I'm sure Sarah Palin has access to good polling data. Hatch must have been ahead by a large enough margin that endorsing his opponent would have caused embarrassment when Hatch wins the nomination anyway.

On the other hand, her endorsement of Cruz in Texas might be quite beneficial to Cruz. Dewhurst isn't going to get a majority on May 29, so the TX senate race will be determined in a runoff July 31.

I’m not going to tell readers that I’m Senator Orrin Hatch’s biggest fan...

If I were Hatch's fan, I wouldn't tell anyone either.

I might be unusual in my thinkin, but I could care less how Conservative a politician is, because once they have been there 8+ years, I feel they are corrupt, period.

Out with the old, in with the new....

"As Sarah notes, Orrin Hatch has consistently been the strongest, loudest voice, championing Conservative nominees to the Supreme Court."

Orrin Hatch was Ruth Badermeinhoffgang Ginsberg's biggest cheerleader during confirmation hearings.

I don't see Palin's opinion on this in quotes. Seems this author is taking considerable license as to Palin's reasoning.

I still like Palin but I am against hatch and want his butt out. I realize that no one is going to agree with me on every issue.

Nobodies perfect, so I will give her a pass on Hatch. Palin record as governor is less than stellar when it came to taxes and the oil industry.
She's the reason Alaska is now number three in oil production instead of two.

I think it was a bad tactical move by Palin. Pissed off about a 1/3 to 1/2 of Freepers here. I really think she is trending mainstream RINO, and forgetting her rogue roots. Too bad.

I’m done with Sarah.

Strike One: supporting John McCain

Strike Two: The year long tease - and then not running.

Strike Three: Orin Hatch.

The deeds aren’t matching the words with Sarah. i don’t trust her anymore.

Any Congresscritter who has been in the House more than a decade and/or the Senate for more than 2 terms has been there too long.

They become part of the problem.

Sorry, Sarah, but you are wrong on this one, just like you were wrong on endorsing the old fossil from AZ.

...anyone who would allow themselves to be introduced as a “Mitt Romney Republican” is not a real deal Tea Party guy.

Hatch is what he is, but this time, with his race, "new" smells familiar and much worse.

I understand her McCain endorsement; honor and integrity means you repay your debts and McCain helper her.

These days, she's the one who helps.

“Senator Hatch has also been one of the few voices of reasons in the Senate, when it comes to reigning in spending.”

That statement doesn’t seem to square with:

1. Voted 16 times to raise the debt ceiling a total of $7.5 trillion.

2. Voted for TARP.

3. Ranked in the middle of the earmarking pack from 2008 to 2010, and in 2010 was 28th highest among the nation’s 100 senators.

Check with Liljenquist’s website to see where he stands on spending and taxes: http://www.danforutah.com/issues/

The article may be right that Liljenquist is weak on immigration. If so, I agree that that is troubling. However, as far as I know, unlike Hatch, he hasn’t been pushing a Dream/Nightmare Amnesty.

36 years is plenty of time to fight to reduce the size of government. How well has Orville done in that respect?

Palin is absolutely correct in her endorsement.

The ACU (American Conservative Union) ratings for 2011 can be found on the internet.

This venerable, trustworthy vetting organization posts a section where it lists "Senate Winners and Losers".

"Winners" listed having a 100% conservative voting record are:

Coburn, DeMint, HATCH, Inhofe, R. Johnson, Lee, Rand Paul, Rubio and Vitter.

Like Sarah, I'll take Hatch, warts and all, over an untried noobie who does not have the long-time, established conservative credentials I look for in a candidate. Mrs. Palin obviously felt the same way as I when she endorsed Orrin Hatch.

Senatorial voting records etched into the Congressional Record tell the tale.
