Donald Trump Dares Ted Cruz To Criticize Him In Public
TPM ^ | 12/11/15 | Caithlin MacNeil

Posted on 12/11/2015 5:40:01 AM PST by VinL

One day after a report that Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) questioned Donald Trump's "judgement" in a private event, Trump called out Cruz for criticizing him behind close doors but refraining from negative comments in public.

Looks like @tedcruz is getting ready to attack. I am leading by so much he must. I hope so, he will fall like all others. Will be easy!

.@tedcruz should not make statements behind closed doors to his bosses, he should bring them out into the open - more fun that way!

Cruz has so far refrained from bashing Trump in public. After Trump announced his proposal to ban Muslims from coming to the United States, Cruz disagreed but stopped short of condemning Trump's remarks.

But the Texas senator spoke about Trump and Ben Carson during a Manhattan fundraiser on Wednesday, according to the New York Times.

"Who am I comfortable having their finger on the button? Now that’s a question of strength, but it’s also a question of judgment. And I think that is a question that is a challenging question for both of them," Cruz said of Trump and Carson.

Cruz has started gaining on Trump in the key primary state of Iowa, which may be making Trump uneasy. The real estate mogul has a habit of attacking his Republican rivals when they rise in the polls, as both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal noted this week. Trump may have released his proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country in an attempt to boost his support with evangelical voters in Iowa.

You can be in denial, but you are just as liberal as any Manhattan occupier.

Why do you think you are conservative?

Cruz or anybody has no obligation to give out information about what they said at a private meeting.

True. Then Cruz should have said just that and nothing more, rather than implying that the report was a lie or a distortion.

I am free to ask and they are free to give, just as Cruz is free to ask and they are free to give.

Cruz (or any candidate) is free to ask, free to receive and receive to act or not act upon the donation.

There are good monied interests and their are bad monied interests.

And we are free to vote on candidates who would do the right thing and not vote for candidates who would do the wrong thing.

And that's how it should be.

Yeah I know that liberty is a messy thing.

I think so, too. I also think that Cruz’s numbers in Iowa means that Trump and Cruz will eventually lock horns.

When Carson moved up in Iowa, Trump went after him. I think that was more because the media and the GOP-E were using Carson to tear down Trump.

The media and GOP-E don’t want Cruz any more than they want Trump.

In my mind the real danger for both of them right now is that new rule that they have to win something like 8 states at 50% + 1 to win the nomination by delegate count....something like that. All of those straphanger candidates are there to prevent that.

The media is trying to get a fight going between these two.
We shouldn’t fall for it; nor should Trump or Cruz.

But the implication of legally expediting the good ones back is the support for a legalization, touchback, over-and-back, amnesty passed by Ryan and McConnell and signed off by a president Trump.

Neither of us knows how it would work. It is not the Pence touchback plan.

What we do know is that Trump has held steadfastly that he will deport them all. No other candidate is saying that.

Look up Club for (Mexico’s) Growth and FreedomWorks/Koch Bros. Lot’s of info, right here on FR, about how these groups refused to try to stop 0bama’s amnesty push. That’s the point where many FReepers lost all respect for these two groups. Why any candidate would want to side with these amnesty/Open Borders pushers, is beyond anything

That's bad pols taking bad money and then acting badly.

I mentioned in an earlier post (#252) that I didn’t think anything Cruz said was particularly bad.

Candidates have always sought to make distinctions between themselves and the others. It’s just part of the election game.

Cruz is not my first choice, but I can accept him. My problem with Cruz is that he is failing to connect with the average voter. And he will have minimum crossover appeal. The Dems outnumber Reps. We must be able to attract some of their voters. Romney won the Independent vote and still lost despite getting 1 million more votes than McCain. Obama got 3.5 million less votes in 2012 than in 2008 and still won by 5 million votes.

If good judgement is a challenge for The Donald, then maybe he should simply demonstrate good judgement instead of trying to spin a mouse fart into a hurricane.

Perhaps it is the Pence or the KBH touchback plan. Trump needs to explain further.

What we do know is that Trump has held steadfastly that he will deport them all. No other candidate is saying that.

Trump around July 24th, 2015 was for a legalization amnesty without deportations for the "outstanding ones".

Cruz connects well with the moral majority vote that gave REagan a landslide and the Christian Coalition Vote that helped win it for GW Bush.

I think they’re hoping that the republicans will vote republican. Many of them are so liberal any more that they might just support Hillary.

It’s long been my opinion that it would be best for lib leaning republicans to just cross on over to the other side. I’d rather begin a campaign knowing who is actually on my side.

“If good judgement is a challenge for The Donald ...”

That’s the big question. If it is, then we should elect Cruz. So Trump learns of the claim, he’s supposed to roll over? He had no choice but to respond.

Whoever set this up did a bang-up job and deserves a lot of Soros money.
