know his neighbor! I guess I stand corrected, I would have guessed that he identified with Trumps long history of liberalism.

You what marks a RINO? A politician who sees the light just in time for an election and gets lots of media coverage as the savior of Conservatism.

Sound like anyone you know?

I will say, several of my friends, who are not very political love Trump. But when I ask them about Cruz, they comment taht he’s “weird” and “strange” looking. That’s that. Small sample.

But I don’t think Cruz picks up the Trump voters as easy as the experts think. Trump is a unique animal.

I’m a coffee drinker myself. You are the one buying into everything Cruz is selling, overlooking or making excuses for everything he’s done that is out of line, ignoring his father and his wife, pretending you don’t see the millions of dollars being funneled his way.

You are so right — trumpees are high on the koolaid.
Excellent concise response.

B.S. I don’t believe it just because you say it isn’t so.

One should note that in politics people say things as facts that are just conjecture.

This and ALL articles should be taken with a grain of salt, but it’s just one man’s theory (I hope it’s correct), but we’ll see.

Or get left out in the cold, if Trump and Cruz combine delegates.

As a Cruz supporter and contributor....jus stop if you are one as well. I would think that supporters would emulate the one they hold in high regard. This belittling attitude towards others hurts Cruz and doesn’t help him.

There is no more truly conservative candidate than Cruz in this cycle, period. As a life long constitutional conservative, with no apologies, who loves RR, Cruz is more Reagan than Reagan. The Cruz bashing is getting old, there is no way, in a sane mind at least, that Trump is more conservative, or strictly constitutional, than Cruz. No man is perfect, and I will support Trump if he wins, but Cruz is the first (imperfect) man that I’ve been excited to support in a long time.

They would have said the same thing about Reagan. Your job is to educate them, although they sound pretty shallow.

Cruz is FAR right of Reagan. Although if he were a true constitutional conservative he wouldn’t be running due to his eligibility.

So your answer is no and relying on name calling. Pretty typical although I do notice your selective outrage at my Mooselip joke. How PC of you. Maybe someone else is actually the lib.

Merry Christmas

Cruz has chapter and verse and statutory backing that he has given for being a natural born citizen of the United States.

Are you guessing that he believes himself to be ineligible but ignores that?

Are you guessing that he hasn’t studied whether or not he’s eligible under the Constitution and statutory law?

What are you saying?

Spit it out.

He runs as eligible because he knows he is.

That is also the official stand of Free Republic.

Trump already did.

The only ones squawking are the "pink collar" and "rainbow collar" and the actual Soviet and Democrat (but I repeat myself) moles.
