My local newspaper is also owned by Gatehouse Media, a failed and virtually bankrupt operation that can’t afford to hire any bigger brains that ones like this. I am a big advocate of unmanned vehicles. In this case the drone is really being used as a proxy for any use of the military against an individual, especially without due process. Drones have a couple of advantages when used by a dictator: The ability to place the operator under continuous threat and persistence. Other entities come and go; allowing free movement when they are gone. Some drone operations (with more than one drone) can easily maintain a 24 hour constant watch 7 days a week.

Sounds as if the author only saw an opening to mock and ridicule, when he should have recognized an attempt to point out that once these weapons programs are unleashed upon the continental US, they will not always be under the control of an administration of which he approves.

But, of course Republicans have had the same problem, having initiated and cheered the very DHS that has by all appearances now taken an alarming turn to the left, regarding many conservative constituencies as potential terrorists.

Say what you want about Rand Paul, but at least he took an unmistakable, highly visible stand against this. It’s clearly wrong to anyone with one iota of regard for the American people and our founding principles.
