If Sarah Palin is going to run for the Republican presidential nomination in 2012, she is sure going about it her own way.
A conservative TV idol and household name, the former Alaska governor sees little need to behave like a traditional presidential candidate.
Palin has been nowhere to be seen recently in the early voting states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, while potential rivals scour in search of staff and supporters.
Instead, Palin has relied on her appearances on Fox News and often caustic comments on her Facebook page to rally support for conservative causes and perhaps prepare the ground for a run against Democratic President Barack Obama.
"She's certainly feisty and doesn't think that the normal rules and the normal conventional wisdom apply to her," said Republican strategist Charlie Black.
A relative unknown who burst onto the national scene as John McCain's running mate in 2008, Palin is adored by millions of conservative Republicans.
But she is a polarizing figure who is behind in national polls compared with other possible candidates like Mitt Romney and Mike Huckabee.
Last week, Palin visited India and Israel to beef up her foreign policy credentials and dispel criticism she would be a lightweight on the world stage.
She skipped an opportunity to speak to conservatives in Washington recently at a conference that most would-be Republican presidential contenders used to test the waters.
Unlike the others in the Republican field, she is not advanced in planning, saying there is plenty of time to organize a campaign if she wants to do so.
"I don't think that there needs to be a rush still to get out there as a declared candidate," she said in New Delhi. "I think there's still plenty of time...

These are untraditional times. We’ve got an unAmerican, Kenyan Marxist in the White House and Washington has more communists running the joint than Moscow ever had. Palin is doing what it will take for her to win. She knows what she’s doing.
Palin, who all along has stated that NATO and our allies should look at establishing a no-fly zone reiterated that fact to Judge Jeanine. Certainly a no fly zone, Palin said. I hate to say, jeez, more troops on the ground. You know send more of our brave young men and women over there in Libya. When yes, 41 years of Gadhafi. Hes got to go.
Charlie Black is part of the McCain faction who was against Palin, and was described by Chris Matthews as a “friend of the show” — Matthews’ MSNBC show, Countdown. Black is nothing but another Ruling Class media hack with the long knives out for Sarah Palin.
But she's doing something very good: she's acting like the winner, and not sullying herself by engaging in useless mud slinging fights that are part of the early rounds. Why waste time letting eventual drop outs score points off of her? There's been no breakouts, with the possible exception of her likely running mate Michelle Bachmann.
President Palin will strike when the time is right.
And you're a blithering...
Palin’s foreign policy—part Obama, part McCain.
I just cannot agree with her remarks on this. I could never do that.
Sorry
She better not sit too long, that didn’t work at all well for Fred Thompson and it ruined Giuliani almost over night. Being popular on paper only, is a sure loss. Giuliani thought he could sit out the early primaries and win big from Florida on. Wrong idea!
She needs to get her feet planted firmly on the ground early if she hopes to compete.
“You know send more of our brave young men and women over there in Libya”
So, she is a neocon.
That’s a real disappointment.
If that's what you think, you do not understand her at all. Admit it: you are just trying to troll and get some action going. You are not interested in what foreign policy would be, but she already stated it at the India Today Conclave. Read it, if you really want to learn what she thinks.
I suspect you don't; you're just trolling, like usual.
What’s a real disappointment is the tendency of PDSers like you to slice and dice her quotes to make them sound like anything you want.
She is unique and that is why she is so loved and respected.
This may also be a contributing factor for why she is holding back. According to the article, she was not getting much financial support from Big Corporations. Oil companies among them. Her main supporters were ordinary people and those who frequent her Face Book page but are generally small contributors.
Too late for her to be early. If she runs, she probably will have similar results to Fred Thompson. She's playing to the same fan base, and getting the same kind of numbers on RCP--usually 3rd or 4th place.
