When the Republican candidates take stage in Cleveland for the first presidential debate, former Texas Gov. Rick Perry will likely be watching from his hotel room somewhere. The candidate who briefly dominated polling in the 2012 contest and began this campaign in the middle of the pack, looks to settle in 11th or 12th place when the debate cut-off is set.
His relegation to the consolation stage hours before the main debate is largely a consequence of the ongoing Donald Trump boomlet. While almost all candidates have suffered in the polls as the real estate developer has surged to the top of the pack, few have suffered so directly from the Trump phenomenon. Perry seemed to bet his early candidacy on attacking Trump. That strategy has backfired spectacularly.
When Trump launched his presidential campaign in early July, he led with a broadside against illegal immigration and focused specifically on criminal activity of illegal aliens. Political commentators and the media naturally seized on Trumps remarks, but Perry took specific issue with the comments. He criticized Trump strongly on cable news shows and even released a video attacking Trump.
A few weeks later, when Trump made an off-the-cuff remark about Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and seemingly criticized his war record, Perry again jumped into the fray and demanded the competing candidate apologize for the remarks....

Trump made the most generous offer imaginable to save the US. The other ones who aspire to be President can wait four years.
Perry has the IQ of a grapefruit.
Good riddance.
mostly positive, and A TON OF IT TOO
The Lone Ranger and Tonto were surrounded by a war party of Indians and when the Lone Ranger said, "Tonto, I think we are in trouble", Tonto replied, "What do you mean we, white man"?
“advanced stage of paranoia”?
Sorta like your quip,
“Theyre doing wonderful things with drugs these days. Check it out.”
That’s uncalled for but it does lead me to wonder how you
could identify “advanced stage of paranoia” and know a
quick fix “Theyre doing wonderful things with drugs these days. Check it out.”
I’m sure you know this from your own personal experience.
As for the rest of your spout. BLA BLA BLA. Totally exaggerated. It’s not the “most absurd” you’ve heard in the
past two months. You just want to bitch about something is all.
Need better analysis IMO...when Rick Perry didn’t shutdown that fat, nasty, drunk broad who tried to railroad him (and may have succeeded), he proved that what Trump is doing is successful, and the opposite is not. If he would have come out swinging the Texas people would see him as standing up for himself, ergo, his beliefs. I said at the time he was toast politically as a result.
I watched the interview on FNC and thought Perry did a reasonable job of defending his economic record as governor, his efforts to secure the Texas border, and his recent attacks on Donald Trump.
Perry may actually benefit from being excluded from the big debate on Thursday as it will allow him to get some practice at the small debate with less scrutiny on his performance.
Look, I notice others lit you up for saying that Breitbart is anti Trump. Sorry ma’am, but the evidence is clear, Breitbart has given Trump a TON of coverage and 95% of it is positive, and the other 5% is not negative, just circumspect.
Here you are all paranoid about Breitbart being in the tank for Yeb (his coverage in Breitbart has been 100% negative) - it’s just one of the most ridiculous and demonstrably wrong assertions ever made on the site.
I don’t think the word boomlet was a good choice, but damn, the author (Flynn) has far more conservative anti establishment cred than you ever will.
At least Breitbard tried to cover the story on Jeb Bush’s connections to Planned Parenthood.
Fox News, aka, RINO News, has buried it in the memory hole. Not the first mention of it on their website or on any of their cable programs. Bush working for Bloomberg’s pro-abortion foundation WOULD DESTROY his candidacy and RINO News is solely responsible for hiding the story from the general public. The liberal media could care less because it’s about killing babies and RINO News could care less because it would sink their favorite RINO’s chance at the nomination.
I’ve emailed RINO News, and sent the link to every program on RINO News, and I am summarily ignored. They refuse to carry the story and so far are getting by with it.
[Perry may actually benefit from being excluded from the big debate on Thursday]
Anyone participating in the 2nd tier debate might as well hang it up. They will forever be known as the candidates who didn’t make the cut.
Ok and here is my reply to your more civil post.
You right, I was just put off by the term boomlet and that
he has already lasted longer than what it actually means.
Besides I’ve seen Breitbart sell out before, right after
Andrew died. Remember that? The story he was going to break.
I liked Breitbart, but don’t remember what you’re speaking about. What story was Breitbart going to break?
Fair enough.....and I remember something vaguely about that story....I was not writing for them at the time and had not met any of the head guys. I do know there was a lot of uncertainty about who was going to do what, a lot of turn over and turmoil.....until it all settled out.
I would hesitate to call it a sell out.....maybe Andrew as the only one who knew enough and took some of the info to his grave sadly. I don’t know. Not making excuses, I just don’t know and had zero contact with them at the time.
And while I agree with you on boomlet - I am sure it was intended to be benign. Flynn just dumped a lot of his personal savings into running for Congress against an estab guy in a primary for a special election.
He came off as a weird puppet and tried to make Trump's McLame comments about Marcus Lutrell. Did not work.
His opponents have a huge problem---Trump has become the most trusted man in America.
This is an even bigger problem for Hillary.
Lol...and there's never been a 'comeback kid' in the history of politics either.
Perry has an opportunity to rebound from his demotion, and a good performance with a smaller debate group may work to his advantage.
Listening to Perry, on Fox, now. It’s actually hilarious listening to Perry list all of the “characteristics people want in a President”....and, every thing he points out....point to Trump!
LOL...Perry now saying he “knows how to seal the border”. You can’t make this stuff up.
Rick may not make the Adult table.
Huge problem for hillary. The media hype does not reflect real world values of what women want in a leader. Trump is presenting himself as that can-do kind of guy.
