During Perry's Tenure in Texas, Spending in Texas grew from about 49 Billion a year, to over 90 Billion a year. Texas budgets every 2 years, to the following show the budgets for both Bi-annums. Divide by two for average yearly spending.
Texas 2010-2011 Budget 182 Billion
http://sunshinereview.org/index.php/Texas_state_budget
Texas 2000-2001 Budget was ~98 Billion and is available at
http://www.lbb.state.tx.us/Bill_76/Bill-76-4_Conference_Summary_0599.pdf
In other words CLOSE to 100% Growth in spending. (from 49 B to 91 B)
During this time, the Census says Texas grew from 20 Million (2000 Census) to 25 Million (2010 Census). Thats a growth of 25 Percent.
So much for Perry's Fiscal Conservative Credentials.
Federal Budget grew 5-8% during same time.
So are you now saying that it’s NOT ok for the federal gov, but when Rick Perry does it in Texas, it’s “good”?
You don’t know much about Texas do you? Texans have a different mentality. The Texas depression of the 80’s when oil hit 16 bucks a barrel was an interesting study of the Texas mindset. Texans hibernated during the dry spell. Some even got down to their last million. (running joke) Retail stores became museums.
The State survived and so did the people. Then things started to turn around.
Now we pay the same for gas that the rest of the country does, but the drought is driving food prices thru the roof.
I only buy local or united states grown products so that doesn’t help.
The point is that Texans learned from the 80’s oil disaster to make plans for rainy days.
Perry has done a great job in his stewardship of Texas.
I have no doubt that he will do the same for America.
Ask yourself do you want a Captain of a ship that has hit raging seas that says keep all of the sails at full mast.
Or a Captain that says lower the sails, batten down the hatches and start bailing.
“It cost Texas a fortune to host so many Katrina evacuees”
Don’t forget Rita, Ike, and the major draught in Texas
And that is exactly what I’m going to say to my Cali lib coworkers; if he increased spendng that much then I’m sure you will vote for him since that’s what you are calling for!
My family was in Texas before Texas was a Country, or a State.
We were part of the spanish land grant immigration.
So I KNOW Texas.
also know Rick Perry is big government, big spending, one-world, open border, slick politician.
Captain Gardasil
LOL
There is a reason Perry runs near the bottom of EVERY Texas poll of Potential Presidential candidates.
We know his words do not match his actions.
Probably because the Houston Chronicle does the poll in the fifth ward. Perry was re-elected by a large margin just last year. That poll was the one that counted
Reagan would be a RINO to some of these folks.
Your debt clock is showing revenue increasing and spending decreasing...... So lets see where it comes in at the end of the 12 month cycle. Your 40 billion is where it stands at the moment not at the final end of the budget.
Interesting, I noticed on TX debt clock almost 1 in 5 are on food stamps. I better check my State, Ohio.
2. (Top down) Perry's not responsible for federal “mandated” spending. Many programs are pushed federally and the money goes to the state which then manages these programs (Department of education, unemployment benefit extensions, health and human services, WIC, etc).
3. (Bottom up) Perry's not responsible for local/city/county taxes levied on people. If Dallas county (Historically screwed up and corrupt) can't get their act together, that's hardly the governors doing. Likewise if Collin County and some city decides to raise their property taxes, that is within their purview and not a consequence of a governor who's advocating this.
Where Perry has influence and control (His span of power/control), his “actions” show the antithesis of that which this article attempts to portray him as.
As the elections get closer, it is evident that among the Republican / Conservative ranks, the number of “hit jobs” on political competitors in these forums and media begins to increase.
You sound like the usual Texas Democrats. Spout the same line while all evidence is to the contrary.
Oh, just about all of it. By the way, did you know he used to be a Democrat, too?!!!!!!
Exactly!
These sort of articles are not there to make us any wiser. They are simply there to attack a political competitor.
Let concentrate on putting more TP members in both chambers to keep what ever RINO gets elected.
That is our reality.
That’s the ticket. Get a larger majority in the house, and take back the senate with REAL conservatives. Although the senate may be a lost cause even with a majority. There just aren’t any real conservatives in the debate society
“Debt” is not at all the same thing as “Deficit”.
Debt is borrowed money, which is charged interest every day that it remains borrowed. Deficit is shortfall of current income as related to current expenditures. At any given time, there is also the cushion provided by “cash on hand”, which may or may not be subject to fiduciary trust, but shows up as money in the bank, so to speak.
“Looks like Perrys smarter than BeeBrain after all.”
Careful, we don’t want to do a disservice to bees. Here is what you are most likely dealing with:

NO wonder your so pissed off.
Want money from your ancesters land. Seems everyone wants something for nothing.

The 500 descendants want state lawmakers to amend the state Unclaimed Property Act to give them access to unclaimed royalty proceeds from those ancestral lands. The descendants and their legal teams met Sunday in San Antonio to plan their strategy for righting what they regard as an injustice dating back more than a century and a half.

Sor Juana’s Remains to be Authenticated Through DNAThe royalties originally paid by oil companies have been sitting unclaimed in the Texas comptroller’s office, the San Antonio Express-News reported in its Sunday edition. Attorneys for descendants say the comptroller has at least $200 million in unclaimed royalties, but information they have obtained through the state Freedom of Information Act show more than $561 million is unclaimed, the newspaper reported.
The ancestors of hundreds of families in Starr, Hidalgo, Jim Wells and other South Texas counties received the land grants on what is now the Texas side of the Rio Grande.
Owners of the original accounts didn’t specify heirs in their wills before they died, La Porte lawyer Eileen McKenzie Fowler told the newspaper.
Fowler, who represents families in the quest, said oil companies have not kept records or have disclosed little to no information on royalty payments due the families. So far, no one has received any royalty payments, she said.
Meanwhile, although Texas cannot spend the unclaimed funds, it does keep the interest they generate and places the proceeds in its general fund, she said.
