Face It: Ted Cruz Won The Republican Debate
The Huffington Post Huffpost Politics ^ | October 30, 2015 | Zach Carter

Cruz trounced the outsider candidates, while Rubio trampled some guy polling in the single digits.

So, that happened. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) came into the third GOP presidential debate with little to lose and everything to gain. He got more out of the night than anyone else on stage.

Listen to The Huffington Post's analysis of the debate in the latest episode of the "So, That Happened" podcast above. The fun starts right off the top.

Long, long ago, in the pre-Trump political era, Cruz built his brand as the politician most willing to say and do outlandish things to whip up support from the Republican base. He almost single-handedly shut down the federal government over Obamacare in 2013, securing zero conservative policy goals while getting a lot of press clips about reading Green Eggs and Ham. But everybody who dug this stuff went to Donald Trump when the real estate billionaire started ripping on immigrants as rapists and calling his fellow Republicans soft.

While Cruz waited for Trump to flame out, conspiracy theorist and dietary supplement pitchman Ben Carson surged in the polls as an alternative for Republicans fed up with politicians in Washington. On debate night, Cruz outshone them both without targeting either....

Debate? The goal is to win the nomination.

Of course it is, but excelling in the debate can help along the way.

I continue to be ^amazed^ at the media.

Trump is running very few adverts explaining his brand because the media keeps giving him FREE AIR TIME. This is a brilliant strategy, in my opinion.

Correspondingly, the media can’t help themselves because Trump is running in front and they MUST report.

Media! Y’all have been (and are being) played by A New York billionaire, real estate mogul and capitalist; all of the things you hate.

Haters gotta hate.

Ted Cruz is without question the finest conservative mind in American politics today. He has a grasp of the facts and the ability to express them with logical conviction that so far surpasses the so-called “master orator” Barack Obama and the so-called “master politician” Bill Clinton that it isn’t funny.

THIS.

Agree - 100% We are very fortunate to have Ted Cruz.

while getting a lot of press clips about reading Green Eggs and Ham.

I've heard this from Republican friends, virtually word for word. I try to stay calm, but it really pisses me off.

I watched about 8 hours of his filibuster and he was completely coherent throughout --a truly astounding oratorical feat.

During his speech he mentioned how he read "Green Eggs and Ham" to his daughter, and read a portion of it. The Left made it out like he was using the old tactic of reading from the phone book.

It's bad enough that liberals lie, but worse when OUR SIDE repeats the lies.

When Ted Cruz specifically denounced the tone of the questioning by the moderators in the CNBC debate, it completely flustered the moderators and they never recovered from that experience. And it was a devastating attack, because Cruz showed the Left-leaning bias of the mainstream media out in the open.

In short, the American public will start to view the likes of the New York Times, CNN, NBC News, and so on with increasing skepticism. And that becomes bad news for Hillary Clinton, because she can't hide behind a discredited MSM....

How could anyone think Trump won this debate? Maybe the others but Cruz delivered the highlight reel knockout this time. Definitely more dramatically than Trump in the first two. Trump certainly did leave Kasich “face down in the dirt” as someone said, which was hilarious.

He gave a 1 1/2 hour answer on that question last night. The answer to that question, which he had answered numerous times before, was not nearly as important or effective as his brilliant retort.

The question wasn’t about the debt limit, it was about how since the two year budget was passed in Congress, Cruz was not the kind of leader the people wanted. Pay attention.

Cruz was not the kind of leader the people wanted.

I know that. To be a leader you need to motivate and inspire those who you work with. For some reason, Cruz cannot get his fellow Senators to back him up at all. As President, how on Earth will he get his policies passed? He needs to read, “How to make friends and influence people”. He cannot be President by himself. He might get some Executive Orders done but will he be able to sign a single bill that he wants?

You ever hear of Ronald Reagan? He had a lot of policies that he wanted to pass that his Republican Congress was too wimpy to present or follow through on. His charisma and communicating with the American people solved all that, and the political hacks had to follow.

I truly believe Cruz has this same kind of quality that real people (not phoney baloney politicians) understand. Furthermore, you lead by the front, not by following behind (Zero’s way).
