AARP FL seniors-Boomer poll: Obama 44%-Romney 46%, Sen. Nelson 39%-Mack 42% (Uh-oh, Chongo!)

Despite repeated attempts to paint Republicans as bad for Medicare and Social Security, President Obama and Sen. Bill Nelson are essentially tied with their Republican rivals when it comes to Florida retirees and baby boomers, a new AARP poll shows.

Obama garners 44 percent of the vote to Mitt Romney's 46 percent and Nelson trails Republican Rep. Connie Mack by a 42-39 split. The Republican leads are well within the 4.4 percent error margin for the poll of the 503 registered voters surveyed by Hart Research Associates.**

Indeed, the Nelson-Mack race might be even tighter, with 19 percent of voters undecided. Without so-called "leaners"-- those unsure voters asked whom they lean toward -- Nelson is slightly ahead of Mack by 29-31 percent.

Underlying the senior's sentiments are persistent fears of the bad economy, their finances and the increasing sense that they'll have to rely on Social Security and Medicare for their retirement. Because many Republican plans call for bigger future-year changes to the entitlements that could eventually reduce benefits, Democrats have long been able to persuade senior voters that they're better equipped to manage these programs, which were created by Democrats.

But the poll suggests that Democratic edge is slipping away. More than 80 percent agreed with the statement that "my personal economic circumstances have been negatively affected" by the economic downturn of past four years and political gridlock in Washington. Both issues Obama said he'd fix when he was elected in 2008...

AARP is the biggest supporter of ObamaCare that there is, so if Mr. Obama and Sen. Nelson are losing in their poll the real numbers must be staggeringly bad for the Democrats!!

AARP

It’s a sad commentary on America that an entity that still claims to believe in the existence of the Social Security “Trust Fund” can actually get 40 million of people to send it membership money every year.

During the Olympics there was a really hard-hitting anti-Nelson ad (paid for by the Chamber of Commerce) that aired every night. This ad was targeted at seniors. I saw it here in the Panhandle, I assume (and hope!) that it played statewide.

The ad hammered Nelson on voting for Obamacare, pointing out that it will cost some seniors their Medicare Advantage benefits and that Obamacare includes $500 billion in cuts to Medicare. The end of the ad says something to the effect of “Florida seniors can’t afford Nelson in the Senate.” (I don’t recall the exact wording.)

Sounds like the Chamber of Commerce got their money’s worth out of that ad buy.

Polling the AARP doesn’t mean squat.

Most Conservatives have already moved on leaving jut the liberals there or those who desperately need 10% off on their hotel rooms.

Dontcha love it: “essentially tied,” meaning that BOTH Republicans lead by two or more points. LOL.

Seriously? It means a helluva lot. It means that if ZEro can’t win in THIS demographic in FL he is toast, three times over. Add to this the poll of northern VA earlier today where ZEro is barely ahead among . . . ADULTS! In other words, he’s tied with real voters in a region that ZEro won by 20 in 2008.

You have GOT to be kidding. Some of you think this is good? Romney SHOULD be ahead 15-20% among this group. If that’s all he can muster, he is royally screwed. THIS should be his main group of supporters.

Heaven help me.

Uh-oh, Chongo, indeed.

Zero may want to start dusting off that Indonesian passport.

This is what I posted in the Comments for the Miami Herald. Being a Local, I wanted to get in a blow for common sense.

Why do the comments always have to be a vile disregard for the other people’s opinions. Screaming hatred only makes people tune out what you are saying.

Walter Cronkite used to close with the comment, “Read your newspaper”. Stop yelling out unsubstantiated garbage and read your paper. Absorb, understand the facts and then make an informed opinion.

When you allow others to provide you with misinformation and accept it as fact you further no cause.

Take a look at the facts. We have reached a point in this economic meltdown where people cannot even afford to eat at McDonald’s. That’s right, even the Mc is losing money.

Retired people like me live off of a balance between the money we saved for retirement and dividends from investing those funds. These are IRA’s or, TSP’s or whatever form of invested savings you have set aside for retirement.

There is now virtually no dividends. The interest rate is stagnant because the Fed is keeping it arbitrarily low to prevent inflation. But in reality they are draining the life blood out of the retired peoples’ savings.

We have lost 40 percent of our savings already in this economic downturn. The interest we are being paid for our savings doesn’t keep up with the cost of inflation. It is time for a change.

You have to remember that pollsters are normally young adults. When you’re 50-90 years old and a youngster asks you if you prefer the current BLACK president or the other guy and they obviously know who you are, your phone number and where you live, what do you think they’ll say? When they are in the privacy of the voting booth, however, all bets are off...

This is the game plan, lower the bar this far out so they can show the creep up as we get closer to the Oct surprise.. I wouldn’t be surprise that they lower it even further before September to make his SURGE even more impressive..

One can only hope! We must take Nelson out of the Senate!!! No options on this one. We need as many seats in the Senate flipped as possible. Balance of power to control what happens to us all! Get out the vote!
