Roger Simon: Conservatives at CPAC snub Christie for crazy
The New Hampshire Union Leader ^ | March 9, 2013 | Roger Simon, Politico's chief political columnist

Posted on 03/10/2013 8:08:14 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

IN POLITICS, snubs are more important than invites.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a Republican and social conservative, has been refused a speaking spot at the Conservative Political Action Conference to be held this week just outside Washington.

CPAC, as it is known, is the Ames Straw Poll without the fun.

The Ames Straw Poll held in Iowa has free drinks, free eats, free face painting and free country music followed by a bunch of speeches and a meaningless presidential straw poll.

CPAC has a bunch of speeches and a meaningless presidential straw poll.

Previous CPAC straw poll winners have included President Jack Kemp (three times), President Phil Gramm, President Steve Forbes, President Gary Bauer, President Rudy Giuliani, President George Allen, President Ron Paul (twice) and President Mitt Romney (four times.)

Winning the CPAC straw poll would be a kiss of death except that two winners - Ronald Reagan (three times) and George W. Bush (once) - actually survived it and went on to the Oval Office....

They really can't seem to help lying, it seems to be in their DNA.

The issue isn’t so much what kind of conservative he was. Traitors can always appear to be right in line till the moment of truth. Fate put the Gov. Christie in a position to thank the president and all those helping NJ recover from the hurricane but he used it to give Obama a Gov Crist size hug and claimed he did something that he didn’t and threw the election to the Rats. He has as much future in the Republican Party as the other judas, Charlie Crist.

Christie, "a social conservative?"

What are they smoking at the Union Leader, Roger? Has pot been legalized in NH as well?

I'm confused as I thought that it was one of the complaints about Christie, he was a fiscal conservative not a social conservative.

Kathleen is definitely the sort you’d have expected stirring a large boiling cauldron and cackling ~ (SEE: Lady MacBeth ~ her father was a Viking king and she was a Viking witch ~ Kathleen’s dad ain’t no kinda Viking, but his daughter is still a witch)

You know when our top Republican leaders see Christie as a Conservative - we are lost. The state of the GOP in general is what I would call catastrophic.

I’m afraid that the GOP is going to go the way of the Whigs here - they have no idea about what they should stand for, much less what they DO stand for. If only they would listen to the people instead of trying to be slightly right Democrats.

Looks like it really is time for another party to come forth. I have absolutely NO faith in the Republican Party!

CPAC has become a bit of a joke. I could care less who they let speak but if they were actually conservatives then Christie should NOT be allowed to speak. Yes, we can hear other sides of the spectrum and allowing him to speak would be just that. The major problem is that CPAC has become less of a Conservative group but more of a political group and letting Christie speak there would be nothing less than candidate pushing.

It is impossible to create a Party that matters, without attracting MANY people that you will not like or agree with.

3rd Parties are for fools and idiots and traitors.

Christie will NOT get the nomination, so why not find someone who can, and HELP that person?

What leader sees Chris Crispy Creme as a conservative? This is Roger Simon the journo hack, not Roger L Simon, the actual conservative.

Yes. This is absolutely right. However one feels about whether a handful of conservative sentiments expressed against the outrageous demands of NEA thugs, or a complaint that New Jersey's legislature ought to be thinking about occasional tax cuts (hardly cutting edge given where NJ is in terms of tax-burden) actually qualify one as a conservative, the simple fact is that I would not vote for Crispy Creme now even if he was Ronald Reagan. Hell, even if he were James Madison.

He's a traitorous piece of crap, and he deserves to stay in New Jersey for the rest of his career.

How would you caucus in an legislature?
How would you control any legislative body, local, State or Federal?
How would you avoid hurting conservative Republicans and THROWING elections to Liberal Democrats?

Your complaints are, for the most part, complaints against human nature.

those SAME complaints will crop up, RIGHT AWAY, with any other Party, no matter what the name, no matter who you attract that you like. There WILL be traitors and crazy people and cowards and idiots in EVERY political party.
