African American staffers on Capitol Hill plan to stage a protest Thursday in solidarity with similar demonstrations nationwide.
African American Congressional staffers are planning a protest on the U.S. Capitol steps Thursday afternoon, disrupting their workday to speak out against the Eric Garner and Mike Brown grand jury decisions.
The protest follows large demonstrations in New York and other major cities last week, which were held to speak out about the deaths of these two African American men.
Black staffers on Capitol Hill wanted to do something in support of ongoing national and global protests against police aggression, an organizer said, speaking on background because the event hadnt been announced. Many of us felt we needed to stand with others who were taking on the issue of police abuse and do it here, where we work, even though not all of us have had that same experience, personally. Everyone I talked to has known someone whos been directly impacted.
The demonstration will involve staffers interrupting their workday to attend the protest during one of Congress busiest weeks of the year. Congress is currently debating a spending bill to avoid a government shutdown, its annual Pentagon policy bill, and a bill to authorize the president to use military force against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
As black staffers on Capitol Hill, we saw a stark disconnect," the event organizer said. "While we hold education credentials and broad access in the overall political system, often when we walk outside, we contend with the fact that we are seen as dangerous, merely because of the color of our skin.
There was a debate among organizers about how aggressive the action should be: a die-in somewhere in the Capitol Complex and a rally with posters were also considered.
But organizers wanted to do something that would welcome participants, Democrat and Republican, from throughout the House and Senate. These organizers decided more militant tactics could have made the gathering less inclusive, and opted for a more moderate approach.
One thing that all organizers agreed on: that it would not be held during Congressional recess, when their bosses, American Senators and Congressmen, were out of town.
The Congressional Black Associates, Senate Black Legislative Staff Caucus, the Brooke-Revels Society, the Congressional African Staff Association, and the African American Women on the Hill Networkall dedicated to representing African American staffers on Capitol Hillare helping to organize the protest as a "show of unity and solidarity to stand shoulder to shoulder with other peaceful demonstrations."
These groups will be joined by members of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Staff Association and the Congressional Hispanic Staff Association.
The event has some precedence: in 2012, some 250 to 300 aides rallied on the U.S. Capitol steps with hoodies, in reaction to the death of Trayvon Martin, the teenager shot in Sanford, Fla. Thursdays event is expected to involve participants posing with the iconic Hands Up, Dont Shoot posture, which has become a staple of protests surrounding the death of Brown in Ferguson, Mo.
The protest is scheduled for Thursday at 3:30pm on the steps in front of the U.S. House of Representatives. Senate Chaplain Dr. Barry Black, who is also African American, will pray for peace, and for the grieving families affected by the grand jury decisions.
Hope they keep on walking.
Shouldn’t let them back in for leading a lynch mob.
Yep.
Keep heading east until they’re underwater.

I’d say repeated robberies, home invasions, knockout games, and hammer times not to mention pillaging and looting by members of your race that far exceed other races in violent crimes probably won’t help your argument either and don’t even try to say the facts are skewed by white men because it’s very obvious to everyone what the truth is but you won’t accept responsibility for it because you never do.
Damn the evidence! Full speed ahead!
Bullshit ... the only word dirty enough to identify the stupidity of black people running with this scam.
Quick! Somebody lock the door so they can’t get back in!
With this crap and the story that was told the other day about how WE get to pay for the ‘ego’ of the Overseers by letting them move up to new offices, and naturally I am sure in order to move into a new office it will require a paint job, carpeting, new desk etc etc etc.
In a half jesting moment about 10 years ago I had figured we would be money ahead to give them all say 2 mill a year, let them hire who they want, decorate how they want, pay for meals in the Cafeteria, pay for haircuts etc etc etc.
The ONLY thing ‘WE’ pay for is Security, the building/office space with minimum set up, 2 round trips to their home district - coach - per year UNLESS they are called back to declare war or something, NO housing allowance, an office in their district that goes on to the next guy.
These guys are getting all this money and enough of them NEVER go home and a few apparently don’t even have a residence of any king in their home state...
Get these people out of the Career Politician mode and go back to the way the Founding Dads intended it to be. WORK.
Of course when you allow people to right their own governing rules it sure ain’t good for us ‘little folk’.
> disrupting their workday
A way of life for “activists”, the ones that have jobs, anyway.
Good. Don't come back for your final paycheck.
Lock the doors behind them.
Good. May they leave and never come back.
When they do “work”, it is usually with the goal of destroying freedom and liberty. Anything that stops them from doing that is okay by me.
Quick! Someone send them a clip of the Youtube video of the angry black female going off on Mike Brown, saying he got what he deserved.
So my question is, when they walk off the job, will anyone notice any work not being done?
Looting will be kept at normal levels.
Any white who still spouts the BS that it is only some minority of blacks who support this crap is delusional.
