Michael Reagan: My Father Would Be Appalled at Trump

By Greg Richter | 10 Sep 2015

GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has compared himself to Ronald Reagan, but the Republican icon would be "appalled" at the way Trump acts, Michael Reagan told Newsmax TV.

Trump's personal attacks on fellow candidates, including the recent Rolling Stone report of him talking about Carly Fiorina's appearance, go too far, said Reagan, a radio talk show host and son of the former president.

Reagan said he hopes Trump's actions hurt him not only with women voters, but with all voters.

"What he's done is really appalling," he said. "My father would be appalled. … On behalf of my father and the Reagan family to see someone like this who just personally attacks people time and time and time again is absolutely appalling to me and I hope all the voters start to see through Donald Trump and the kind of candidate that he his and the kind of president he may end up being."

Trump should instead be focusing on what he would do as president, Reagan said.

"It's nice to say, 'I'm going to make America great again,' but how are you going to do that? What laws are you going to pass? What bills are you going to pass? How are you going to work with Congress? What are you going to do?" Reagan said.

Trump's followers are equally troubling, Reagan said. He recently tweeted that one can be either a Reagan Republican or a Trump Republican, but not both.

There are four governors in the race who have made their state's great again, as Trump says he wants to do with America, Reagan said, and he is troubled they aren't doing better in the polls.

In Reagan’s day, the MSM were liberal partisans but not active Democrat regime functionaries (journ-0-list).

I believe it requires different weapons and tactics.

What bills is he going to pass? What law is he going to pass? Has this guy had a stroke or something?

Michael Reagan, the adopted son of Ronald Reagan and Jane Wyman, is appalled that the FOUR governors in the race aren’t doing better?

Chris Christie? The RINO governor of New Jersey?

John Kasich....the uber RINO governor of Ohio?

Rick Perry? The open borders former governor of Texas, who has officially dropped out of the race?

Bobby Jindahl? The governor of Louisiana with a 30% approval rating in his state?

Michael Reagan is starting to sound more like Ron Jr. these days.

Many were appalled by the antics of his sister, Patti Davis.

I agree. The Gipper wasnt afraid to use the stick when the carrot failed. Trump is the only hitter on the field.

Different times call for different things. Trump isn’t a man for all times, but I think he’s the right man for right now.

Michael Reagan's father would be appalled at his son's ignorance of the Constitution.

Trump is no Reagan. But that does not mean he cannot be good for America.

Michael needs to stop trying to be the voice of his father. He's no RWR either.

Sorry, Michael, times have changed but some traits are actually similar.

Trump and Reagan could turn a phrase and they both appeared to run in foo foo, show biz crowds, in liberal circles, but both had a rather conservative spine and they housed testosterone.

Who would Michael Reagan be *for*, I wonder? Jeb?

Trump understands the bully pulpit and people are so mad at what’s going on they’re actually paying attention and want someone who will not back off and be “polite”.

Reagan only got elected when he actually fought back. When he played kissy face with the media and liberals he got skunked.

I think Regan would say, “Do what you have to, Mr. Trump, winning right now is all that matters.”

Next up, National Review asks Michael Regan what he thinks his father would think about Ben Carson.
