At the beginning of this year â back when the notion that Donald Trump might dominate the presidential race was a dystopian scenario as unimaginably remote as The Man in the High Castle â the most horrifying thing Republican insiders could imagine was a Ted Cruz nomination. In much the same way that Trump has set the terms of the presidential debate in ways that discomfited the partyâs leadership and fired up the base, Cruz did the same in Washington. The intense loathing Cruz inspired among every professional Republican politician not named Ted Cruz made his nomination difficult to fathom. But the rise of Trump has changed many things, and one of them may be to grant Republican insiders a new perspective on just what unacceptable means.
The centrality of Trump has framed the Republican campaign as a binary question of Trump against whichever contender emerges as the non-Trump. Instead, the race may well be condensing into a three-way contest between Trump, Marco Rubio, and Cruz. Ben Carson, who has previously absorbed a large share of the Evangelical vote, has swiftly declined, allowing Cruz to rise into the top tier. One recent poll had him leading in Iowa, though others have shown Trump still ahead...

I still think Trump is a loose cannon and could be really dangerous as regards national security. I will vote for him if he wins the nomination, but only if he has the stabilizing force of a Cruz VP.
Trump has no record in public policy making, but he has done an about face on many issues as far as his past positions. People are supporting him on blind faith. I hope it is not misplaced.
Wishful thinking. I’ve seen photos of the numbers who come to hear Cruz, and the numbers who come to hear Trump.
Case closed.
If you read the website “On the Issues” or read some of his books like “Time to Get Tough”, you will see his positions have remained the same for decades, other than some like abortion, which have changed over time. He is not a loose cannon; he says what he says and how with control. People just aren’t used to a non-shit sandwich eating R politician.
Do you have anything of substance upon which to base your opinion? Everything I’ve read about people who work for him is that they are intensely loyal to him, and he to them.
I’ve actually read 7 of Trump’s books. Based on his public statements, his positions on immigration have changes, as well. A recently as 2012 he criticized Mitt Romney for his mean tone for suggesting self deportation. Now he’s all head ‘em and move ‘em out.
Everyone is entitled to their opinions. I completely disagree with yours, regarding Trump.
I happen to be of the opinion that my Senator Cruz is weak on experience. As a junior Senator running for President (we’ve already been there, done that) I’d like to see him get a few more years of sponsoring legislation that might actually get passed, under a Trump administration. Then maybe move on to AG or SCOTUS.
I also don’t want ANOTHER career politician/government employee.....who has NEVER had to cover (be personally responsible for) a payroll, or any other business expertise. Trump employs thousands, worldwide, has had to negotiate multimillion/billion $$ contracts here and internationally.
I trust Trump’s business expertise...and the fact that he’s put everything he’s worked his life for...on the table, at risk, to stop the destruction of this nation.
I’m tired of ‘policy makers’ deciding what’s best for me and my hard earned income.
I guess in your book, those who supported Reagan (who had managerial and solid business experience, btw) did so in blind faith.
Trusting a junior Senator...who’s only experience is being a politician or a government employee, and who has ‘done an about face on past positions’, is putting blind faith to the ultimate test.
California dreaming. :-)
From what I gather, Trump has been somewhat interested in politics for decades, but focused in his business ventures. In the last few years he’s focused a lot more on politics which means national problems and how they are (not) being solved by politicians. I don’t fault him for learning and deepening his understanding.
What I can’t stand is the lying weasels in deecee, the good guys aren’t enough in number to overturn the scum.
Trusting a junior Senator...whoâs only experience is being a politician or a government employee, and who has âdone an about face on past positionsâ
Has Cruz had a real job other than being elected to something? And has he done an about face on positions? I really don’t trust him - more and more and more.
LOL....that’s cuter than the Twister board.
FR Jewish Mafia? WTH are you talking about?
That's exactly what I mean... they are always there, watching, waiting, ready to start crying foul that someone is some anti-semite on a moment's notice. That is the "FR Jewish Mafia" I am talking about.
Some of my most favorite Freepers are Jewish. I am not the anti-semite you are looking for... I just acknowledge that there is a hostile network of Hebrews here always ready to strike en masse... Kinda like the TrumpenTruppen always show up in Ted Cruz threads.
First, you gave us “FR Jewish Mafia”
Next, it was “some of my best friends are Jews”, apparently failing to notice the irony
Then, you gave us “hostile network of Hebrews”
And I’m supposed to be convinced you’re not an anti-Semite? What’s next? “Aggressive FR Kikes”? “Neocon Hook nose Freepers”?
I don’t need to call you an anti-semite. You self identified as one quite nicely.
You make my case perfectly and have the demeanor of a 19 year old teenage girl. Grow up.
Like most filthy anti-Semites, you’re not very bright.
They ain't makin' Jews like Jesus anymore.
