Republican hearts are with Palin-but not their heads. Best prez candidate for 2012, Romney (Spew!)
The London Guardian ^ | November 17, 2010 | Ryan Streeter

Sarah Palin has certainly sent clear messages that she's considering a bid for the White House in 2012. She has effectively said as much in interviews, and her actions speak quite loudly.

Her flurry of TV shows and appearances, hugely-attended public events, and a surprisingly well-articulated policy statement or two – such as the one on quantitative easing that won the Wall Street Journal editorial page's praise – all seem to be part of a strategy to show her leading on multiple fronts. A good trait in a president.

It may be difficult for people outside the United States to understand her appeal, but inside the United States, Palin represents much of what had people angry, organised and energised during the November midterm elections. She is different to what people feel is the problem: slick, soundbite-tested politicians who have made politics their career. People are tired of saccharine. Or, if you like, the arugula-eating elites identified with President Obama. They want burgers, red meat – something, and someone, "real American" they can relate to.

The ConservativeHome Republican Panel, released today in partnership with YouGov, gauges the opinion of more than 2,200 American conservatives, 69% of whom have given their money or time in the past four years to a political candidate. Overwhelmingly, those respondents reject President Obama's signature domestic reform: his healthcare law. When asked what they would most like to see the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives do, 88% said "repeal the healthcare law" (given a choice of three options out of 12). When asked what the new Republican majority can do to help advance their personal economic prospects, 66% said lower tax rates, 55% said promote rapid job growth, and 50% said make it easier to start small businesses....

State-run media is terrified of her.

Be afraid. Be very afraid.

We have one professional high school valedictorian for President right now. Romney would just be another one.

What is up with this incessant Romney thing? Nobody is going to nominate him in 2012. He bombed in 2008 and he’s still a no starter. Get past it folks.

Romney is running, and he is formidable, he also has the power to play a spoiler role a little messier than, and in a different way than what he did in 2008.

From Wikipedia, concerning George Romney, Mitt's pa:

Romney was a candidate for President of the United States in 1968. While initially a front-runner, he proved an ineffective campaigner, and fell behind Richard Nixon in polls. Following a mid-1967 remark that his earlier support for the Vietnam War had been due to a "brainwashing" by U.S. military and diplomatic officials in Vietnam, his campaign faltered even more, and he withdrew from the contest in early 1968.

With all of Mitt's positions on issues, maybe some of that brainwashing was passed down from dear old dad.

Of course it's difficult for people outside the United states to understand the appeal since it concerns American Constitutional Principles. Da.....

My gut is telling me it is going to wind up being a Romney/Palin ticket. I just don’t see her winning on her own. Sooooooooo many people hate her for no reason when given the opportunity to answer why.

Romney is not only a proven bad Governor, and fascist,
but also a dog abuser.
No wonder he hides like a backstabbing coward while Gov. Palin LEADS.

"But the details of the event are more than unseemly — they may, in fact, be illegal.
Massachusetts's animal cruelty laws specifically prohibit anyone
from carrying an animal "in or upon a vehicle, or otherwise, in an unnecessarily cruel
or inhuman manner or in a way and manner which might endanger the
animal carried thereon.
" An officer for the Massachusetts Society
for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals responded to a description of the situation
saying "it's definitely something I'd want to check out." The officer,
Nadia Branca, declined to give a definitive opinion on whether Romney broke the law
but did note that it's against state law to have a dog in an open bed of a pick-up truck,
and "if the dog was being carried in a way that endangers it, that would be illegal."

"Dog on Roof? What Was It Like for Romney's Pooch?
Scientists Say Dog Likely Experienced Wind-Whipped, Uncomfortable Trip
"Before beginning the drive, Mitt Romney put Seamus, the family's hulking Irish setter,
in a dog carrier and attached it to the station wagon's roof rack.
e'd built a windshield for the carrier, to make the ride more comfortable for the dog," read the article.
Jordan Kaplan, the owner of Petaholics, a dog walking service in New York City,
and a lifelong dog owner and dog lover, said Romney's actions were uncalled for.
....What Happens to a Dog on a Roof Traveling 50 MPH?"

"Romney's dog - This is a distinction Mitt Romney probably could do without, but he is surely
the first presidential candidate to be attacked for putting a dog with diarrhea
in a carrier and tying it to the top of a station wagon.
Romney's defense: Seamus liked it. "He scrambled up there every time we went on trips,"
the Republican said during a campaign stop in Pittsburgh. "He got in all by himself and enjoyed it."

"As the oldest son, Tagg Romney commandeered the way-back of the wagon,
keeping his eyes fixed out the rear window, where he glimpsed the first sign of trouble.
''Dad!'' he yelled. ''Gross!'' A brown liquid was dripping down the back window,
payback from an Irish setter who'd been riding on the roof in the wind for hours.
As the rest of the boys joined in the howls of disgust,
Romney coolly pulled off the highway and into a service station.
There, he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car,
then hopped back onto the highway."

"Story about dog on car roof comes back to bite Romney
Critics, jokesters make issue of tale
TIME.com's Swampland blog has been flooded with more than 200 comments
from readers complaining of animal cruelty"

Romney's bad behavior Exposed by Seamus

"Romney Loses Nomination Over Dog Abuse?
Romney was traveling that summer with his wife, five sons, and Seamus to his parent's cottage on Lake Huron.
But hours into the ride, Seamus apparently suffered diarrhea,
which ran down the back window of the car. Romney's sons, all under 13, howled in disgust.
Romney pulled off the road into a service station.
There, he borrowed a hose, washed down Seamus and the car, and they drove on to Ontario.
.....David Kravitz wrote on BlueMassGroup, a liberal blog.
"It also strikes me as classic Romney: it solves a problem efficiently,
in a business-like manner, and with no regard whatsoever
for the suffering that the solution may cause."

Thanks for asking and not assuming I have nothing worthwhile to add to this debate, seeing as how I’m a Mormon-—sorry, everybody-—and don’t get online much.
I would support Ron Paul. He is a patriot. Just because I’m a Mormon doesn’t mean I would automatically support a Mormon for office. (I sure as heck don’t support Harry Reid!)
I don’t like Palin. I can’t exactly put my finger on why, but it’s not her policies OR the fact that the media detests her. It’s a gut instinct—and I don’t like the fact that she, or her family has to be in front of the camera all the time.
I would support ROn Paul. Or Christie with all the energies of my soul.

I gotta be honest, your remark really ticks me off. Just because I’m a Mormon doesn’t mean I support Romney or all things Mormon. As a matter of fact, I DON”T like Romney. NOr do I like Harry Reid-—and I certainly wouldn’t support Obama, even if he ran for dog catcher.
As for my sleeper account, here’s my excuse: I have a life, a job, kids, dinner to get ready, and not a lot of time to sit in front of the computer. Maybe you can explain to all of us how that makes my opinion less worthwhile.
My two top choices at this point would be Ron Paul or Chris Christie.

Yeah, a Mormon political writer that goes 5 years between posts, and then shows up to go after Palin, you must be very busy.

Ron Paul instead of Romney, that is almost as bad.

My last post-—please DO check— was on September of this year-—not five years ago as you claimed. SO did you not bother to check your facts-—or did you deliberately mislead?

But that really is besides the point. What I objected to so much about your tactics was your bringing my religion into the argument.

Argue on the merits. If you don’t like my reason for being lukewarm at best on Palin, take the time to post a well reasoned, persuasive argument. Doing that might actually have a shot at changing someone’s mind. I don’t hate Palin, and as I mentioned previously, I agree with her on most issues. And despite your other stereo-typical assumption, I wouldn’t support Romney because of his own version of obamacare.

I prefer a candidate like Christie or Paul. They come across to me as more qualified for the office— and I believe both would do far better than Palin in a debate.

Before that one (on Mormonism), it was a five year gap between posts.

Ron Paul is not, and never has been a serious candidate for president, he is forever stuck in his safe little congressional district.
