Sarah Palin in 2012: Could she really beat President Obama?
The Christian Science Monitor ^ | November 18, 2010 | Peter Grier

Posted on 11/18/2010 12:37:29 PM PST by 2ndDivisionVet

Sarah Palin is really sort of, you know, talking about thinking of running for president in 2012. In the way that people who might be real candidates do.

A New York Times magazine cover piece out this week quotes her as saying that she is “having that discussion with my family.” In an interview with Barbara Walters set to air on ABC in early December, she says she’s “looking at the lay of the land” right now.

When Ms. Walters asks Gov. Palin if she could beat President Obama in 2012, she replies, “I believe so.”

Could she? You betcha. Anything can happen in US politics. That’s why they hold the elections. We have no idea what the nation’s political environment will be like in two years, and to predict flatly that a national figure can or cannot win is to engage in false punditry.

(Except for Donald Trump. We will go out on a limb here and say that Mr. Trump will not be applying his special flair for publicity to the policies of a Trump administration, ever, no matter what the new website www.shouldtrumprun.com says. Palin would beat him like a drum.)

Palin clearly could win the Republican nomination. That doesn’t mean she will – at this early stage, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney probably remains the GOP frontrunner. But 80 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of the former Alaska governor, according to a recent Gallup poll.

“Now that the 2010 midterms are over, the big question swirling around Palin is whether she will run for the 2012 Republican presidential nomination,” writes Gallup analyst Lydia Saad. “Given her high name recognition and broad popularity among Republicans ... she is clearly in a strong position to seek it.”

Do they really think, at this stage of the game, that snark and ridicule will take her down?

If BHO stays on his current track, I’d say pretty much anyone will be able to beat him. That’s why he may not be the demtard nominee in ‘12.

No, not the hate media, but Soro's, I'm sure he's planning some great vote fraud for 2012, he got surprised by 2010 elections. Once they legalize the ILLEGALS, they'll have alot more votes!

I don't even consider it the Obama administration anymore, it is out there in the open, it's the Soro's administration, as we well knew a long time ago here at FR!

If he runs against a real corpse he will lose. There is no character in this person.

That’s why he may not be the demtard nominee in ‘12.

That and if only one of these states with GOP legislatures and Governors passes a law on proof of eligibility...it will cause issues to the One and he will not damage his ego in being brought down.

She can win just as Reagan won, once people saw him in the first debate.

It’s really hard to pin down the criticism of Sarah Palin. As I recall she did a great job beating Biden in their debate. It was McCain who did little against Obama.

The folks who love her will continue to love her no matter what. The question is whether or not a majority of citizens will support her.

My wife is a lifelong Republican who has never voted for a Democrat in her life. But she just hates Palin with a passion. To be honest, I think it's largely typical female cattiness, but she claims it's because Palin supposedly sounds not very smart, and rather goofy.

I'm not defending that point of view, but I am saying that a vote against Palin -- or refusing to cast a vote in her favor -- need not be based on rational thought or solid reasoning to count. Now personally, I'm not a fan, but there's no question that I'd support her over any Democrate. My wife says that if Palin is the nominee, she'll just not vote. And I don't think she's alone, because there are a lot of emotions out there surrounding Palin.

I do think she's portrayed unfairly by a lot of folks, but fairness doesn't count when it comes to actually counting ballots. And I personally think she'd have a difficult time getting a majority.

Will she have an Office of the President-Elect like President-Elect Soetoro did?

She has a very very low rating among independents. She cannot win without them.
She has a high approval among republicans.

Sounds like someone needs to start paying attention. When one is a life long republican and can get past the leftist diatribe that should set off an alarm. Sarah Palin has the ear of literally millions of people not very smart and goofy people don't accomplish that!!!

And what is the reason your wife won’t vote for Palin?

It really ticks me off when we have elected true morons like Obama, Palin, Pelosi, Reid - and somehow we have allowed people to say stupid things about Sarah Palin?

Your wife would prefer a government run by Barack Obama rather than the policies of Sarah Palin? Just incredible.

(No offense to the wife).

Sarah is doing the ground work for a run. The candidates she supported in the last election and the next will owe her the same way she owed McCain. She is using the public spotlight to raise her profile. She also knows her negatives are too high right now among the sheeple who watch network TV.

With the show on TLC she has the ability to bring her message directly to the people unfiltered. If she uses it correctly she can show she is not the bumbling idiot the bumbling idiots say she is. She might also slip some political messages in there for good measure.

Say what you want about her she is not stupid. She has gone from unknown city council member to a household name in 20 years. By making some money now to ensure her and her families future it will give her the independence to do what she wants.

If she thinks she has a shot she will run. Whether she can win or not I’ll tell you in 2 years.

At this point, Palin or any other (R) could beat Obummer in a two way race without having to campaign a whole lot.

Let’s look at a some recent statewide races:

58% of Michigan voters selected the (R) for Gov.
56% of Indiana voted (R) for the Senate.
Sen. Portman (R) was just elected in Ohio with 57% of the vote.
55% in North Carolina for Sen. Burr.
In North Carolina Republicans took 8 out of 11 house races ...and one race is still too close to call.
54% in New Mexico voted for Gov. Martinez (R)
52% voted (R) for Senator & Gov...in Wisconsin.
65% & 53% voted (R) for the Senator & Gov. in Iowa
60% in NH voted (R) for Sen Ayotte.
55% and 51% voted (R) for Gov. & Sen. in Pennsylvania
49% voted (R) for Senator and Gov in Florida

Sadly for Obummer, states like Washington, Oregon, Illinois, Minnesota, Colorado, Nevada and NEW JERSEY will also be in play.

What do all these states all have in common? They all voted for Obummer in 2008 and have since rejected him and his policies. Going into this next election Obummer starts out with about 140 “safe” electoral votes.
(Most of New England, New York, Delaware, DC, Maryland, Hawaii and California)

The (R)candidate will start out with about 225 “safe” electoral votes with 270 needed to win.

At least your wife wouldn’t vote for Obama instead. At least she is NOT a traitor as many of Mike Castle supporters were in voting for Coons over O’Donnell.

Sarah Palin in 2012: Could she really beat President Obama?

She has to beat all the other Republicans running for the nomination first.
