(snip)
But there are four solid reasons why Barbour could be the Republican sleeper in 2012. Lets look at them in ascending order.
4. The Republican field, less than 10 months from the 2012 Iowa caucuses, does not have a front runner yet. Mitt Romney has troubles with evangelicals and small government conservatives. Sarah Palin has squandered her fame (though not her fortune) and now looks unserious. Mike Huckabee doesnt want it the telltale sign is that he has comfortably settled into his old overweight self. Newt Gingrich, though he imagines himself a Churchill in the wilderness, is past his sell date. Tim Pawlenty is trying to be all things to all conservatives but so far he is unable to convey much passion. Some deep part of Mitch Daniels apparently doesnt want the job. Jeb Bush has the wrong last name. Chris Christie might be too regional.
3. Barbour is easily the most connected of all Republican candidates. He knows every governor, most legislators, all the fundraisers. He is well-liked.
2. He has performed well as Mississippis governor, both during the Hurricane Katrina crisis and in the everyday governors stuff of tamping down the states notorious tort bar, balancing budgets and promoting Mississippi as a place to do business. Barbour is, simply, a terrific salesmen for Mississippis business community.

Ok, but when I hear the term "squandered their fame" to me, that denotes having fallen out of the limelight, which is hardly the case here.
I hear the “Yankees for Barbour” committee is very optimistic.
And If Romney falters, as many expect, and Pawlenty fizzles, as seems likely, and Daniels hesitates ... Haley becomes first tier. He’s already making an effort in NH.
No, I’m not on the team.
Yeah...but wouldn’t you kill to have a front row seat at the debates? lol
Thank you so much for your post.
If you had not posted that, I would swear that there are a whole buncha folks on here who are regionalist snobs.
Thankfully, so far, there’s one who’s not...you. ;o)
“I just dont see that as a plus for the rest of us.”
Interesting...would you care to say why you feel that way?
There will be an off camera African American voice urging people to get out the vote before the Black Churches start burning.
What is so different than Bush being blamed for the dragging death of a black man in Texas? Or, the threat of black churches burning if Bush was elected?
Saw Haley at the SRLC in New Orleans last year. Said hello to him while he and his friends were sitting at the next table when I was having dinner.
Seems like a nice fellow and he is as sharp as a tack. He would have my Vote in a millisecond. Some have posted here that Haley is an Open Borders guy. Not sure about that, but all this should work out during the Debates and Primaries.

BINGO BINGO BINGO and Haley is a corporate wh0re for them.

Exactly. And worst of all, the media will take the content of the ad as truth and echo its sentiment in their reporting.
My concern, like that of many “tea party” types, is that part of the reason the cause of conservatives has been so diluted (some might say “hijacked”) is precisely because the Republican leadership has gotten too cozy in the corridors of power. Hence, my comment was directed at the fact that Haley Barbour’s contacts in high places and his relationships with the people who got us into the position of having to fight our own leadership to keep conservative values in the forefront is “not a plus for the rest of us”.
I don’t know what his positions on all the issues are, but rubbing elbows with the “in crowd” is a negative in my book.

Are you trying to compare me with obama? No elected politician speaks for Conservatives... name one if you think there is one.

Barbour says to act like anthropogenic global warming is true, lobbied for amnesty, praised Islamic Relief after Israel labeled them a Hamas front, wants to cut the Pentagon, and called Teh One "one of the greatest politicans ever".
He is the stereotypical Republican -- overweight, loud, Southern, and won't denounce a Confederate license plate.
If you support Barbour, then just elect Obama as Chancellor already...
NO cheers, unfortunately.
You should seek professional help.
You need to grow up.
You’re pathetic.
Notice I didn't (as so many PDS trolls, shills, and whores) merely repeat TPM talking points or say "he can't win": I pointed to allegations of *specific* quotes or policy positions with links included.
If you're gonna promote someone on FR, you'd better be prepared to deal with that.
Giving personal invective as the *FIRST* response does not add to your candidate's credibility.
Cheers!
Barbour pardons wife killers. He’s the Dukakis of the South.
