An Arizona co-chair of Mitt Romney's presidential campaign resigned after announcing that he is gay.
Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu was forced to come out after allegations that he dated a Mexican immigrant and hosted a pornographic online profile.
The Romney campaign said they received a call from Babeu and accepted his resignation.
"Sheriff Babeu has stepped down from his volunteer position with the campaign so he can focus on the allegations against him. We support his decision," spokesperson Ryan Williams said.
Arizona is holding its primary on February 28, and all four candidates will be in the state Wednesday for a CNN-sponsored debate.
The Phoenix New Times reported Friday that Babeu's boyfriend "Jose" said the sheriff has an online pornographic profile he refused to take down. He also threatened "Jose" with deportation if he told anyone of their relationship....
How can this be? I thought the “polls” are all saying that Americans now love the heck out of “gay” people. Is somebody lying again?
Well this could be a ‘fun’ debate.... Mr. Romney are you for the homosexual agenda? Mr. Romney should illegals be given special residency status for sex?
The issue he’s quitting over isn’t that he’s gay, it’s that the ex lover says he threatened him with harm if he ever dared reveal their relationship.
The fact that he’s now know to be gay is what forced him to “come out” as a gay.
Not why he resigned.
know(n) to be gay
It’s more complicated. Babeu is running for Congress from my District against arguably the most Conservative member of the Arizona State Senate, Ron Gould.
Babeu’s boyfriend “Jose” said the sheriff has an online pornographic profile he refused to take down. He also threatened “Jose” with deportation if he told anyone of their relationship..Good luck with that. This falls under case by case study.Ask Sheriff Joe about how well Obama listens to deporting illegals or Gov Brewer.threatened “Jose” with deportation , just another scam or shakedown.
...after allegations that he dated a Mexican immigrant and hosted a pornographic online profile.I only date women, I guess I'm a lesbian trapped in a man's body!!!

Having to come out as being gay could be an issue in his campaign in a conservative area, but the reason he resigned as Mitt’s co-chair was because of the misconduct allegations which are covered at the link.
Left wing paper outed him and funny thing it happened right after he supported immigration enforcement efforts and went after Obama on the issue. I’m sure that was just a coincidence. BTW I thought it was wrong to “out” people. That’s what the left used to say. It’s OK though if the guy is a conservative.
WOW, this guy is quite the multitask-er. Gay sex with an illegal boyfriend, sheriff, Mitt Romney's campaign adviser and running for Congress.
He resigned not because of the gay thing, but because he threatened to deport his ex-lover, who is an illegal alien. You can’t make stuff like this up.

I don’t have a problem with him being outed. If he didn’t want to be outed, he shouldn’t have been in’d. I’m glad he’s outed now, before he (maybe) eventually got to the US Senate and made a mess of stuff there, as in LG.
A far-left newspaper can make it up. Here is the proof they published that Babeu threatened to deport him...
Paul Babeu's Mexican Ex-Lover Says Sheriff's Attorney Threatened Him With DeportationIn one series of texts Jose provided, the sheriff himself appears to be threatening his former lover:
Babeu: "You can never have business after this and you will harm me and many others in the process . . . including yourself & your family."
Babeu followed with: "And you say you have loved me? Papi . . . this is no good."
Jose responded: "Good threats. Wont work. Im already hurt me . . . and you didn't care."
Then later:
Jose: "Dont threat me. Thats illegal. Im just speaking . . . true."
Babeu: "You have crossed the line. Better get an attorney. You brother will also be contacted."
Soon after, DeRose sent an e-mail directly to Jose ordering him to "cease and desist."
Babeu contended during the press conference that his attorney was contacting Jose and Jose's lawyer about Jose's tampering with campaign websites, that there were never any threats about Jose's getting deported -- but Jose and Weiss-Riner dispute the sheriff's claim.
I don't see any threat to deport him in that.
Babeu has been a great favorite among the crackpots. You know, the ones who makes serious conservatives look bad as often as they can. The Left will use this to attack us. I think the Romney support revealed what a fraud Babeu was. His homosexuality has just crushed his career as a commentator on FOX and would-be leader of the grass-roots anti-Obama movement in this country.
Count me as a crackpot then. I think the border should be tightly controlled, illegal aliens don’t belong here and psychotic drug cartel employees should be hammered when they operate on U.S. soil.
