Is Ron Paul A Republican or a Libertarian?

Thanks to glowing commentary from Ron Paul suppporters I have been called a coward, a traitor, a neocon, a nazi, that I'm sick and a 'demeanor' of the modern day Thomas Jefferson all because I said what a lot of Republicans are thinking but won't say: Ron Paul is a Libertarian and not a Republican. (For the record, with due respect to the Congressman, Ron Paul couldn't hold Thomas Jefferson's quill pen.)

Congressman Paul turned his back on the GOP in 1987 and resigned. Instead of trying to fix the problems that he cites in his resignation, he bolts and runs. He then ran for President as a Libertarian in 1988.

Dr. Paul ran for Congress again in 1996, but instead of running as a Libertarian, chose to run as a Republican. (More about this race in a little bit....)

“RuPaul is for RuPaul, and no one and nothing else.”

Are there any politicians about whom that cannot be said?

I'd vote for Pat before Paul in a second.

I make no distinction between Libertarians and libertarians. And nowadays - its hard to tell them from Republicans.

But one thing is for sure. They are NOT conservatives. See tagline. I’ve had it up for months.

A stopped clock is right twice a day, as is Congressman Paul; but I consider him more of a LooneyToonian. Th-th-th-th-that’s all, folks!

I supported Fred Thompson in the primaries until he bailed. I then worked as McCain’s Campaign Manager in the area that I live in. I’m Conservative.

Ron Paul is a bitter, crazy old coot.

He's also a libertarian.

He claims to be a Libertarian who found it expedient to claim to be a Republican to get elected.

I would caution that the real question and choices should be:

Is Ron Paul:
A. A Libertarian?
B. A Republican?
C. An Isolationist?
D. A nut bag?

My choice is D

Harry Truman, failed haberdasher, chose to pay his debt after bankruptcy. Fairly good president, died penny less I'm pretty sure, the reason for the presidential retirement program.
Thomas Jefferson, great president, died indebted and penny less, sold off his holdings to pay his debts.
Just because you've failed dose not disqualify you for running for office, many have failed but persevered, till they discovered there gift and succeeded.

I’ve gone around calling myself a conservative since Ronald Regan, now I discover I’ve been a libertarian all along, ‘Thank God’ now I know! let freedom ring!

Ron Paul is a Libertarian. Libertarians have been unsuccessful in building a party so they invade the GOP and try to subvert it to their agenda in the same way that they invaded New Hampshire to try to take over the state government. There is a definite pattern with these folks and a strong sense among them that their ideology will be embraced once forced down everyone’s throats by any means necessary. If you want a look at what a Libertarian “victory” looks like take a good look at Maryland.
