Hot Air Presidential Survey Results for December posted at 4:06 pm on December 2, 2011 by Patrick Ishmael

For the second survey in a row, Newt Gingrich leads the pack with nearly 50% of the vote. Rick Perry has moved back into second place, coming in just ahead of Mitt Romney, who finishes third. Herman Cain has dropped from second place to fourth — this after Cain led the survey only four weeks ago. Rick Santorum surges into fifth, nearly quadrupling his vote total from two weeks ago. Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann round out the main group.

Over 7500 ballots were cast this round. The graph to date is below.

Jumping into the internals a bit, who do Cain voters say they’ll vote for if their candidate gets out? The top single vote getter turns out to be Gingrich. Top 5 are below.

And if Gingrich runs into trouble? Well, in terms of second picks that benefits…

One last chart that I think’s worth noting and I’ll get to the rest of the results. I was asked on Twitter several times yesterday why I included Palin in a survey question, now that she’s out. This is why:

Palin is still a player in this race especially among the grassroots, and so speculation about what Palin’s kind words mean for Santorum shouldn’t be taken lightly. Results follow:

I've never seen "Grinding America Down", but I agree that the information it contains is important for all americans. It's chilling.

The goat video is hilarious! :)

Have you watched Grinding America Down? EVERYONE on FR (and anyone else that cares for the future of our country and our children's future) MUST watch that DVD

Just went to the link and I see that you have to purchase the DVD to see the film. I've seen a lot of mentions of "Grinding America Down" on FR and elsewhere. I'll have to check it out when I've got a few bucks to spare.

Thanks!

“Agreed, but this isn’t the 1950’s, when we could afford to have a go-along-get-along professional political animal in the White House.” We didn’t, we had a non-professional, Ike, in the White House for most of the decade. As for as “go-along-get-along” had leadership determined to take on the racism of the South and a foreign policy directed at the containment of Communism which meant our people lived in daily fear of nuclear war. We don’t face that now but do face the rapacious demands of the electorate who want everything for nothing.

Unfortunately, the only possible World Historic Individual (to put it in Hegelian terms) that I see is not willing to step into the arena. Cain is not even close to that.

I don’t know if you remember the 1990s but Newt was the Public Enemy #1 for the Treason Media and most of the decade was devoted to its campaign to destroy him. He was a “bombthrower” and so depicted on Time and Newsweek covers. He was the symbol of conservative thought and actually the one who produced the balanced budgets Clinton brags about as well as most of the productive elements of his presidency.

Most of the criticism of him as not being conservative enough is bunk. For those critics NO ONE is conservative enough.

This issue with Clinton was not adultery but LYING to a grand jury and to Congress. Adultery is not a crime perjury is very much a crime and worthy of impeachment and conviction.

You need to be very clear about this. It was NEVER about sex but violation of the oath of office. Clinton’s actions were directed at the very core of our system of government. He was not impeached because of adultery.

Cain is done so apparently there is more there than you acknowledge.

We didn’t, we had a non-professional, Ike, in the White House for most of the decade.

Ike wasn't exactly a non-professional. As a general officer in the US Army, he was as much (or better) a politician than most elected officials. You have to be, at that rank. In fact, per what I personally know of the breed, that's your primary function at that level.

Ike was also not just any General. He was the Supreme Allied Commander of the war, and as such, had the requisite leadership skills for the job of president. As you indicated in your previous post, no sooner did peace break out, than we had to begin fighting a cold war with the Soviets, which Ike again had to assume command of.

I probably could have worded my earlier response a bit better. What I meant to say, is that the 1950s were a time of peace and prosperity for the US. Compared to the decades before and after, it was damn near the most idyllic period in American history. In a time such as that, we could have suffered a president who didn't have the single-minded determination to rip asunder the unconstitutional constructs of the leftists who preceded him.

My whole point is, at this point in our history, we are sliding toward a precipice. If we don't stop that slide, we will fall, and we will break. It's going to take a "World Historic Individual (to put it in Hegelian terms)", to provide the sort of leadership to stop that slide, and to move us in the other direction.

I'm not convinced that Newt Gingrich is that person, although I do concede that he is head and shoulders above the current occupant of the White House.

The US has been sliding towards a precipice since the election of 1800.

Here’s another poll on the GOP race that just got started, so the numbers are very skewed right now. Everyone can forward it around to anyone planning on voting in the Republican GOP primary or caucus, in an attempt to get a larger and more representative voting base:
