Of course, there are many reasons to have more guns, as spares, for special purposes, for sentimental reasons.

I don’t know much about the mother, really. The one thing I think where she made a grave mistake is in not having somewhere to store the weapons that didn’t allow unfettered access, especially if she may have been concerned about how stable he may or may not have been.
She shouldn’t be condemned for having 13 guns for any reason she saw fit - whether out of fear of government gun grabbing, or just a plain love of guns. We all have our own reasons, and there is nothing in the Second Amendment about ‘reason’ one way or the other.
Mom has large number of weapons, as is her right. But with rights come responsibilities. The Second Amendment is no different. Anyone exercising the right to “keep and bear arms” has a responsibility to secure those arms.
Mom, a licensed LPN (not a Nurse Practitioner) according to the Oregon registry does not take precautions to secure her weapons despite the history of emotional instability of her son.
These murders were caused by a failure of the family, not society.
I am 61. There is no way I could get into my 87 year old father-in-law’s gun safe absent a few sticks of dynamite. (He can't either). Either Mom had no safe or she kept it unlocked or shared combination with son.

It is harder and harder for them to rewrite history because of the Internet, patriot blogs, Talk Radio, iphones, etc., We used to have to wait until 6:00 for Cronkite to tell us his slanted version of the twisted truth. No more. We are the news cycle. Possibly some of these shootings are being staged. Create the PROBLEM, REACTION, SOLUTION!
Windows of opportunity are slipping away and it appears some are working faster and faster. They know their time is short. Just my humble opinion.

Again, mother is not a Nurse Practitioner as stated in the article. Lazy or trying to make her into something she is not?
It is almost as if they want her to be more than a black LPN. There is nothing wrong with being an LPN, but constantly stating she is a NP assigns an educational level she does not have. I am an RN. I do not have the educational level of a NP and would not pretend otherwise.
( BTW-a higher level of education does not always make for a better nurse. Many times it is about real world clinical experience and floor smarts. Some of my best teachers in the clinical setting have been experienced LPNs. Patients get the best care when staff works as a team. Neither here nor there but I wanted to throw that in. )
