Could Republicans Self-Destruct in 2012? (It's Mitt or lose, according to this jackwagon)

Sahil Kapur has a good piece up at TNR about the Tea Party’s plans to go after Mitt Romney because he’s not the “rock-solid fiscal conservative” they want. According to Kapur, FreedomWorks, the Dick Armey-led Tea Party organization, is threatening to “uneash part of its $25 million treasure trove in an attempt to sink his candidacy.” Meanwhile, Joe Miller, the Tea Party candidate who took on Lisa Murkowski in Alaska and lost last November, has his own political action committee dedicated to going after Mitt Romney where it matters most: New Hampshire.

Last November, the Tea Party swept into state houses and the House of Representatives, but radical candidates like Sharon Angle, who crowded our more moderate Republicans for their party’s nomination, cost Republicans control of the U.S. Senate. The lesson seemed to be that in more local races the Tea Party was a Republican God-send, but for national office, it was often a curse. Now we’re talking about the presidency—the stakes are even higher. Romney is Republicans’ best hope at unseating Obama in a tough economic climate, and the Tea Party wants to repeat its mistakes and make sure he doesn’t get the nomination.

But FreedomWorks told Kapur they aren’t too worried about a repeat of last November:

“I don’t think we want to get stuck with another disappointment as a Republican president. If the guy at the top of the ticket goes against the free market, goes against what we believe in, then we’re not really motivated by just getting a Republican in office.”

This is bad news for the Republican Party, or at least traditional party elites, who really do just want to get Obama out of the White House and install a Republican It will be hard enough to battle Obama next fall, and even harder if the Tea Party puts its money into defeating Republicans’ best candidate.

That’s rich. The establishment wants us to shut up and follow their lead, while they kiss rat ass.

Angle wasn’t radical, she just came across that way. She was a fine conservative, just a really bad candidate.

And she ALMOST WON.

There is a good chance Chris Matthews will have a tinkle down his leg if Romney wins.

Romney's not ANY kind of conservative.

I'd much rather gain the Senate by a large margin and see some gains in the House and lose the White House than to see this evil impostor elected.

It’s not “Mitt or lose”, it’s “Mitt AND lose”.

With Mitt, we lose either way. If he’s our best chance, then this country is doomed.

Another liberal in the WH that believes in government run HC, GW and federal mandates? He can’t win. Too many of us are simply not going along with swapping a socialist for a communist.

Nice bringing up Angle, but no mention of Rand Paul, Allen West, or Marco Rubio?

I’m not voting for Mitt. Not for any money. And I know I’m not alone.

Romney could do well in the Northeast and very well in Utah but that's about it.

Last time Romney spent a lot of money in Iowa and lost badly to Huckabee.

I don't see how anything has changed for Romney.

Then when you consider Palin coming in, Romney prospects look much worse when there is a woman knocking the crap out of him.

LoL!

And to this very day, there are fools here trying to tell us that Sarah isn't running...

Think Republicans have a better chance of self-destructing if Mitt IS the nominee than if he isn’t.

Two really moderate, RINO craptastic presidential nominees in a row is not something we ought to be looking forward to.

I voted for Ross Perot in ‘92. Clinton was the beneficiary.

I’m torn about abstaining or 3rd partying it again- trust it doesn’t come to that.

SP all the way.

He spent a fortune in both IA and NH. He led the polls in both for months before the election and when voting came around, he lost both. Hopefully, Sarah will kill his presidential hopes once and for all.

Yeah I vote we support who ever wins the primaries or lose. That bridge is a long way off. I must say I’m not a huge Palin fan but I’m looking forward to the movie and she more than has a chance to win me over. Michelle Bachman looks better all the time and the best thing about both of these women is the more the left tries to pick them apart the better they look. I like the way the race is shaping up and I know its not a happy thing on the left.
