Memphis, Tennessee (CNN)Ted Cruz said Tuesday that he expects to voluntarily disclose the names of people raising money for his presidential bid, reversing his campaign's previous position.
The Texas Republican senator, who boasts in nearly every speech of his campaign's ability to raise cash, told CNN in an interview on his campaign bus that he would release the names of "bundlers" who collect checks from their networks and funnel them to the campaign.
"We generally opt toward disclosure," Cruz said when asked why he previously had no plans to release the names. "The names of our bundlers are not terribly secret given our fundraising events. The invites are all public, or quasi-public, or emailed out."
A Cruz spokeswoman previously said that he would not name his bundlers, a position that Cruz indicated he was unaware of. Campaigns are only required to release identities of registered lobbyists who choose to fundraise.
Cruz frequently rails against what he terms the "Washington cartel," believing that lobbyists corruptly steer donations toward establishment-friendly candidates who then return legislative favors. Anti-corruption advocates generally favor the naming of campaign supporters who can direct hundreds of thousands of dollars to a presidential candidate of their choice in $2,700 chunks.
Cruz said he would release the identities "on our own timetable" and suggested that many of them would be in his home state of Texas, where he has captured some of the state's wealthiest backers....

Donald Trump there?
The list hasn’t been released yet.
Thanks CNN.
You haven’t exactly made it secret yourself.
CNN reporter: “Senator Cruz, Senator Cruz.....although what you’ve done isn’t technically illegal, don’t you think this opens you up to charges of being in bed with Big Money?”
I’m sure Ted Cruz knows who the big money is behind democrats and can throw some names and numbers out there. The democrat interviewer will want to move on to other questions.
I can’t imagine HRC wanting to volunteer her big money donors. Perhaps he wants to goad John Ellis Bush into releasing his, as Walker and the rest aren’t likely to pick up on this issue.
BTW folks, there is no reason not to donate through 2DV. I had concerns about security at first, but if you click the link on his about page, it goes straight to the usual Cruz donation page.
If we help 2DV, then don’t we help the whole FR system? And if we do, then isn’t this a help to the conservative blogosphere in general? I put it to you, FReepers - isn’t this a help to the entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want, but I am going to do what I can for the United States of America. Gentlemen!”
Have them come over and photograph my “mansion” and “luxury” vehicles to prove their point.
Good. I should mention Trump beat him to it. His bundler is . . . Trump.
Cool - I would want to be on that list.
I’ve gotten three calls from Cruz bundlers so far. I half expect to get a call from you one day, and I’ll ask if you’re 2ndDivisionVet from Free Republic? So far the calls have all been from women, and I don’t know any Female FReeper Cruz bundlers.
I don’t normally call people. I sometimes e-mail or talk to people in person and post the info on blogs and such.
It doesn't bother me that they do, all campaigns need money.
I donate what I can.
I don’t mind getting called either. But I prefer to donate at tedcruz.org, not over the phone.
