Jayme Smith and Sarah Palin stand outside La Quinta Inn and Suites on Friday.
The trip wasnt all business for those who supported U.S. Senate candidate Ben Sasse on his campaign tour through North Platte on Friday.
Kay Orr, the former Republican governor of Nebraska, admitted to sneaking in a little early morning shopping at Herbergers.
My husband always tells me I dont have to support every local economy, Orr said with a laugh.
Another featured guest, former Alaska governor and vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin, took advantage of the beauty services North Platte has to offer.
Jayme Smith, cosmetologist for Studio 54, was recruited to style Palins hair.
I was a little nervous but more excited, Smith said. I had researched her past hair styles, but she kind of told me what she was looking for. She was awesome. A real nice lady. She autographed my product bag.
Smith was asked on April 17 if she would do the job. She was recommended by Barb Fear, manager of La Quinta Inn and Suites, where Palin was staying.
I was pretty ecstatic, Smith said of the request.
She went to the hotel so Palin wouldnt have to be in the salon. The styling process took about an hour, during which time Palin practiced her speech and asked questions about Nebraska.
She thought it was neat that Kool-Aid got its start here, Smith said. And we talked about beef. Steak is a big thing in Alaska. They eat a lot of caribou.
Smith is excited to have the story to pass on to her kids and grandkids someday.
The whole thing was very fun, Smith said. Im glad I got to do it.
Or even Plugs Biden.... they haven’t done anything like this in forever
Great story. Thanks for posting it.
Shouldn’t this be bumped to Breaking News?
lol
Only if they would’ve revealed her hair spray brand.
Very nice, and very typically Nebraskan. Anyone who doubts that North Platte is the real deal should read the story of the North Platte Canteen: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Platte_Canteen
In WWII, North Platte was a tender point for steam troop trains, and a 26 year old woman got the idea that the people of the town should meet every train that passed through, to show their support for the troops. And through the depths of wartime sacrifice, scarcity, and rationing - they did. All six million servicemen, every train, every day. This is the America many of us remember so well, and are hoping can return some day.
Meanwhile I guess we have to put up with burning oaks telling us Palin is a silly woman and snarks passing judgement about the type of character and values we need in a national leader
Sarah is so unpretentious!
Her Grizzlyness be STYLIN’ !
Want to bet that Gov. Palin left a tip from her own pocketbook, rather than sneak out while a staffer gets stuck with the bill (Yo! Hillary!)
That is one of her many qualities I admire.
Unlike Dear Leader who has many photos snapped of him where his nose is stuck in the air. He carries himself as though he is above everyone. I really don’t understand how so many people fell for him and adore him he turns my stomach.
I wonder how many PDSers this thread will attract?
Hmmmm, maybe there’s already one ...
Good night, God bless and keep you all.
I would like JUST ONE Palin thread not to descend into a D.U. Clone.
La Quinta isn’t the Marriott or Ritz Carlton, but they are pretty decent.
Lucky dogs, I didn’t know she was that close to Wyoming.
You and DrO have our prayers, Onyx. Get your rest and thanks for all you do.
I read about that.

“La Quinta” is a Spanish phrase meaning “next to Dennys”. :)
And down the block from Waffle House!
