The skeletons in Rick Perry's closet

Texas governor Rick Perry looks, at the moment, like the man many Republicans have been waiting for. Perry has yet to enter the presidential race - he looks likely to do so in August - but he is already polling close to ostensible frontrunner Mitt Romney.

The buzz around Perry isn't just driven by the polling. It's grounded in the fact that Perry could potentially bridge the divide between the Tea Party conservatives and the party establishment. To borrow a phrase from Perry's predecessor in the Texas governor's office, who went on to bigger things: Perry could be a uniter, not a divider, that the GOP is desperate to find.

"I don’t believe in ad hominem attacks

. Humblegunner, I will point out that your post (to which this is a reply) is thoroughly warped and is akin to the product of a sociopath.

Humblegunner speaks of the blogger forum, but persecutes posters in it, along with JimRob’s troll posse.

So if calling people "sociopaths" and "trolls" isn't ad hominem, then just what is?

I have my own opinion as to what's "warped." It includes those who would callously use the good offices of JimRob and contributing FReepers to push purloined material, rehashed stories and illiterate drivel under the guise of "new media" and in doing so cheapen and demean the FreeRepublic audience, while seeking their own self-agrandisement.

I, and many others of those you have characterized as "trolls" have good friends among the FreeRepublic bloggers. Those who share their material putting the message first and their hit count second have our admiration and support.

The pimps we could do without, and FreeRepublic could only be stronger and more credible for their absence.

Oh, by the way - I suppose “resident thug in chief” is not an ad hominem attack either?

Gov. Perry chose to bypass the legislature and on Feb. 2, 2007, he issued an executive order making Texas the first state in the country requiring all sixth-grade girls to receive the three-shot vaccination series (which cost about $120 per shot).

...

The controversy over Perry’s decision deepened as it came to light that his former chief of staff was a lobbyist for Merck and that his chief of staff’s mother-in-law, Rep. Dianne White Delisi, was the state director of an advocacy group bankrolled by Merck to push legislatures across the country to put forward bills mandating the Gardasil vaccine for preteen girls.

...

Just six weeks after Perry put pen to paper, the Texas House rebuked him on March 14, 2007, passing HB 1098, overturning his executive order by a vote of 119-21. The Senate followed suit the following month by a vote of 30-1.

...

On May 8, the day the law went into effect, Perry held a press conference surrounded by women touched by cervical cancer. He bemoaned the tenor of a debate that he asserted had been “hijacked by politics and posturing,” and blamed future cervical cancer deaths on those who opposed his mandate — many of whom were fellow Republicans.

...

And in fact, two years later the National Vaccine Information Center issued a report raising serious questions over the harmful side effects of the drug.... an editorial on Gardasil in the Journal of the American Medical Association declared that “serious questions regarding the overall effectiveness of the vaccine” needed to be answered and that more long-term studies were called for.

That’s an interesting post.

Are you sure you weren’t trying to ping someone else?

Your 39 makes me wonder what kind of dominion Governor Perry envisions.

He does a good job of talking the talk; but never walks the walk. Oh, he will bring stuff up even pretend he is actually doing something; but it’s just a bunch of smoke and mirrors. You want another Arnold; elect him.

How old were you in 89...Perry was 41-42

And...no....count me as one of those who thinks folks who change that late likely do it to get elected and are not culture warriors

And if you ain’t a social conservative then one is just a RINO for practical reasons

Soft on borders...Texas goes majority Mexican..then good luck

And if they fall...we fall...we cannot win without california and texas both

I was 32 in 89 and had been hard right for 9 years by then..and never ran for office

“Also pinging the one who seems to be FR’s resident thug in chief, humblegunner.”

Just curious...why did you immediately ping Jim & John, the AdMin and Humblegunner?

Were you spoiling for a fight or what?

Seems to me you started this thread and then asked for trouble.

Smells like a setup, to me.

Yea but Reagan went GOP like Dixicrats did

Because the Democrats changed....not Reagan...they left him as he said

Perry claims he changed...the Dems went to hell under LBJ

25 YEARS BEFORE PERRY SWITCH

He is a notch better than Mitt but not by much

Once again we get a milquetoast conservative with him

Right now we need a real social stalwart

If that husband is who I think he is, he’s possibly the only person I find more difficult to look at than The Usurper.

Between those two, I’d rather watch a porn flick starring Helen Thomas and Henry Waxman. (But then that would require her to like Jews and him to like things that pretend to be women.)

It is descriptive and classifies appropriately.
