FRC's Tony Perkins, 50 Conservative Activists Reportedly Plan to Endorse Ted Cruz
CP Politics ^ | December 16, 2015 | Samuel Smith

Family Research Council president Tony Perkins and dozens of other prominent conservatives are expected to endorse Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, for president, a move that aims to coalesce conservative support around one candidate, a National Review article claimed Tuesday.

The article states that a coalition of as many as 50 influential conservative activists gathered on Dec. 7 at the Sheraton Hotel in Tysons Corner, Virginia for a meeting that was spearheaded by Perkins for the purpose of hashing out which candidate the conservative activists will unite their support behind.

After a long day of discussion and debate, it took five different votes for the group to come to the 75 percent supermajority needed to get the coalition's members to back one candidate. The report states that through the first four sets of ballots, the votes were split between Cruz and Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla.

Although the article states that Perkins and other senior members of the group were likely "pushing hard" for the coalition to back Cruz, it took until the late hours of the night for the coalition to get 75 percent of the vote in favor of Cruz when five other members finally decided to switch their vote to Cruz on the fifth ballot....

Cruz has been hedging on his true leaning for amnesty. Unfortunately, I was a Cruz supporter but he lost me on a number of issues, especially trade and the bill that allowed the sham of a deal with Iran. Plus, his wife is far too close to the cheap labor crowd. Still, with all that, he has more strengths and good points than all the rest of the pack, hence he is number 2 behind Trump. Cruz needs to learn a lot of things yet before he can becom a really effective leader....I call it “seasoning.” Ther is only one real proven leader in the race, Donald Trump, even with all his warts.

We are discussing Trump and Cruz. Rubio, Paul, Lindsay, and all the rest are out of it. The only danger is Rubio who is the Establishment replacement for Bush. While Cruz has been making noise, Trump has been accomplishing things. I think Cruz still as some things to learn.

Cruz has also supported some not-so-conservative issues which are somehow conveniently forgotten by Cruz supporters. He is not ready for the presidency.

Insignificant bickering point for those incapable of seeing the real issues. Trump is a leader. He has opened up the conversation everyone else has been dodging: America getting the short end of the deal over and over no matter who controls the House and Senate. Done, through and finished with the usual lifetime political figures. America needs some sharp business sense to save the economy and some common sense to cut through the red tape bureaucracies. Can’t wait to see which ones Trump cuts first.

He has worked hard to get Conservative legislation passed. Unfortunately, there are not more Conservatives to help him accomplish this in the style that our Founders instituted. He cannot do it alone, but his convictions and his ceaseless dedication to liberty speak for themselves. He has attempted to take action to stop poisonous progressive policies from destroying our nation.

It’s a darn sight more than Trump has ever done to further the cause of Conservatism. Especially since he hasn’t been a “conservative” until recently. He has been rubbing shoulders with the most unctuous people of modern times (e.g. the Clintons) for years prior to this miraculous change of his beliefs and, somehow, he is a trustworthy champion of right-wing causes. Trump is a candidate for those with the memory of goldfish and for those who are easily swayed by impassioned statements of a glittery, two-faced swindler. He’s all about appealing to the baser passions of the gullible among us. He just needs to yell a bit, wave his money around, and flash that greasy smile of his and the masses swoon. So is the power and the allure of the mega-rich. “He’s rich! He can do anything!” It’s the pathetic belief of the weak-minded.

Yeah Rubio, the establishment shill. So how valid is the final vote for Cruz?????????????????????????? And no mention of Trump, which in my opinion is just as well.

Have at it if you are so jealous of the rich that it clouds your perception. I’d love to see America rich again instead of being driven into poverty by politicians. They are really all the same. Until we get rid of a lot of lifetime politicians, we’ll not get America back. It’s what destroyed Europe and what has destroyed the America I grew up in and loved.

People in this country used to be proud and happy when someone “made it” because the Class System didn’t really exist. The American Dream offered a way to riches through hard work and ingenuity and talent. I am sick to death of people always screaming about how rich Trump is as if it is a thing to be hated. You treat it as a curse while I treat Trumps wealth as proof of his talents. Obviously you don’t know much about the real world. You also don’t know much about the business world of construction and development. When you’ve walked a mile in Trump’s shoes, then maybe you’ll take the blinders off.

Until you purists learn to be a bit pragmatic we’re going to continue to lose.

Cruz is right 90% of the time and that’s better than a Republican who supported the Clintons, gave money to them, supported a wealth tax, supported single payer and last didn’t support Kim Davis or Pamela Gellar.

Cruz Conservative enough to be ready day one of being president

This type of cultural perfidy, always precedes a financial collapse. Whether, it is a family, group or Nation.

Lots more people around this time. Some equipped, and not capable. Most not equipped, and entirely incapable. Some will sort it out, kinda. The last quotient is wild card pragmatists. Kinda like everyday life, now.

Mr. Donald Trump is well prepared for the US Presidency.

May the grace of God, be with us.

Molly - you might consider toning down your pitch for Trump - Some might think you joined just this year as a shill - maybe a paid one?

If not a shill - surely edging on the shrill

It seems the more that truth is being made apparent, the more we see articles about Trump’s awesomeness on FR.

Good deal. It is Cruz #1 and Trump #2 for me.

Same with many of us - even the "Trump-bots"

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other FReeloader

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

Donate to Cruz

Donate to FR
