Sarah Palin takes her bus to Iowa; Oh look, it's the Ames Straw Poll weekend
The Los Angeles Times' Top of the Ticket ^ | August 10, 2011 | Andrew Malcolm

Posted on 08/10/2011 11:48:04 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

At least the Iowa bus business looks good in this sour nationwide economy.

Michele Bachmann is moving around her birth state in one. Next week, President Obama will pass through Iowa briefly (and Illinois and Minnesota) on his next talking-at-Americans-about-jobs outing before his next vacation.

Now comes word that Sarah Palin will bring her famous, extremely patriotic "One Nation" bus tour to the Heartland this week, allegedly for a visit to the Iowa State Fair, possibly Friday. The fair opens Thursday with a Mitt Romney speech competing with the annual carved cow in butter. Don't fail to miss that.

If you don't need to sweat within immense crowds amid the smells of livestock and anything you can imagine being fried, C-SPAN will broadcast the state fair's entire list of political speakers from Romney at the open to Bachmann at the close Friday. They're even letting one Democrat speak.

Janet Jackson will be there too, on Aug. 21, presumably with a functioning wardrobe.

Palin's not scheduled to speak at the fair. Palin doesn't need no schtinking fair to speak. She's got her Facebook page with nearly 3.25 million fans listening. And her podium over at Fox.

And the political celebrity can pretty much set up wherever she wants to park her political bus, and the crowd and media will flock over, even though she has yet to declare her intentions about a presidential candidacy.....

How many offices have you run for and won? How many candidates from the right have you propelled into office? If you can't match Palin’s record... you have no authority to question her tactics. You are however... most welcome to your own opinion.

At Tea Party rally in Waukee, Iowa, on Saturday, September 3: Sarah Palin.

That should tell you alot about who's listening to the Tea Party and who's not.

I believe Mrs. Palin is scheduled to give a speech in Waukee IOWA on Labor Day weekend. Coincidently, I'll be there (having driven over from Madison) to listen to her.

One can never tell what one may hear at one of Mrs. Palin's speeches....except to say that it will be exactly what needs to be said, it will be the truth, and it will be exactly what I want to hear.

The charter bus business should be great as I’m sure Paul and maybe a few others have got them leased for the weekend to transport votes to the straw poll.

I agree, it's tough to wait. However I think her waiting is brilliant. Romney's already losing steam on his own as the media shifts attention to Bachmann and Petty (oh, perry, yes...Bush Jr...got it.) Bachmann is a placeholder, IMHO. She needs executive experience or she could end up being as fun a ride as obungle, who couldn't find his way out of a paper bag.

Anyway, with the other candidates diminshed, Sarah can step in with the momentum. The media attacks, and Sarah gives a few "there they go again" speeches enduring the public to her cause and winning sympathy for her because of the Nazi-like media attacks.

The late entry means she peaks close to about a year out, just in time for the election.

If she truly does enter the race, she'll be the 800 pound gorilla in the room verus a bunch of bananas.

Usually this stuff is planned in advance.

Did you miss the previous bus tour in late May to early June?

Besides, just because we don't know about it doesn't mean that it wasn't planned in advance.

She’s running yet she’s not running. How long is she going to play this?

For as long as she possibly can. Palin is not playing the Presidential game. She is just "playing" her supporters like a cheap fiddle and her supporters keep "Waiting for Godot".

Palin's visits to Iowa, including one in June and one planned for Sept. 3, have stoked speculation she is eyeing a 2012 presidential bid, although she has done none of the groundwork there others have.

I can see people pledging themselves to other candidates because Palin is going about this the wrong way and it will backfire.

Don't worry about Palin. Things are going exactly as planned and things are going extremely well.

Palin's focus is not to be elected President. Unlike her fanatical supporters, she is politically savvy and knows that her support is a mile deep but an inch wide. The abysmal box office of "The Undefeated" confirmed that. Once the very limited supply of loyal supporters was tapped out after Week 1 at each theater location, the movie crashed and burned by Week 2.

Here's the reality: The Undefeated debuted to $65,132 at ten locations over the July 15-17 weekend. This past weekend, its release grew to 14 locations, but business plummeted 62 percent to $24,664, averaging $1,762 per site. That put its total at just $101,382 in ten days, which means it's sold an estimated 13,000 tickets. ... (Undefeated is not to be confused with Sarah's Key, a foreign language movie that opened to $115,708 at five locations this past weekend.) ... To put these numbers into further perspective: The Undefeated's ten theaters on opening weekend yielded 159 showings. Using the current average ticket price of $7.86, that means the movie played to an estimated 52 people per average showing or at about one-fifth to one-quarter capacity. In the movie's second weekend, which had 211 showings, the per-showing average attendance dropped to 15.

Palin's current profession is that of a very well paid entertainment celebrity whose main focus is maximizing her personal income and Bristol's income in the business of Reality TV shows, book sales, paid speeches, paid appearances and paid interviews.

Due to the "Equal Time" provision of Section 315 of the Communication Act, TV networks cancel the contracts of employees that are serious Presidential candidates. Yet, Palin and FOX News continue a very cozy relationship that is very lucrative for both of them:

1.) Sarah Palin spends a week here and a week there pretending to run for President. Such a fake campaign does not trigger Section 315.

2.) FOZ News hypes each of her fake campaigns.

3.) At the end of each fake campaign, Palin's loyal supporters and the curious Palin non-supporters then drive the FOX ratings as Palin appears in an "exclusive FOX interview of Sarah Palin" where one FOX employee (Palin) is being paid to be interviewed by another FOX employee that is paid to toss Palin cream puff questions.

4.) Palin cashes her paychecks and FOX News gets their ratings bonanza.

5.) Rinse and repeat for as long as the game keeps generating money for Fox and Palin.

Since Palin "has done none of the groundwork" that other candidates have done for a serious Presidential run (lining up paid staff, lining up paid campaign managers, lining up serious donors, etc.) this repeated charade can only last so long. At that point, Palin will find some noble-sounding excuse not to run, will endorse the strongest candidate in the field whose name is not "Romney" and will then keep trying to milk her celebrity status as long as she possibly can as a "Kingmaker".

You are just thinking about this all wrong. Allow me to help you. Governor Palin was the party’s selection as Vice-Presidential candidate in the last election. She is the leader of the party now. We have an assortment of 12 old washed-up career politicians, losers of their last campaigns, politicians who refuse to resign their current position to make a full-time run, zero-gravitas, ex-democrats and libertarians etc. I wouldn’t want to be associated with anyone in that gang of 12 either.

Open your mind. It is you who is thinking about this the wrong way, and Governor Palin will be successful.

We rarely answer our house phone but have been recently as I don't mind taking poll calls but Michelle Bachman is over doing it with the robocalls. I had 3 in one day.

TV is a whole different matter, we watch a lot of it. Right now I'm waiting to see our state chairman, Matt Strawn on MSNBC. I knew we have MSNBC but didn't even know where it is on our dial so had to look for it. I found it and I'm waiting to see our chairman. I like him--he is competent.

I don't know much about Iowa, and this question is off-topic for this thread, but I can't help asking:

What are the chances of Wisconsin-like flash mobs showing up on the scene of the Iowa State Fair the way they did at the Wisconsin State Fair?

Reagan got in in November, Sarah has plenty os time, if its good enough for Reagan, its good enough for Palin.
Absolutely true. Any talk about "too late for Sarah" is total BS.

What if she is there to kick off Rick Perry for President.
It's a possibility. It sure will shock a lot of people here in FR if it happens. I don't expect it to happen but I recognize it as a definite possibility.

I think she will run as well. She must know that if she does not and strung so many people along with the hopes that she would run and she does not, well her political career would probably be over. People don’t forget things like that.
I think there's more of a chance that she will run than that she won't run but I also think she could decide to back Perry or decide to stay out and not back anyone until someone wins the nomination.

As for your statement that not running would ruin her career, that's as much total BS as those who say she has to declare this weekend (or whatever) or she's out.

YOU may suddenly drop your support for Sarah Palin as a person, as a leader, as a spokesperson for Freedom and Liberty in America, but I certainly won't. And neither will any else, not anyone who truly loves her for who she is.

So cool the threats, ok? No one needs your threats and they aren't interesting to read.

why she would be going there on such short notice.

Short notice according to what standard?

Usually this stuff is planned in advance.

Well it is in advance of when she is going. Besides - no one has any idea when she planned it. Next she will be called a media whore because she told them at all./s

How many offices have you run for and won?

As far as Federal office is concerned, all three of us have run for one less than Sarah Palin and all three of us have won exactly as many as Sarah Palin has won.

If you can't match Palin’s record... you have no authority to question her tactics.

At least, LibLieSlayer, mrspeel has the common sense to know that something does not pass the "smell test". You, on the other hand, are the fiddle that is being played.

See Post 29.

How many candidates from the right have you propelled into office?

You mean, like Senator Christine O'Donnell and Senator Joe Miller?

After 2 years of far-Left Obama, conservative candidates won in conservative states and would have won with or without Sarah Palin.

Even after 2 years of far-Left Obama, a self-described "Marxist" was elected U.S. Senator from Delaware due to Sarah Palin's "propelling" of an obviously unqualified candidate. A sure GOP Senate victory in Delaware was turned into a Christine O'Donnell electoral bloodbath as many of us warned would happen.

Even in her own State of Alaska, Sarah Palin could not "propell" her candidate into the U.S. Senate. Sarah Palin's candidate ended up losing the Senate seat to a WRITE-IN candidate.

None of us have ever played a single down in the NFL. However, after decades of watching NFL football, at least some of us know when a player is running the wrong way.

Jim Marshall's Wrong Way Run
