At a reception and dinner attended by fifty conservative movers and shakers, Sarah Palin implicitly compared herself to President Ronald Reagan. At the same time she suggested that she is mulling a Presidential run in 2012.
According to Politico:
"Speaking to a group of well-connected Republicans at a private dinner in Florida this week, Sarah Palin implicitly addressed questions about her own electability by noting that critics also said Ronald Reagan couldn't win in 1980, three attendees told POLITICO.
"Palin, at an event organized by the conservative magazine Newsmax, told the right-wing crowd that those who don't have the same convictions will always say a true conservative can't win.
"Pointing out that the knock on Reagan was that he was also too far to the right, the former Alaska governor repeatedly invoked the 40th president and conservative icon, at one point citing the quotation he was most fond of: that America is a "shining city on a hill."
"'I think she sees herself as heir to Reagan,' said one attendee."
While just about every Republican politician invokes Ronald Reagan, just as Democrats like to invoke John Kennedy or Franklin Roosevelt, Sarah Palin's implicit suggestion that she is the heir or even the second coming of Ronald Reagan would seem somewhat presumptuous, at least at first glance.
There are some parallels. Like Reagan, Palin was a state governor. Like Reagan, a large percentage of the liberal intelligentsia has labeled her, mistakenly, as somewhat dim. Like Reagan, she is beloved by many, hated by many more. Like Reagan, Palin is something of a media star.
There are differences, of course...

Well so far you told us how Biden sucked in that debate
Yes I totally agree. She sounds like a 3rd grade teacher
Really short sighted response. I cant take you people who INSIST that it’s Palin or we loose or Palin or you support Marxist. In my opinion she’s not close to what I want in a presidential candidate , so there, I guess that makes me a Communist. She will not win the presidential race if nominated. No way in hell.
No.
“Bolton was for it before he was against it.”
Not so. He was never for it.

Well, einstein - that event had NOT occurred in July, 2009.
In addition, Iman obama’s surrogates were on track to continue the false ethics charges and increasing Sarah’s legal costs on a continuing basis until she was bankrupted.
Typical Alinsky tactics, einstein.
Sheesh, what a maroon.
My point is if she was so concerned with her legal fees then why were some of them still hanging around a year after she quit?
Besides, the state had already committed to paying her legal bills up to $100,000 and would no doubt have covered all of them. She was not on the hook immediately for any of the legal expenses.
That's assuming that the legal fees were her reason for quitting. It's only one of, what is now, three reason's she's given? Legal fees, lame duck, mean media treatment.
Wow. Just wow. I have never seen so much tripe in a single post on FR.
No.
Good grief, man - get a brain and get in touch with reality. You’re sounding like a clueless liberal functioning in bazarro world.
Not so. He was never for it.
Not so. As I said, he was for it, before he was against it.
Are you even trying to be objective?
The RNC is paying for only legal costs incurred during the summer and fall 2008 campaign. They are NOT paying for any legal fees after that including legal fees that would have continued if she remained governor.
Also the RNC only recently agreed to pay for those fees.
Yeah but Reagan did not sound like a idiot when he was interviewed. She does unless it is with someone who is a cheerleader of hers.
And you didn’t have the internet and the 24 hour news channels to do nothing but focus on the negatives of every conservative.
She is great to rally the base. But she will never be president. And I am positive that if she was much less attractive, she would NEVER had gotten chosen as VP, let alone be such a star as she is now.
And no, just because I do not care for her doesn’t mean I am some liberal hack or a supporter of Obama. (He is just as unqualified to be president, probably less.) Just as I do not call those who do support her in a run morons.
Couldn’t agree with you more. Pure hogwash!
I am dumbfounded by your post...step away from the keyboard, take a breath, and DON’T TOUCH THAT KOOL-AID !...magritte
You are stating your opinion as fact. It's just your opinion.
In my opinion, she sounds just as knowledgeable as anyone else. More than most trying to position themselves for the top of the ticket.
Good decision Maggie. I probably should have done the same thing instead of sticking my oar into such muddy water. I have my opinion just as you do and I seriously doubt either of us will convince the other to change position so we might as well save our energy.
Have a good day.
Hey, Piss...just in the interest of full disclosure, who do you support for President in ‘12?
Plastic Mitt? The Huckster?
It’s not as though we have another candidate who holds a candle compared to Sarah at this point...
