Is Sarah Palin the Second Coming of Ronald Reagan?
Associated Content ^ | October 9, 2010 | Mark R. Whittington

At a reception and dinner attended by fifty conservative movers and shakers, Sarah Palin implicitly compared herself to President Ronald Reagan. At the same time she suggested that she is mulling a Presidential run in 2012.

According to Politico:

"Speaking to a group of well-connected Republicans at a private dinner in Florida this week, Sarah Palin implicitly addressed questions about her own electability by noting that critics also said Ronald Reagan couldn't win in 1980, three attendees told POLITICO.

"Palin, at an event organized by the conservative magazine Newsmax, told the right-wing crowd that those who don't have the same convictions will always say a true conservative can't win.

"Pointing out that the knock on Reagan was that he was also too far to the right, the former Alaska governor repeatedly invoked the 40th president and conservative icon, at one point citing the quotation he was most fond of: that America is a "shining city on a hill."

"'I think she sees herself as heir to Reagan,' said one attendee."

While just about every Republican politician invokes Ronald Reagan, just as Democrats like to invoke John Kennedy or Franklin Roosevelt, Sarah Palin's implicit suggestion that she is the heir or even the second coming of Ronald Reagan would seem somewhat presumptuous, at least at first glance.

There are some parallels. Like Reagan, Palin was a state governor. Like Reagan, a large percentage of the liberal intelligentsia has labeled her, mistakenly, as somewhat dim. Like Reagan, she is beloved by many, hated by many more. Like Reagan, Palin is something of a media star.

There are differences, of course...

"You’re right P’ant......Palin won’t sign an amnesty bill for illegal aliens like Reagan did."

Or an abortion bill, like he did as governor...

“I don’t think she plans to run for any office though.”

Put your reading glasses back on H’gunner......it’s so easy to see even Ray Charles could see it. (and he’s dead now!)

While there are those who, for whatever reason, either refuse to admit it or are incapable of seeing it (both are symptoms of a pre-existing prejudice against her). Sarah Palin is without question the most qualified candidate on either side of the aisle for the 2012 Presidency.

The rare combination of her political skills, her genius for management, her ability to unite disparate entities in pursuit of a common goal, and her heartfelt belief in both the Constitution and the Bible make her the exceptional candidate, and happen to do so at the one point in history where, without Palin alone assuming those reins, America and her Dream become but a sad, tragic memory.

Anything else said on the topic is just bullsh*t, and America knows it. That's why she's the mega-star that she is. Her time has come, and not a moment too soon.

;-/

HAHA! No way. Palin is a lightweight. She would be throttled in a debate with almost anyone. She is a female Sean Hannity. Hits all the talking points, but her depth of knowledge doesn’t quite rival a toddlers inflatable swimming pool. I cringed at many of her answers in her debate with Biden
Not saying I do not like her, but she is not equipped to be the leader of a movement. We need someone that conservatives love, and that middle of the road folks can be convinced by. Otherwise we lose in ‘12.

You are totally unreasonable. I think you are smarter than that. You show me where I have supported Obama?

I was ticked at Anne Coulter yesterday for shilling for Chris Christie.

He stinks on immigration in spite of the fact he is good with the media.

You do know that no matter who enters the race on our side, they will be asked tough questions. I suggest you get ready for that. A person’s past record, the good and the bad, will be scrutinized.

"...Palin's implicit suggestion that she is the heir or even the second coming of Ronald Reagan would seem somewhat presumptuous, at least at first glance."

Until, that is, you remember that Reagan's son Michael has said the same exact thing about Sarah on many occasions, and will do so again in a few short days time as part of the Make America Great Again rally.

So those who don't want to admit it can suck on that for a while.

I could beat Mr. Obama at this point, much less after two more years of his disastrous policies, foreign affairs flubs, gaffes, unforced errors, reverse racism, obvious disdain for average Americans and preference towards Islam and our other enemies. Let me guess? We need a business tycoon who's already instituted “health care reform” in his own state, blah, blah, blah...

I meant that by tearing down the only conservative who’ll probably be in the running, you’re giving Mr. Obama another term to destroy this once great nation.

A couple of thoughts on your comments.

Palin is much greener than Reagan at this point. RR after all had been governor of CA, a lot like a small country. Been around the block a few times more.

That said, many somewhat green leaders have proven themselves well when put in the hot seat. I think Palin has shown hints of the fiber that comes out in a leader when things get tough.

The next RR? I suppose it is possible. But statements and comparisons like this are bull. Let’s compare her to live competition, and she looks pretty superior to Romney and Huck.

The level of hate and media vitriol that will be put on any Republican candidate in 2012 is going to exceed anything experienced in the past.

Liberals don’t disagree with people, they hate the worthless scum that disagree with them.

"she is better than Reagan"

I also happen to think she's "better than Reagan" in that she's smarter (yes I really think so), more charismatic, and more committed to true conservative principles!

GO SARAH!!!

Palin '12!

“Btw, I like Palin but she is NO Ronald Reagan.”

You’re right, she’s FAR better by every quantifiable measure. I’m sure RR would say the same thing!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!! Yes way!!! Palin will be your next president, so get used to it. She annhialated O'Biden in that debate, and O'Biden LIED and MISSPOKE about 23 different "facts" that he was supposed to be such an "expert" on.

Like when he claimed to have "been there" when "...we kicked Hezbollah out of Lebanon." Hezbollah was never in Lebanon, he was thinking of Syria getting kicked out, and it was the Israeli's who facilitated that, we were nowhere to be found.

You really are ridiculous. Go ahead and back Biden, you simp. We'll back the American. LMAO!!!!!!

I don’t see where I am tearing her down here. I asked a question that she will be asked eventually anyway. There are republicans that are for LOST, you know.

Why do you think that you have a right to tell other conservatives they don’t care about the nation unless they agree with your opinion?

That is unreasonable and unfair. How do you know Palin will win? You don’t know, do you? What if you are wrong?

LOL Thanks for the post, airhead.

Reagan was a successful two-term Governor and a highly successful two-term POTUS who won office in historic election landslides.

Palin served 2-1/2 years as Alaska Governor and chose to quit before her term ended. Nothing to brag about. She’s riding a populist wave right now. Nothing more.

Comparing Palin to Reagan is like comparing Obama to Lincoln. Plain dumb!

Well, I'd take Palin over Newt, Romney (and the idea of Huck boggles my mind, the man is awful). With that said, I still believe it will be a sitting Governor...Eitehr Barbour or Mitch Daniels. Both would square off much better Vs Obama (than Palin) and both are leaders, Governors making tough decisions.

We are finding out right now how dangerous it is to have people as POUTS/CinC who need to learn on the job (outside of their wrongheaded politics). Palin would be no different, she would need 2 or 3 years of training on the job. Reality is, whether Conservatives here want to admit it or not....If any DEM with Palin's "light" executive record was the DEM nominee, we would call them out on it. We cannot afford more training on the job.

Palin Supports Law of the Sea Treaty Give me Bolton.

Perhaps Palin will flip on LoST like Bolton did.

Bolton was for it before he was against it.

Palin was already a mayor and governor. She already knows how to run a cabinet and make decisions. As for knowing how to be POTUS she has two more years to learn the ropes. Palin is definitely not a neophyte.

Palin is NO Ronald Reagan and she would admit as much. She is the best thing going right now only because there isn’t much else and because our expecations have been lowered by the likes of turds like Obama.
