Outsiders: Trump, Bernie, Ted Cruz and the Peasants with Pitchforks
The Washington Post's Achenblog ^ | August 13, 2015 | Joel Achenbach

I was there for the “peasants with pitchforks” speech. Pat Buchanan was holding forth in a crowded room at the Sheraton Hotel in Nashua, N.H., a couple of days before the 1996 GOP primary. The Republican Establishment’s favorite for the nomination was Bob Dole, but Dole, for all his solid credentials and admirable history as a war hero and congressional leader, was never someone to incite a political fever, never one to tap the more visceral emotions of the rowdy electorate.

So here came Buchanan, the TV pundit and unapologetic nativist, and in the icy environs of the New Hampshire primary he was a glowing coal of anti-Establishment fury. But he was also having a ball, relishing every moment, improvising the whole thing — a guy with nothing to lose. Toward the end of his stump speech, he uttered what became his most famous line:

“We shocked them in Alaska. And stunned them in Louisiana. And then stunned them again in Iowa. And they are in a terminal panic in Washington. They are frightened. They hear — ha ha — they hear the shouts of the peasants from over the hill. You watch the Establishment, all the knights and barons will be riding into the castle, pulling up the drawbridge in a minute. And they’re comin’! All the peasants are comin’ with pitchforks after them! So we’re going to take this — we’re going to take this over the top.”(continued)

So now we have returned to the “pitchforks” and “Peasants” themes replete with their aristocratic hatred for the “real world” from the elite ivory tower university eco-religious fanatics, eh?

Stopped reading after I saw the word “nativist” - obviously a leftist.

People like to draw on the past to predict the future. This is a different day, a different era, all complete with a set of problems we have never before experienced. Americans are angry - more angry than they have ever been since the days of the American Revolution. We handed the House to the Republicans in 2010 - and they complained - they were only 1/3 of the government and couldn’t do anything. So we gave them the Senate in 2014, only to be betrayed once again by feckless, spineless traitors among us. And, these clueless wimps still don’t get it - we wanted Obama’s agenda stopped, and they threw in with them. If Trump wins this thing - they have no one to blame but themselves. We sure don’t want any more of their ilk who pretend to represent us. I think shock waves will be heard around the world in November 2016.

Bernie should always be referred to as “Sanders”, or better yet, wild-eyed bomb-throwing has-been. He’s not a peasant, he’s a herder of peasants, a leader from the hindmost position. He’s the George McGovern of 2016, and is as likely to win the nomination as is Hillary — but the Demwit establishment is more than half against her, and would prefer anyone but her and probably Sanders. That’s the reason there’s been recent pushing for Biden to run, but there are three or four other declared “real” candidates, as well as other rumors (Al Gore, John Kerry, Fauxahontas).

Yes. America is into a life/death struggle and people who love her want to save her, so, many are looking to Trump who is looking like the knight with the strength and the testosterone to face the truth and the battle. I do not live in a major urban area on the East or West Coast, but, in my area, I have never seen people so concerned and upset.

I see “Trump For President” bumper stickers in my neck of the woods. No one else from either party. Just Trump.

If we’re not careful, if we ignore the Media, the GOPe, and the “true conservatives,” history could be being made. Right here. Right now.

Trump, Cruz, Carson, or Fiorina. Either one could, and probably will, make history.
