Michael Reagan: My Father Would Be Appalled at Trump
By Greg Richter | 10 Sep 2015
GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has compared himself to Ronald Reagan, but the Republican icon would be "appalled" at the way Trump acts, Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV.
Trump's personal attacks on fellow candidates, including the recent Rolling Stone report of him talking about Carly Fiorina's appearance, go too far, said Reagan, a radio talk show host and son of the former president.
Reagan said he hopes Trump's actions hurt him not only with women voters, but with all voters.
"What he's done is really appalling," he said. "My father would be appalled. On behalf of my father and the Reagan family to see someone like this who just personally attacks people time and time and time again is absolutely appalling to me and I hope all the voters start to see through Donald Trump and the kind of candidate that he his and the kind of president he may end up being."
Trump should instead be focusing on what he would do as president, Reagan said.
"It's nice to say, 'I'm going to make America great again,' but how are you going to do that? What laws are you going to pass? What bills are you going to pass? How are you going to work with Congress? What are you going to do?" Reagan said.
Trump's followers are equally troubling, Reagan said. He recently tweeted that one can be either a Reagan Republican or a Trump Republican, but not both.
There are four governors in the race who have made their state's great again, as Trump says he wants to do with America, Reagan said, and he is troubled they aren't doing better in the polls.

I don’t know. I’m not familiar with how power and/or influence is attained in these types of organizations.
He probably was politically correct and politically astute enough where he could forge an effective coalition. The Republican Party was drifting from it’s stated conservative principles even then, so limiting a conservative renaissance was likely music to the ears of the Neocon.
From what I’ve known of KR, he’s quite effective at obtaining power and using it to his advantage, but as to at what stage in his career he got that way, there’s no telling.
It often happens that people in various organizations gain (sometimes unofficial) power and are able to influence key people, leaving others to just shake their head in disbelief.
Michael’s tendency to try to speak for his father grows tiresome. RWR’s words still speak for themselves.
I haven’t followed Michael lately. Neither do I plan to vote for Trump. I just think Michael should speak for himself. One thing I do like about Trump is his use of the Reagan slogan “Make America Great Again.” Remembering Reagan is a good thing. If Michael disagrees with Trump he should say so in his own name and with substance. Trying to speak for his father is a cheap shot without substance.
“Different times call for different things. Trump isnt a man for all times, but I think hes the right man for right now.”
Then by all means support and vote for this narcissistic, bloviating, ego-driven, classless, crude, inconsistent, Lib supporting clown because he is not politically correct.
Good question
I will, Mister!
How about Walker, the very successful governor of Wisconsin, now a right to work state....the fact that Trump and Carson are taking pollster votes from him is irrelevant....he'll do just fine!
Well, she wasn't his blood sister. Her claim to fame was cavorting nekkid for a Playboy spread.
This is more meaningful coming from him, rather than Ron, Jr.
I think some, but not most, of this is valid but different times, different men. Ronald Reagan was not perfect though and the amnesty he granted illegal aliens then has led into the massive problems we have now. Further, had Reagan had a better, or even a real, succession, we could have avoided some of the low points of the last decades. If Trump wins the presidency, as looks probable now, I hope he is able to establish a better continuity. And I would expect the man behind The Apprentice to be good at training up leaders, going forward.
Wasn't Jeb Bush governor somewhere? How about George Pataki (he is actually running for President, even if no one has noticed).
Reagan was similar but not the same as Goldwater. Trump is a skilled bomb thrower.
I think you are 100% correct.
Haven't heard any reactions to Walker's speech yesterday at Eureka College (Ronald Reagan's alma mater).
Advanced rectal defilade.
Cruz would be a natural.
I agree.
agree.. I can’t stand Trump. He’s a freaking joke. Will I vote for him against any dem? Hell yes.
I’m hoping it’s Cruz.
That is f-ing gay.
MR should be attacking the GOPe and how they are destroying the party. Trump is a result of the Conservative disgust with them.
I doubt Pres Reagan would be dismayed with Trump. He would be more dismayed with the incompetence of the vichy Repubs.
Trump is a carnival barker who will never be president. It stuns me that so many on FR back this guy.
