Analysis: Palin takes own tack in presidential prelude

If Sarah Palin is going to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, she is sure going about it her own way.

A conservative TV idol and household name, the former Alaska governor sees little need to behave like a traditional presidential candidate.

Palin has been nowhere to be seen recently in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, while potential rivals scour in search of staff and supporters.

Instead, Palin has relied on her appearances on Fox News and often caustic comments on her Facebook page to rally support for conservative causes and perhaps prepare the ground for a run against Democratic President Barack Obama.

"She's certainly feisty and doesn't think that the normal rules and the normal conventional wisdom apply to her," said Republican strategist Charlie Black.

A relative unknown who burst onto the national scene as John McCain's running mate in 2008, Palin is adored by millions of conservative Republicans.

But she is a polarizing figure who is behind in national polls compared with other possible candidates like Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.

Last week, Palin visited India and Israel to beef up her foreign policy credentials and dispel criticism she would be a lightweight on the world stage.

She skipped an opportunity to speak to conservatives in Washington recently at a conference that most would-be Republican presidential contenders used to test the waters.

Unlike the others in the Republican field, she is not advanced in planning, saying there is plenty of time to organize a campaign if she wants to do so.

"I don't think that there needs to be a rush still to get out there as a declared candidate," she said in New Delhi. "I think there's still plenty of time...

If she runs she will do it her way, and if not, she won’t.

And the fact is, no one here knows what she’s thinking or what she’s going to do, and none of us will be the first to know either.

Well Pissant might be ;-)

She wanted a no-fly zone, just like Obama. And she wouldn't rule out ground troops, just like McCain. It's the ignorance of Obama matched with the false bravado of McCain.

And no, I'm not trolling. Just helping get the word out about her idiotic position on Libya. There are plenty here who aren't aware of it.

I’m not voting for Romney.

I have no problems with her as a person. I don’t like her stances on this issue at all. She has hired neocons to advise her. No thanks.

Been there, done that. It hasn’t worked out well so far, no reason to believe it would work in the future. Well, not without an incredible loss of blood and money with no real return except to give an advantage to those we cannot trust.

“You are not interested in what foreign policy would be, but she already stated it at the India Today Conclave.”

I’m a huge Palin fan and will be an early volunteer in her campaign if/when she announces.

But I totally disagree with her stance on Libya, and I think you’ll find that lots of Palin supporters are with me. She’s spouting the old America-polices-the-world doctrine that won’t work anymore. The Cold War is over and it’s time to wake up to the reality of the world now.

C’mon, Huck, you have to do better than that. Since pissant got the zot you're expected to pick up the slack and do double duty and you're failing miserably.

Of course she’s a neocon. When was the last time a non-neocon was on any GOP ticket?

I like Palin.

Alot. She's right on darn near every issue, a Western semi-(l)ibertarian in the Goldwater mold...my favorite political persuasion.

However, when she came out with a advocacy of intervention in Libya she lost my vote. It would have been different if she had come out in favor of an assassination of Daffy Duck without any real intervention in the civil war there...but she jumped the shark on this one and showed herself a neophyte simply opposed to Obama.

That, and the fact she has not put a R E A L and specific proposal in front of us to fix the fiscal mess.

Platitudes about freeing the private sector and opposition to Obamacare...sure. She's there.

But what about something SPECIFIC?

A lot of folks compare her to Reagan in how the press dismisses her. That's true.

But everyone should remember: When Reagan ran he put forth very specific POLICIES in addition to political platitudes.

Still, I like her.

"She's certainly feisty and doesn't think that the normal rules and the normal conventional wisdom apply to her," said Republican strategist Charlie Black.

Whether Palin runs or not, this is a glaring example of why she is so disliked by the GOP establishment. She is not playing by their rules, in their time lines and does not indicate being intimidated of or by their acceptance of her. She is an equal "in your face" conservative to the Socialists and Republicans as well.

Republicans are equally, if not more so, guilty of the fiscal dilemma our nation finds itself and it is refreshing to find a political figure of national stature that is not spouting the party line that has gotten us into this God awful mess.

If she decides to run, which I personally doubt but if she does, the challenges facing her from enemies and traitors among her 'supporters' will be extreme.

I noticed what happened to that fellow. And, I must say, while I disagreed with him about Sarah, I'm not in favor of this banishment "zot" stuff. I think he was beginning to warm up to Sarah toward the end. At least she certainly captured his attention.

You're right about Sarah. She is gonna do what she is gonna do when she wants to do it and in a manner of her choosing. Nobody can claim to own Sarah Palin.

Why would people donate to her without her even saying if she will run or not?

“What’s a real disappointment is the tendency of PDSers like you to slice and dice her quotes to make them sound like anything you want.”

Instead of calling names, why don’t you address the points I made and show me (with evidence) how I am wrong?

Otherwise you just sound like a liberal.

I'm almost certain "she is advanced in planning" -- Reuters just isn't involved in her planning process.

"Instead of calling names, why don’t you address the points I made and show me (with evidence) how I am wrong?"

I've been around this place a very long time.

Folks come and go.

You'll find those who "go" are often those who react emotionally instead of with reason.

Eventually they embarrass themselves.

That siad, please understand their hearts are in the right place...generally.

often caustic comments on her Facebook page...

Caustic as in telling the truth and not letting the LSM tell lies that go unanswered. Caustic - ha, what a joke!
