Conservatives are right to go after Sarah Palin
The Washington Post's Post Partisan ^ | March 14, 2011 | Jonathan Capehart

Posted on 03/14/2011 9:30:09 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

I’m no conservative. And I'm certainly no intellectual. But I totally understand the freakout among conservative intellectuals over Sarah Palin. For a movement based on ideas, the former governor of Alaska and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee who sits astride the party as a powerhouse fundraiser and potential king- or queenmaker has been uninterested in setting forth a vision crafted after years of thorough study to match her outsized influence.

The Atlantic’s Joshua Green wags his finger at those worry-wart Republicans: “It's not hard to understand what these conservative intellectuals are trying to accomplish,” he writes, “They genuinely believe that a Palin candidacy would be disastrous, for their party and likely for their own influence over that party.”

The “they” include George Will, Charles Krauthammer, Heather MacDonald and Matt Labash. They should be applauded for not bowing down at the altar of Palin’s (dwindling) popularity....

Sarah Palin is a lock .
I haven’t checked but I think I’ll do some homework.
I would like to investigate British Press coverage of Margaret Thatcher
during the run up to her becoming Prime Minister.
My intuition tell’s me the coverage will be similar.
Sarah Palin scares the hell out of them!

VOTE: PALIN/ WEST, CRUSH THE LEFT!

I remember all this same stuff being said about Reagan in 1976 on. I remember George Will (what a stuffed shirt) hated Reagan.

In 2008 they WERE crazy over Obama. Will, et al were all about how great he was even though the man never said anything of substance.

And frankly, I don’t get why people think he’s such a great speaker. He can’t think without a teleprompter and his stuccato voice is annoying as hell.

Many of these so-called “conservatives” would sell us out if only to gain some small amount of favor from liberals. I have always wondered why these “men” work so hard to hit people on our side, and not hard enough to hit the liberals.

Aren’t these the same morons that jump on the ‘civility’ bandwagon and on the 0 bandwagon?

It’s not that I have doubts about Sarah, I really don’t, I am just not sure if she will be able to weather the relentless, viscious storm of lies, half truths and personal attacks the left and lamestream media will throw at her if she throws her hat into the ring. They will not only attack her and her husband Todd but they will go after the rest of her family as well, the girls especially. There really are no depths to which they will stoop to discredit her or get her to drop out. We have already seen the left go after her and mock her “retarded” son Trip, who is an adorable, sweet little child, and her daughter Bristol for everything from an illegitimate child to her appearance on Dancing with the Stars to disgusting excuses for a human being like Kathy Griffin deciding it was time to go after 16 year old Willow now that it became old news to attack Bristol. Family is everything to Sarah, one of the things I love and admire most about her.

The left will come after her and her family with everything they have, because, let’s face it, they’re absolutely scared shitless of her. I think it may get so bad that Sarah will decide it’s just not worth the pain, and honestly, who cold blame her? Her family is her greatest strength, as it should be for all of us.

What the heck, what does she has to loose? she and her family has been called every name on the book. She may not want to put her family through it, but what if her family wants her to run? and most of all, what if God wants her to run?

Oh God give us leaders like Sarah Palin and Scott Walker and please Lord give the people of America wisdom from above.

These people have been living inside the bubble for so long, they have no clue what life is like in the majority of the Country. All they know is what they believe to be truth, that is, their perception of things, based upon their lives amongst themselves.

These people are the very definition of Elitists. The rest of the Country can be going to hell, but as long as they have their cocktail parties, their money and their social circles, they really don’t care.

Along comes an outsider, popular among the average people, and they cannot comprehend how such a commoner could possibly become President. To them, this has to be a joke, for She is not one of them.

What the rise of Gov. Palin and the Tea Party has done for me is to identify exactly who are real Conservatives and who are the Faux Conservatives. A number of people I once respected I now have little respect for.

The MSM believes they are more powerful than ever, and they may be right. Their vitriol has risen to a whole new level.

Whomever becomes the nominee against their “One” will receive the same treatment that Gov. Palin has received. If Palin isn't the nominee, will someone else be able to handle this new level of Media attacks as well as Palin? Probably not.

If her "popularity" is "dwindling" why are there more Google results for her than anyone else on Earth, including the current de facto president of the United States? Can't explain that, can you Jonathan?

Judging the wisdom of choosing a particular Presidential nominee based on "popularity" as determined by the alleged number of Google results?!?

Are all P.O.W.'s (Palin Obsessive Worshipers) on mind-altering drugs? Have you lost all sense of reality?

Alright, everybody, since that is how we should choose Presidential nominees, let's all do a little experiment:

Go to Google, start typing in names, and let's see what results we get. (Do it yourself if you don't believe my results):

Sarah Palin: "About 31,400,000 results (0.11 seconds)"

Lindsay Lohan: "About 41,000,000 results (0.06 seconds)"

Barack Obama: "About 81,100,000 results (0.09 seconds)"

Paris Hilton: "About 82,400,000 results (0.09 seconds)"

Kim Kardashian: "About 174,000,000 results (0.07 seconds)"

Lady Gaga: "About 268,000,000 results (0.15 seconds)"

So, by a crushing landslide, based on having "more Google results for her than anyone else .... including the current de facto president of the United States" ......

The logical Republican nominee for President of the United States should be:

LADY GAGA!

Instead of inventing ridiculous benchmarks such as "Google results" for judging the ability of Sarah Palin to defeat Barack Obama, maybe you need to stop drinking the Sarah Palin Cult of Personality Kool Aid, get back down to the Planet Earth and look reality straight in the face.

THIS is the reality of a Sarah Palin candidacy: A guaranteed reelection victory for Barack Hussein Obama.

FOX News Poll (February 7-9, 2011)

Question 3: I am going to read you a list of names. Tell me if you think that person would make a good President or not.

Sarah Palin:

.................YES.........NO.......DK.....Never heard of

ALL...........23%.......72%.........4%.......1%

Dem ...........7%........87%........5%.......1%

Rep ...........40%.......56%.......3%.......1%

Ind ...........25%........69%.......3%.......1%

While you are researching the British coverage of Lady Thatcher, do some research on President Reagan.

The media, and the supposed Republican “intellectuals” (including George Will), hated him every bit as much as they hate Palin.

I believe it’s “in” among those supposed “intellectuals”...conservative and/or Republican...to hate Sarah.

It’s their “invite” to the next cocktail party...says this flyover country rube.

..... What a load of BULLSHITE!!! Sarah Palin’s political beliefs are probably among the best known of any public figure.

Is that what you think "vision" is all about when a person becomes Commader-in-Chief?

Just parroting political talking points?

It is also about having a clue about what is going on in the World and having a clue about how to deal with the World:

"Palin couldn't explain why North Korea and South Korea were separate nations. ..... Asked to identify the enemy that her son would be fighting in Iraq, she drew a blank. Later, on the plane, Palin said to her team: 'I wish I'd paid more attention to this stuff'."

Back in 2008, if a new FReeper would not have had a clue about the Sunni militias, the al Sadr militias, the Kurdish situation and what had happened at Fallujah, we would have thought that that newbee was either pathetically uneducated or a Democrat Underground troll.

Sarah Palin was chosen by John McCain to be his V.P. candidate after just 18 months as Governor of a state with half the population of San Diego, CA because she was a woman and McCain wanted to play the Gender Card to attract the pissed off Hillary voters. When picked as McCain's V.P., Sarah Palin had no clue who her own son would be up against in Iraq in 2008.

Since when did conservatives, along with the Democrats, also become the champions of Affirmative Action Presidential nominees?

All Sarah Palin does is regurgitate the conservative political talking points that all of us on Free Republic could recite in our sleep before John McCain ever picked her.

Do you want to know what "setting forth a vision crafted after years of thorough study" is?

This is it:

From 1975 to 1979 Ronald Reagan gave more than 1,000 daily radio broadcasts, the great majority of which he wrote himself. ... These addresses .... enhance and revise our understanding of the late 1970s - a time when Reagan held no political office, but was nonetheless mapping out a strategy to transform the economy, end the Cold War, and create a vision of America that would propel him to the presidency. These radio programs demonstrate that Reagan had carefully considered nearly every issue he would face as president.

That is what vision is.

That is what preparing yourself for the Presidency is.

In 2008, Sarah Palin had no clue what the al Sadr militia was even though her own son was heading their way. That is truly pathetic and 180 degrees from the standard that Ronald Reagan set.

"In 2008, did you know who I was? Sarah Palin didn't."

I listened to those broadcasts. They were what convinced me that Reagan needed to be President. There hasn’t been a major political candidate since who has done anything similar to Reagan’s brief radio essays.

Liberals aren’t making very much sense these days. Her poularity is “dwindling”...yet she has “outsized influence” on the political scene. Sarah Palin is the worst nightmare of any establishment: someone of the people, not of the Ivy League, who has a large and powerful following.
