With the state's first elections under the "top two" primary created by Proposition 14 under way, California Republican Party officials are stepping up efforts to create a new internal party nomination system.
The party has not endorsed in primaries in recent years, but members approved last year the idea of creating a nomination process as a result of of the new system, which abolished party primaries in favor of a system that sends the top two finishers in a primary, regardless of party, to a run-off.
CRP Chairman Ron Nehring has drafted an amendment to the organization's bylaws that outlines a process for county and state central committee members to select and endorse party nominees.

*ping*
For Rinos, it will be an opportunity to stretch that ‘big tent’ ideal just as far as it can, because of course, the primary is now the general, and we ‘must win at all costs.’
Won’t have my vote. I’m only voting for people who campaign for my vote.
I get the impression from the article that the Grandees of the party feel the need to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic because they seem too incompetent to do the real work. This process seems silly.
Nehring is such a weasel. Read his writeup at FlashReport:

He’s whining about how terrible Prop 14 was even though the party didn’t lift a finger to defeat it (as Arnie, Abel, and the “purple party” “republicans” sold it to the electorate).
So now, the only option (according to Nehring) is to go through this special selection process.
Hey, Ron — why have elections at all? Why don’t you just pick our candidate for us.
I’m just about to de-register as a Republican. Today, for a special election, my choices were between a spineless democrat and a gay activist Republican. This party is worthless.
Thanks for the ping, marshal. Forgot to include you on my response.
I’m going independent myself. With open primaries, what’s to stop me?
Hell, the Republican leadership wrote us off more than a decade ago.
For whatever reason, the RP leadership in California did it’s best to commit harry carie IMO. Makes me angry to think about it.
Sounds like it’s time for you to move to Tennessee. :-P
They rewrite history every day. From Nehring at the link above:
“we opposed Proposition 14 when it appeared on the ballot without a single hearing and without any consultation with the leadership of either major party”
Of course, it was their fairhaired RINO boys that pushed it through, Arnie and Abel. Was Abel punished? Hell no — he was the guy they tried to push into the Lt. Gov position (grooming for Governor). And exactly what did they do to oppose it? Place a statement on their website (that no one ever reads)? Unbelievable. Complete incompetence.
I know what ya mean about angry.
fieldmarshal: sorry — I still love California.
Tennessee is not in my future. I’m stayin’ put.
oops - did it again! belated ping.
AT least the Green and Peace & Freedom Parties are fighting this stupid proposition.
Yes, that’s steam coming out of my ears...
I still love California too, and it causes me to despise anyone who would game the state like the California RP is.
They completely short circuit any chance of this state rebounding.
The California Republican party leadership is a farce, related to instituting anything other than the Democrat agenda.
Are you talking about Sharron Runner?
No, I was talking about the race to replace the deceased Sen. Oropeza (D).
Basically, the election was between Ted Lieu (D) and Bob Valentine (log cabin R)
Ah. Well, maybe it will cheer you up to know our Sharron Runner won.
Yeah, I looked last night. I was happy to see that overall we didn’t lose a seat.
Congrats to Sharon.
I don’t see an alternative to an internal primary since they passed this unconstitutional jungle primary bs.
Would CA law allow the GOP to opt out of the primary and establish a caucus system for nominating candidates? Having party chairmen select nominees may not make any likelier for a conservative to be elected than with a jungle primary.
