How Donald Trump Has Opened the Door for Ted Cruz to Win
New York Magazine's Daily Intelligencer ^ | December 10, 2015 | Jonathan Chait

Posted on 12/10/2015 11:22:32 AM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

At the beginning of this year — back when the notion that Donald Trump might dominate the presidential race was a dystopian scenario as unimaginably remote as The Man in the High Castle — the most horrifying thing Republican insiders could imagine was a Ted Cruz nomination. In much the same way that Trump has set the terms of the presidential debate in ways that discomfited the party’s leadership and fired up the base, Cruz did the same in Washington. The intense loathing Cruz inspired among every professional Republican politician not named Ted Cruz made his nomination difficult to fathom. But the rise of Trump has changed many things, and one of them may be to grant Republican insiders a new perspective on just what unacceptable means.

The centrality of Trump has framed the Republican campaign as a binary question of Trump against whichever contender emerges as the non-Trump. Instead, the race may well be condensing into a three-way contest between Trump, Marco Rubio, and Cruz. Ben Carson, who has previously absorbed a large share of the Evangelical vote, has swiftly declined, allowing Cruz to rise into the top tier. One recent poll had him leading in Iowa, though others have shown Trump still ahead...

Yup........

I usually find that it’s best to take a short vacation.

I don’t think this election cycle will be any different.

Trump is great, if you can believe what he is saying. His track record gives me pause.

Cruz, on the other hand, has been consistent since day one.

Trump can’t make “solid decisions” like running a brilliant campaign?

“...Trump and Cruz have shown a united front against the establishment, against the media. That front earns them both respect for standing together against the cabal....”

And, in that, they have shown considerable wisdom. Some of their supporters in both camps have not been as wise.

Where has Marco Rubio been lately? Has he suspended his campaign?
I only ask because I haven’t heard hide nor hair of him since the last debate.

For real? What planet have you been on? I’m a Trump/Cruz guy but Rubio is now in the Top Three Tier with Cruz & Trump. He’s been on Cable News interviews..... Talk Radio shows...... just picked up a HUGE billionaire donor...... running ads like crazy......

Hope this answers your question.

I look at it this way- The truth is always a positive, no matter how uncomfortable it makes you or how negative it may seem.

This is just another article to get Trump and Cruz to do battle against each other....

How about if we let the voters decide who the next POTUS is going to be?

This is after all, OUR ELECTION```The Legal American Voters```so WE will decide who WE want as POTUS...

Take your typewriters and your pens and papers and go write about something else, WE voters are deciding what WE want to do...bye bye````

I just haven’t seen him. I’m not a big watcher of news on the TV but I do check in with this site several times a day. I’m always hearing about Trump or Cruz rallies but hardly ever anything involving Rubio.

Early on I theorized Trump was blazing the way for Cruz, legitimizing “outlandish” notions which Cruz could then address/own, which would have destroyed Cruz had he said them first. Trump would blaze the trail, take the heat, then get out of the way. Were that the case, Trump’s success is proving so good that he has no reason to stop now.

Yah! Right! His judgment is world class. Not only is he dominating in the US but he is now kicking the world media’s ass.

He truly is. Every time he drops one of his bombs, he has been found to be right every time a few days or weeks later and it is never mentioned by the MSM...they just move on. He is negotiating his way to the nomination. He throws out an “outrageous” position that is quickly misinterpreted by the MSM, then over the next few days they realize what his position truly is and he is proven right. He has totally boxed all the other Repub candidates into a corner, including Cruz to some degree, because of how they came out against his position, or in Cruz’s case, said it was not “his” policy, so as the info comes out of how Trump is right and the shooters in San Bernardino were already radicalized and planned this for 2 years, and the FBI saying we can’t possibly vett those coming in to the country adequately, Trump is right. God forbid there is another attack before the election, all the Republican candidates will look foolish and as if they don’t care about security for the country. Brilliant move.

I will vote for Cruz in the primary...

If he doesn’t drop out early. I was all set to vote for the late Fred T in that year’s primary, but he quit before getting to my state.

The nominee, Cruz, Trump, or Jo-Jo the Dog-Faced Boy, gets my vote in November.

The governmental system we have will prevent any emotional decision on Trump’s behalf to be muted and attenuated...short of a Martin Sheen “Dead Zone” event.

That’s because this is a “purist” Conservative website where no one dare express support for Rubio. It’s not worth the verbal abuse.

Nice try but Trump will roll all over you. He has the people and I understand the people still run America after they overthrow the communists who control it now.
