Paul Ryan: Obama's Exec Amnesty Not 'High Crimes'
Breitbart's Big Government ^ | July 30, 2014 | Tony Lee

Posted on 07/30/2014 11:32:05 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

At a Christian Science Monitor breakfast Wednesday, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) said President Barack Obama's lawless executive actions are not high crimes and misdemeanors worthy of impeachment.

"I see this as sort of a ridiculous gambit by the president and his political team to try and change the narrative, raise money, and turn out their base for an upcoming election that they feel is not going to go their way," Ryan said, according to the Wall Street Journal. "[Obama's executive actions do] not rise to the high crime and misdemeanor level."

However, as Andrew McCarthy, the former federal prosecutor and author of Faithless Execution: Building the Political Case for Obama’s Impeachment, wrote in National Review, many politicians and pundits do not know what "high crimes and misdemeanors" actually are when it comes to impeachment.

"Contrary to some less than informed opinion, 'high crimes and misdemeanors' – the legal standard for impeachment – refers not to indictable criminal offenses but to profound breaches of the public trust by high-ranking officials," McCarthy wrote. "Once the standard is understood, it becomes easy to see that the president and his underlings have committed numerous, readily provable impeachable offenses. "

"Yet, even if a president commits a hundred high crimes and misdemeanors, impeachment is a non-starter unless the public is convinced that the president should be removed from power," he continued. "The real question is political: Are his lawlessness and unfitness so thoroughgoing that we can no longer trust him with the awesome power of the chief executive?"

Conservative scholar and talk radio host Mark Levin, who was the Chief of Staff to Ronald Reagan's Attorney General Ed Meese, also said that "a high crime and misdemeanor doesn't mean [Obama] goes out and robs a bank or knocks off a 7-Eleven...."

Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, President and Mrs. Ferdinand Marcos and LOTS of other leaders have found themselves fleeing the people. Anyone who says it cannot happen here is dreaming. Those folks, for the most part, were unarmed. We sure as hell are not.

Our history books are full of instances where locals took on corrupt leaders. In my state the more recent ones were Battle of Athens and another one was a McNairy County Marine vet took a big stick to a corrupt sheriffs department owned by the Dixie Mafia. Other ones include the War of Coal Creek where local miners captured a state militia the governor had sent in LOL.

Apparently nothing constitutes “high crimes”.

President Nixon had to resign whilst facing impeachment for maybe 3% of what Mr. Obama has done.

Lor, the incompetence of GOP leaders and what’s sad is they don’t see it.

They see it. They simply don’t care. Power of office and keeping it at any cost including the survival of our nation is their sole agenda. They want their place in the forthcoming Politburo government they are helping to establish. May at this point would also say “All Hail to Leader Obama long may he rule.” It’s sad but the majority of the GOP is now going there. All they want is their place of power in the new government and they’ll sell their souls to get it.

Spot on. The last time the GOP actually had a plan to do anything was the Contract with America. Even though I don’t always agree with Newt, I’ve always liked the fact that he lays out step by step plans.

“Ridiculous gambit”: good term for Paul Ryan’s “vice-presidential” “debate” performance

You must mean the 2014 primary winners: Cornball, McC, ThadEnough, Lovable Lindsey, Boehner, already a pretty endless list. With Lamar! certain to join on August 7, but only with the name "Cantor" missing

You are correct sir. See post 15. A lot of people have described, in colorful detail, all the things that the Obungler could get away with. They are all right.

Accounting skills? That “fiscal hawk” Paul Ryan not only voted for the single largest entitlement program since the (not so) Great Society, he co-authored it! You might recognize it by the catchy name they gave it: “Medicare Part D”. Paul Ryan is a fraud of epic proportions.

BINGO! Perhaps when the Lerner email is found from White House agreeing that Conservatives are indeed "@$$holes."

Getting 34 Senators or more to vote against ousting this President in an impeachment trial could be a valuable bit of ammo when each of them comes to the electorate for retaining their lofty position.

Getting them on record is worth something and meanwhile it would stifle this treacherous pig for at least a bit of time.

Dingy Harry would simply refuse to hold a trial. So much for getting them on the record. Dingy knows all about that!

In 1999, when Clinton's impeachment came before the Senate, the GOP was in charge, 55-45. So, the trial was held and the vote taken. Twelve Democrat cross-overs with no RINO defections would have done it. In the end, the RINO count was 10 on the perjury charge and 5 on the obstruction charge. The 'Rats all stayed with their guy. You can see a nice color-coded, sortable list in the Wikipedia.

Completely agree.

Gingrich in 1994-1995 was the last time Conservatives had a passionate, politically brilliant, street fighting, national leader.

Tragically, for us and the country, Gingrich was completely unprepared for - and completely paralyzed by - the MSM and Democrat Party counter attack.

Even more tragically, Gingrich responded to the relentless legal and political assault by moving his positions to the Left, by moderating his rhetoric, by offering a hand of friendship to the Democrats, and, finally, by attacking the very same Conservatives who put him in power in the first place!

True, but people in WI don't know that. He just let Biden totally dominate him in their "debate". Lacked the ability to think, it seemed in retrospect

Today in early voting I voted for Joe Carr for U.S. Senate to replace Alexander. IF Alexander wins I’ll vote Independent in November.

Newt wasn’t ran off by the DEMs. Those he could handle. He was ran off by an organized coup within the GOP by the man holding the position of Speaker of The House today. Here’s what went down. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Paxon BTW note the mans wife. Note who was a keynote speaker and highly visible in the 1996 GOP Convention.

It’s a non-controversy. The Senate isn’t going to convict for anything that’s happened so far. There’s no point in beating up Ryan for recognizing the obvious.
