Michael Reagan: My Father Would Be Appalled at Trump
By Greg Richter | 10 Sep 2015
GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has compared himself to Ronald Reagan, but the Republican icon would be "appalled" at the way Trump acts, Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV.
Trump's personal attacks on fellow candidates, including the recent Rolling Stone report of him talking about Carly Fiorina's appearance, go too far, said Reagan, a radio talk show host and son of the former president.
Reagan said he hopes Trump's actions hurt him not only with women voters, but with all voters.
"What he's done is really appalling," he said. "My father would be appalled. On behalf of my father and the Reagan family to see someone like this who just personally attacks people time and time and time again is absolutely appalling to me and I hope all the voters start to see through Donald Trump and the kind of candidate that he his and the kind of president he may end up being."
Trump should instead be focusing on what he would do as president, Reagan said.
"It's nice to say, 'I'm going to make America great again,' but how are you going to do that? What laws are you going to pass? What bills are you going to pass? How are you going to work with Congress? What are you going to do?" Reagan said.
Trump's followers are equally troubling, Reagan said. He recently tweeted that one can be either a Reagan Republican or a Trump Republican, but not both.
There are four governors in the race who have made their state's great again, as Trump says he wants to do with America, Reagan said, and he is troubled they aren't doing better in the polls.

Agreed. The one way that Reagan let the country down was by not enforcing our immigration laws. Given the huge problems we now face, I have to believe that Reagan would agree with Trump’s position now.
That pic of Ron is very disturbing!
Ronald Reagan was around in a much different time.
We do know that Rove insisted on GHWB to be Reagan’s Veep for one reason only: to backstop the Reagan revolution!
The GOPe was only beginning to flex their anti-American muscles.
Sorry Michael, your Dad would approve of Trump, especially given the circumstances of today. In fact I bet he would leave the Party and register Independent.
Exactly! Trump is not trying to be Reagan. I think his son is seeking attention. When are we going to hear from the other brother???
In 1980 Rove was a 30 yr old advisor to a failed presidential primary campaign. Where did he get the political horsepower to dictate who Reagan’s VP would be?
“Different times call for different things. Trump isnt a man for all times, but I think hes the right man for right now.”
You bring up a great point here.
By way of example, you may recall why Mayor Dinkins ran NYC into the ground; he was the Stephanie Rawlings of New York. The City demanded, even begged, for a law and order man. That man ended up being Rudy Guillani.
If it wasn’t for Dinkins, I don’t believe Rudy would have been elected Mayor of a liberal New York City.
Michael, you were gifted with a wonderful Dad. You are not him. He is not here to speak for himself, so give it a rest. Speak for yourself.
Michael I think your father would be appalled at what the Republican leadership has become. We need some big time change.
Erm, it’s a parody of “Risky Business”, remember this was the 80s. Don’t take it too much more seriously than that :)
Was he or was he not a ballet dancer?
Why do you keep posting pics of Reagan’s other son?
The 80s look positively pristine and innocent compared to today.
The guy who wrote this article wasn’t. The idea of Michael Reagan in tights is even more disturbing.
Michael Reagan made this statement intentionally, right before this next Debate being held, funny the timing here, at the Reagan Library at Simi Valley. Slamming Trump to disassociate himself and his family from the “taint” of Donald Trump. What a rotten thing to do Michael. Hope Trump beats the pants off of all the others.
Yes, I know the difference. That’s why I specifically posted “Ron” - we all remember his stuff. And his sister’s.
And yes, I know it’s Michael on the article, thanks anyways.
He's absolutely right.
However, those were different times.
Those were times that one party was pro-America, and the other party was teetering on the brink of anti-Americanism.
Now, both parties are firmly anti-American, and do all they can to destroy us.
If Reagan was faced with THIS time, HE might be as blunt as Trump.
No he would not. Ronald would have liked Trump a lot. Michael has sold his soul to the GOPe.
He says this while the pres and his GOP enablers take time out of tax funding tearing babies up to sell for parts in order to purchase a nuke for Iran while the house is on their third year of trying to get to the bottom of Benghazi but can’t get the then s of state to talk as she is too busy covering up what she did with ALL of the state secrets she had
People had better get a clue
We are getting behind one candidate and it will not be Jeb nor Carson not bobby kundalini nor Linsey graham, not Rubio and it will not be the wonderful but charisma challenged Cruz
So if michael Reagan can find someone with all of the leadership skills of trump without the uncouth mess no one is stopping him any more than Cruz is not stopping trump - because he’s in it to fix this country who doesn’t have time away from watching this gang purchasing nukes for our enemies to do so much as hang an American flag from the garage pole on sept 11
We need leadership and now. We’re done with these surrender monkeys (thx Ann coulter)
Sounds like Michael Reagan needs some attention. Trump only said he compared himself to Reagan in that he used to be a Democrat. What part of this didn’t Michael hear? I guess he also didn’t hear that Trump was attacked first, did he? These people make me sick. He has no clue what his father would feel - in fact, Ronald Reagan met with DT on occasion. There is a picture with him and he has a bust of him in his office. So, take that in your panty wad Michael and shove it.
