Hot Air Presidential Survey Results for December posted at 4:06 pm on December 2, 2011 by Patrick Ishmael
For the second survey in a row, Newt Gingrich leads the pack with nearly 50% of the vote. Rick Perry has moved back into second place, coming in just ahead of Mitt Romney, who finishes third. Herman Cain has dropped from second place to fourth this after Cain led the survey only four weeks ago. Rick Santorum surges into fifth, nearly quadrupling his vote total from two weeks ago. Ron Paul and Michele Bachmann round out the main group.
Over 7500 ballots were cast this round. The graph to date is below.
Jumping into the internals a bit, who do Cain voters say theyll vote for if their candidate gets out? The top single vote getter turns out to be Gingrich. Top 5 are below.
And if Gingrich runs into trouble? Well, in terms of second picks that benefits
One last chart that I thinks worth noting and Ill get to the rest of the results. I was asked on Twitter several times yesterday why I included Palin in a survey question, now that shes out. This is why:
Palin is still a player in this race especially among the grassroots, and so speculation about what Palins kind words mean for Santorum shouldnt be taken lightly. Results follow:
The only chance of preserving the freedoms you speak of is by defeating Obama. Third parties will only contribute to his election. That is a simple reality.
You seem to be unaware that it is the People who ultimately allow parties to implement programs not some sinister secret society. They have provided what the People wanted no matter how unaffordable or stupid. Until the People have seen the light there will be no political solutions.
My guess is you have no political involvement with the GOP or you would see that it is made up of ordinary people not some “RINOs” or “establishment” but mainly those who care enough to do the political work involved in being a party. People like to blame results or ideas they don’t like on such forces but they are mythical. People get the political leadership they want or accept over the long haul.
Just re-read this thread. I am attacked for shouting the truth from the roof tops. So many refuse to listen.
With each passing election we have gone further and further down a socialist path.
Do these people understand that its not just because of democrats?
As a country we don’t need another Reagan. Hell, we can’t afford another Reagan. We need someone not willing to compromise with the left. We need a leader willing to fight for their ideas and ideals. Someone with a moral compass to guide them through these troubled waters, dragging kicking and screaming if need be, the left and right elites who have gotten us to where we a now.
Someone to expose those on the left and the right for what they are and for what they have done to this once great nation.
Will this leader please stand up? Our time is running out.
Perhaps, but he's got a penchant for cozying up to our domestic enemies, and adopting their cockamamie platforms, or lending his name to their agenda. The man talks a good game, but his record shows that he's an unreliable conservative, at best.
That's not what we need in a president, when we're teetering on the brink of the abyss.
I know how elections are conducted. Don’t accuse me of not participating in the process, I have before. Hitting the streets for the last republican president to win an election.
You live in a alternate universe if you think that the party elite have no bearing on how elections are conducted and who is allowed to be in the election.
Cains undoing was from the powerful elite in the republican party. The establishment if you will, who are afraid of their power being diminished by a real grass roots candidate. They vilified Reagan, they vilified Palin and they did it to Cain.
And the people are manipulated by a socialist press steered by those same elites on the left and the right.
Newt is infinitely preferable to the disaster in the White House since he is not a traitor or hater of everything which made this nation great. If he is the nominee I will vote for him. He was a great conservative as Speaker and has been through the media minefield so I am not worried about him. It is going to be him, Romney or Perry. I would vote for either of them.
Sadly, all that matters for many so-called conservatives, is that whoever wins the White House has an R on their back. Founding Principles be damned.
After Reagan, the establishment vowed to themselves that they'd never let that happen again. He was successful in giving far too much freedom and power back to The People. Horrors!
Although there's no shortage or qualified, well-placed conservative patriots who could do as good or better a job than Reagan did, they're systematically cleansed from the political system, and kept far away from the path that leads to the White House.
The fix appears to be in. I'm no longer sure that we can work within our established system to elevate the type of people that deserve to be our leaders. The whole darn system is rotten, through and through.
Cain’s problems are of his own making and his political inexperience not some mythical establishment.
At this point in the last election cycle McCain was down and said to be out, where was this “establishment” (supposedly supporting him) then? Candidates are chosen by the People based upon their relative appeal and strengths and weaknesses not the establishment’s seal of approval. Appealing new candidates win election all the time and unappealing old ones lose them.
Reagan had the support of plenty of those you would put in the “establishment”. That is just a word which really describes those who actually WIN at politics and who can then do something.
Yeah, now the “right” is steering the socialist press, LoL.
Agreed, but this isn't the 1950's, when we could afford to have a go-along-get-along professional political animal in the White House.
Our country is about to explode or implode, depending on which way you look at it. We need a leader of historic stature to take the helm right now. Anything less is a certain recipe for disaster.
Newt hasn't shown the sort of judgment and courage that I'm looking for in my next president. Far from it. The man can sing the tune, but he's too often danced to the beat of a different drummer for my comfort.
This thread is a perfect example of the so-called conservatives. They are mearly republicans and not conservatives.
Not really sure how any true conservative could support someone like newt with his adulterous ways. Sure all candidates have their warts but it doesn’t have to be one that is right smack in the middle of their face and the size of a cantalope.
Bingo.
Yes the elite republicans have steered the press. They have managed to drive the news cycles without a single shread of evidence ponied up by these women they managed to dig up.
You can go ahead and vote for Newt if you wish. I had complete disdain for Clinton because of his adulterous ways and I voiced it where ever and when ever I could. To support a man that has done the same thing simply because he has an R next to his name would be disengenious and immoral.
I stand behind your thinking 100%. I, and several others, have been trying to get other FReepers to understand this.... but no one seems to want to understand :/
Perry is running radio ads in Iowa saying, if the Congress doesnt balance the budget, he'll cut their pay in half and will demand a part-time Congress.
P-doofus can't even remember he's not in Texas anymore---where a dictatorship is allowed......even tolerated.
Perry's utter contempt for the process is appalling..... The US Constitution does not permit Presidents to rule Congress' activities.
============================================
Iowans wont easily forget Perry's emergence into the race----not spending a minute or a dime in the state, selfishly announcing his candidacy the day Michelle Bachman won the Iowa Straw Vote w/ 4000 votes, short-circuiting her momentum.
Perry actually believes Iowans cheered him on when he posed in front of Iowa banners----as if had actually won with 700 pathetic write-ins.
Hard to believe this loser was once the front-runner----but Perry's screwed up royally. His leadership sucks in order to have screwed up the position he was in.
Mega dittos. Why so many on FR don’t get you don’t advance conservatism by becoming more liberal is beyond me.
Remember when the krishnas declared the race over when Perry was in first place oh so briefly?
Pretty funny that ‘the most conservative person in the race’ can’t even beat Romney as a second choice.
Heh----yeah, that was funny..... in light of what's happened. Also a commentary on the Perrynistas lack of political smarts and lousy judgement.
Pretty funny that the most conservative person in the race cant even beat Romney as a second choice.
LOL----looks like voters aint buying the snake oil Perry's selling. LOL.
Problem is now days FR seems to be filled with Rino loving republicans.
This si why we have such a problem these days. Many republicans don’t care about conservative principles..Oh man, I fought with many here 3 years ago about John McCain. With each passing year it bcomes more and more of losing battle here it seems. This is why we are in the mess we are in in this country. We have been supporting and electing moderate and liberal republicans as leaders that can’t or won’t reverse the course taken but the extreme left....over time we have strayed far left in policies and culture.
We are doomed.
First two charts are telling.
Cain Supporters give an edge to Gingrich, but a good chunk go to Bachmann.
HOWEVER, if Gingirch stumbles, in a poll of supposedly 84% Conservatives/Very Conservatives, Romney comes out on top of Perry with everyone else far, far, behind. This tells me all I need to know about the typical Gingrich supporter-no principles, bandwagon player, ignorant.
This has played right into the Romney people’s/MSM hands now. Sometime around 17-19 December the REAL attacks on Gingrich will begin. And when Newt starts to sink, you’ll see a “defeatist” attitude from many people here saying they give up and will support Romney. Supports my theory that these early “Newtbots” that descended upon FR in November who were eager for the Cain train to derail are in reality closet Romney supporters.
There’s only a few ways to stop the supposed “inevitable”:
(1) Sarah Palin MUST enter the race OR endorse one of the REAL conservative candidates (Bachmann, Cain, Santorum)
(2) Real Conservatives need to stick to their principles and say “to hell with the media”. Bachmann, Santorum, and Cain should be polling much higher than single digits, and in a supposed poll made up of 84% conservative/very conservative, should have more than 50% support in the poll. These are the “REAL” conservatives in the race. Screw the “IT” factor everyone keeps talking about, this isn’t American Idol for ******** sake. Everybyody talks on the forums and talk radio how they like Bachmann and Santorum, but complain they can’t “win”. Says who? If the Tea Party and Conservatives actually vote for them, then they’ll win.
As Rush always says, conservatism works every time it's tried.
The corollary to that is, liberalism fails every time it's tried.
