Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee made clear on Sunday that he sees some immigration issues differently than his Republican presidential rival, Donald Trump.
What I have been doing is focusing on what my own views of immigration happen to be, rather than weighing in on getting in this battle of, are we with Trump or against Trump? Huckabee said on CNNs State of the Union. I say some things very differently. I say every night, I get on my knees and thank God Im in a country people are trying to break into, rather than one theyre trying to break out of.
While some immigrants may have nefarious goals, Huckabee said most of them come to the U.S. for the opportunity to be Americans.
They come to help their families, some of the hardest-working people and I think this is often lost some of the most conservative, family-oriented and faith-based people I have ever witnessed, he said.
I would never besmirch all the people who come here because I think, sometimes, we get wrapped up in how many people are coming. The real question is, why are they coming? Huckabee said. If theyre coming because they want to be part of the American dream, if they want to come and share our flag, our interests, our language, assimilate into our culture because they believe in what we stand for, you know, then thats the same reason our ancestors came.
And Huckabee was quick to declare that Trump, the billionaire real estate developer and entertainer, needs no help from Mike Huckabee to get publicity. Hes doing a really good job of that.
Im for some reasonable approaches to immigration that start with a secure border," the former governor said, pledging to secure the U.S.-Mexico border within a year if hes elected president.
He. Suckabee lives down to my expectations.
Too many tools for the toolbox these days.
Well, he is looking at the top 60% or so... Too bad that he ignores the unlawful criminal element, the other 40%. Of course, he like way too many others are taking the high road (the PC road) and trying to ply his way into the media...ha!
Yuck needs to go away. I hope they don’t bring him back to TV after this flop campaign.
F’ckabee...another one of the GOP’s progressive losers.
Yes, well he actually went from about a 95% to 5% so maybe I’m a bit unusual...geez. Where are all the real Conservatives anyway!
“Mike Huckabee splits..”
Stop right there.
Another strawman argument.
Bye, Huckster, you GOPe POS.
Monseiur Milquetoast Speaketh!
Just keep clutching those pearls.
We will look elsewhere for boldness and leadership.
So the media lets Trump evade the gay marriage question and conservatives let it go? I don’t agree with Huckabee on a lot, but at least he stood up for marriage. Trump won’t say anything to offend gays.
Mike Huckabee, Mike Huckabee, the name kind of rings a Bell.
Geez, I just realized that he wasn’t even on my Republican Presidential Contender List so I can’t write him off.
Well, I guess I’ll write his name down and cross it out, just for Posterity.
He doesn't want to do that. He needs them to watch (and judge) his pageants.
Exactly. I really hate it when amnesty advocates talk about today’s illegals in the same breath as the idyllic immigrants from the late 1800s. It is such a specious, blatantly bulls*it comparison.
We cannot take care of all the Western Hemisphere’s underclass. But I’m glad Trump is talking about this, because now it’s even more clear that Washington doesn’t give a damn about taxpaying, law-abiding US citizens.
He’s looking pretty effeminate these days. Maybe they do more than that.
What a stupid, stupid comment. So I guess Huckabee thinks bankers should be thankful that people are trying to rob them.
Trump already answered the homo marriage. He said it was a bad ruling that took away the state’a powers.
But you knew that already. Anything to piss on a Trump thread because he’s a threat to your darling Republicans.
My high school counselor never mentioned “running for president” as a career choice.
How many candidates now? A couple hundred?
The irony is that if the nation went back to its core values, it actually would be wealthy enough to take care of this entire hemisphere of the planet with essentially spare change.
