Donald Trump is taking hits from Democrats and top Republicans officials for his commentsbut the controversy hasn't knocked him from the top of national field among Republican primary voters, according to a poll released Tuesday.
Trump comes in as the first choice of 17 percent of likely GOP primary voters in the latest national poll, conducted by USA Today and Suffolk University. His closest competitor is Florida Gov. Jeb Bush at 14 percent. After Bush, it's Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (8 percent), Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas (6 percent), Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida (5 percent), neurosurgeon Ben Carson, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (4 percent each), and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (3 percent).
The rest of the candidates, who received less than 2 percent support, include Texas Gov. Rick Perry, former Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, businesswoman Carly Fiorina, Ohio Gov. John Kasich, Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, and former New York Gov. George Pataki.
The poll also looks at a scenario that national Democrats contemplate with glee: a Trump-Clinton general election, with Hillary Clinton coming out far ahead. In a theoretical matchup, the GOP business tycoon trails Clinton by 17 points, 51 percent to 34 percent.
The poll surveyed 1,000 adults, including 349 likely Republican primary voters, from July 9-12. The general-election numbers have a margin of error or +/- 3 percentage points; the GOP primary numbers have a margin of error of +/- 5.25 percentage points.
CRUZ, WALKER, TRUMP.
NO JEB! Ever.
Rubio is bottom fishing in other polls.
I hear Hillary saved the carpet they rolled old Vince in for the drive to Ft. Marcy. She just can’t figure out how to get Trump into it.
You do see that Hillary is only at 51% in this poll do you not? Hardly killing it.
Maybe 30 years from now, we'll be talking about another presidential candidate by saying that he is no Trump.
Heck I'm saying that today about all the GOP candidates.
Just sayin’....if Trump is already at 34% and hillary is down to 51%, it’s a good number for Trump to work from. Can you imagine what Trump will do to the wench in a debate?
Trump is the only one with the experience running a multifaceted billion dollar complex business. And that’s what our government is. He will chose a staff who will solve problems ......or FIRE them.
I like many of other candidates. They too have areas of expertise But even the governors can’t match Trumps business expertise
We and EVERYONE ELSE KNOWS WHY HE SKYROCKING...its what he saying on illegals... it exposing the lie its a bad politics not to be pro illegals...
its showing that the RINOS are full of s..t! on illegals and 180 deg out of phases with the base
.. We the base do not have the losing idea....the leadership has the losing idea....
The party troop have not lose the battles... its the traitors party general that loose.....it time to frag our limp d--k party commanders
Might be fun entertainment but will have little effect on the results.
The mainstays of the Democrat vote could care less about debates. They want gravy.
Amen to that. I have intentions to build up financial support as the contests draw closer early next year.
Ted will need it.
I hope Trump leaves Jeb Bush crushed and discredited.
Hillary may want that, too, but what matters is that neither Clinton nor Bush will move this nation in the right direction.
You sound like Romney when he refused to campaign for votes from his "lower 47". Did you see what Trump did to appeal to the masses this past Saturday? He gave family members who lost loved ones the opportunity to tell the story of their loss onstage. It was classy, and Trump demonstrated great compassion, honest emotion, and connection. That's what will win the election.
[...but the controversy hasn’t knocked him from the top...]
Fox News is going to issue ‘new and improved’ polls prior to their ‘fair and balanced’ debates, so my question to him would be...”Will you accept to be dropped into their separate ‘loser category’ panel and debate there”?
As a matter of fact, I would pose that question to any ACTUAL Conservative running.
That’s a great poster! I’m snatching it!!!
8^)
Gee I wonder if Karl Rove will keep citing old and stale polls on Fox News. /sarc
Not to mention the melting pot appearance of the women involved in Miss USA. Each of those have family and community too
* Trump was just on Howie Carr.
* The Boston Mayor say's he can't build in the city until he apologies to the Hispanic Community
* Trump told Howie, "The Mayor has to apologize to Mr. Trump".
* Jeff Kuhner who is on before Howie is telling the mayor essentially screw you, you won't give me a permit for a rallye for Trump( they are working on one)? We will hold it in a big hotel, they can't stop that.
Listen to the Boston Media, for what ever reason they are on the cutting edge of all this right now, I can't explain it, it's been happening for about a month now.
For better or worse, they seem sick of all politicans pro-Cruz but riding the Trump train.
