Did David Axelrod Just Make Romney's 'Crate-Gate' a Campaign Issue?
The Atlantic Wire ^ | January 30, 2012 | Eric Randall

Posted on 01/30/2012 6:54:02 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

President Obama's campaign strategist David Axelrod chimed in Monday on the scandal surrounding the time Mitt Romney drove to Canada with his dog in a crate tied to the roof of his car in the 1980s. "Crategate," as the stupid pet trick was inevitably dubbed, has been an issue championed by New York Times columnist Gail Collins, who somewhat gleefully drops a reference to the story in as many columns as she can.

On Monday, Axelrod tweeted a photo of Bo Obama, the first family's dog, in the back of a limo with the words, "How loving owners transport their dogs." Not one to miss a controversy, Politico's Dylan Byers tweeted, "#ShotsFired," in response. Seamus, the long-deceased Romney family dog, has become a symbol for partisans of all stripes: Some see the anecdote as a funny example of Romney's somewhat over-eager commitment to efficiency, while others see signs of a cruel owner, and still others just can't wait to see how Collins chooses to work it into yet another column.....

It's not like there are hundreds of millions of pet owners out there who'll be offended by this ... oh, wait, yes there are!

Why doesn’t Axelrod Tweet a photo of Bo flying to Martha’s Vineyard on his own U.S. gov’t jet?

Oh, yeah? Check Bo’s blood alcohol content. That dog came from Teddy Kennedy, so it’s a sure thing that it’s drunk. Give it a few minutes, and it will find a female dog to molest.

I’ve owned dogs. When I had trouble packing stuff, I never thought...hey I’m going to strap the dog cage to the roof. I also wouldn’t joke about it afterward. It really at best has me questioning Mitt’s judgment, and I’m no animal rights guy.

In Islam, dogs are unclean, which necessitates the separate airplane.

My neighbor used to take his dog on trips that way. the container was sealed with holes on top. The dog would be very relaxed whenever they got home. He didn’t seem particularly stressed. Did Mittens really use a “cage”?

I’ve seen lots of dogs in the back of pickup trucks or with heads sticking out of car windows. I don’t think the dog minded the ride.

During this 12 hour intercontinental freeway trip, Mitt’s dog got sick.

“[The oldest son, Tagg Romney] glimpsed the first sign of trouble. ‘Dad!’ he yelled. ‘Gross!’ A brown liquid was dripping down the back window, payback from an Irish setter who’d been riding on the roof in the wind for hours... Romney coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station. There, he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, then hopped back onto the highway. It was a tiny preview of a trait he would grow famous for in business: emotion-free crisis management.”

I hate RomBama and every thing he stands for...but the dog crate is a non issue. Might a’ been had it been tied by the leash to a bumper...but secure in a crate to the roof??? I’m good. STFU about it. Newt rocks...Newt wins because RomBama is a liberal, socialist...not an animal abuser.
