Republicans won't need to put a candidate like Sarah Palin on the presidential ticket this year, veteran party strategist Charlie Black says, because the candidates are already conservative enough.
Asked at National Journal's Election Preview on Tuesday whether he thought the party might name a vice presidential candidate like Sarah Palin, whose addition to the GOP 2008 presidential ticket excited conservatives -- but also turned off independent voters -- Black argued such a pick won't be necessary given the current crop of presidential candidates.
"We don't have any moderates running," Black said. "I don't think there will be any need to do philosophical balance."
People like Charlie Black can go straight to hell. I’m sure he will find like-minded friends there.
The candidates are all conservative?
Romney?
Huntsman?
Seriously?
You can’t fix the way this man’s mind is working folks. Here is a prime example of someone who is a member of the political class and arena who is completely disconnected from the average Republican voter. He is either intentionally lying to alter the course of the election, or he has lost the ability to judge a person’s character in the real world. Either way, he’s another example of why we need to vote everyone out of Washington and start over. He thinks this way and has advised almost every Republican presidential candidate for over three decades.
And he calls all of this year’s candidates conservative.
See the problem? Whoever he is advising is hearing this from an “expert”. Hear it enough and it starts to sink in.
If his bio on Wikipedia can be trusted, he worked in the Reagan campaign... but he has been involved in presidential campaigns from Goldwater all the way to McCain in 2008. That’s active in the political arena since 1964... since he was in high school. An expert at the game perhaps but he has never stepped away from it.
I hate saying this of a fellow Republican, but he IS out of touch to say this in public. And beyond that, simply wrong in his assessment.
Black is a RINO. He worked for HW Bush and McCRap
duh? Mitt Romney???
This 'strategist' must be the STUPIDEST idiot in the world!
Can he be run out of the GOP on a rail?
Charlie Black, campaign adviser to the Republican presidential hopeful John McCain.
OH, Gee, THAT explains why he is dumber than a box of rocks!@#$%
Palin has done so much harm to her “name” by leading her supporters on for months on end (”Game on, Mr. President”) only to say she can’t run because Track and Willow voted “no”.
I know, I was one. She is done. Finished. Not to be trusted.
A "moderate" to Black would be someone more to the left of himself, thus "no need for a conservative" as there are simply no "moderates" in GOP race.
Charlie Black is a liar. Independent does not equal moderate. Moderate does equal liberal. And liberals did vote for Obama.
It’s true that we don’t have moderates running. Romney is a liberal.
...actually I partially agree with that.
If we can put a REAL CONSERVATIVE at the top of the ticket, then Palin is not needed nearly as much as she was in 2008.
But with Romney/Perry still running, we still may not end up with a real conservative.
Too a Socialist like this Putz Romney looks conservative.
I finally bought Sarah Palin’s “Undefeated” bundled with her audio book version of “Going Rogue” this week. I’m mad all over again about the way she was treated.
Republican National Committee: Listen very closely, lean in closer so I can whisper in your ear....
YOU F’N BASTARDS WILL NEVER GET ANOTHER DOLLAR OUT OF ME IF YOU DON’T BACK REAL ACTUAL CONSERVATIVES, REFORMERS, AND SARAH PALINS!!! QUIT CALLING ME UNTIL YOU SHOW ME YOU’RE SERIOUS ABOUT SUPPORTING CANDIDATES WE WANT!!!! IF YOU KEEP SHOVING MCCAINS, ROMNEYS, AND HUNTSMANS DOWN OUR THROATS, WE’RE LEAVING.
Oh, I hope that wasn’t too ambiguous. Why do I have to argue with Republican fund raisers? Shouldn’t I be arguing with Democrats? What the FRACK?
Maybe he is just letting the cat out of the bag on the internals that the moderates are toast.
The traditional loyalty order goes:
1) God
2) Family
3) Country
I'm disappointed she is not running, but putting her family ahead of her country shows integrity and God will honor that (regardless of whether you honor that or not).
That first sentence of the excerpt tells me this guy is one of the GOP elitist RINO’s that is, and has been instrumental redefining Conservatism to the Left.
Their goal is to muddy the waters with their version of Conservatism of which all true Conservatives find abhorent, and know is BS.
Independents, and others that stay arms length from politics until election day are subject to believing the RINO BS version of Conservatism, and voting for the likes of Romney.
This tactic is blatant with the RINO’s. It’s one of the reasons the RINO’s are so afraid of the TEA Party IMO as the TEA Party is a threat to their ability to continue to muddy those waters.
Romney and Huntsman aren’t Moderates; they aren’t conservatives; they are liberals.
Romney and Huntsman are too liberal to be considered moderate.
