Alaska Primary Election Results Winner: Joe Miller Beats Lisa Murkowski?
Right Pundits ^ | August 24th, 2010

Posted on 08/25/2010 12:44:16 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In a shocking upset, Joe Miller is the winner of the Alaska Senate primary if the current vote projection holds for the Republican primary election. With half of the precincts reporting, Miller holds a slight 51.8 to 48.2% lead over the GOP incumbent senator. The vote lead has been consistent during the early counting and even increased slightly as more precincts have been counted in Alaska.

Joe Miller has been a heavy underdog in pre-election polls, trailing the senator by 20-30 points. Nobody thought this race would be close.

In fact, the mainstream media has been using the Alaska primary challenge from Miller as evidence that Sarah Palin’s endorsements are not all that useful. Palin endorsed Joe Miller several weeks ago. The press assumed that Lisa would beat Miller easily as the polls predicted, which fed a certain group-think that is comforting to liberals.

Even if the sitting senator manages to come back from the vote deficit, any victory for her will be razor thin. And that is appearing more and more unlikely as the evening progresses. In reality Palin is the most powerful voice in politics today. Her endorsements generate interest, campaign donations, grassroots support, and results at the ballot box.

The meme that Palin endorsements are irrelevant began surfacing in early August and became an oft repeated mantra by liberal television commentators in the mainstream media. If the Alaska senate results hold up for Joe Miller, the former governor of Alaska will have shut them up permanently.

Right Pundits will stay up late to give you the final Alaska primary results for Joe Miller just as soon as we can make an early call officially. We are almost there. Even as this brief piece was written, Joe Miller extended his lead slightly while more precincts in the state were counted. The winner of the Alaska primary appears to be Joe Miller, and Sarah Power will be undeniable even to her critics. We will make the call official soon, assuming it is warranted.

So what is known about Joe Miller’s biography? He has eight kids and a game wife named Kathleen Miller. He grew up in Kansas but moved west to Alaska at the age of 16. He holds a law degree and various positions of local authority in the judiciary, including that of U.S. Magistrate Judge in Fairbanks Alaska. He earned a Bronze Star for bravery in the Gulf War after graduating high in his class from West Point.

What an election result! Reader comments welcome.

Speaking of Romney, his endorsement of Miller will likely come sometime later today.

mccain was dropping fast in the polls and hayworth was moving up. Then Palin stepped in and mccain stopped looking back

I don't think that's true. Hayworth made his closest run to McCain well after Palin's one visit and ad was cut (back in March, wasn't it?). McCain spending $20M on a primary is what made this such a blowout, not Palin.

A “game wife” is one who can bear eight children and still go on to support her husband when he enters politics?

Why is it a slight lead when a good guy is ahead and a landslide when a commie has 52%?

Because the commie can make up 4-5% in vote fraud and "recounts", whereas the good guy can't.

Still too early. He'll wait until all the absentee ballots are in.

Ya know, I sent both my kids absentee ballots in who are now off to school, (wifey said what will 2 votes matter). I also got 2 our local Indians to change to repub and I witnessed their ballots; sent them off. I don’t think Lisa will win on uncounted ballots.

Joe Miller hangs on to lead; credits Sarah Palin

97.9 percent of the precincts have now been counted in Alaska, and underdog Joe Miller leads by 2.18 percentage points over incumbent Senator Lisa Murkowski in Alaska. The challenger is ahead by 1,960 votes. Miller had 51.09 percent of the votes in the GOP primary to Lisa Murkowski's 48.91 percent.

Miller told the Anchorage Daily News that he credited the support of Sarah Palin for his lead:

"I'm absolutely certain that was pivotal," he said.
Gov. Palin endorsed Joe Miller June 2.

I wish Sarah endorsed J.D. Hayworth in Arizona, too. Grrr!

I get slammed every time I mention this, but JD wasn't a canidate to get excited about. Being out of state, I have sent money to Rubio and Miller, but JD was not one to put resource into.... FROM POLITICS DAILEY

Hayworth's support of Bush's big-government polices included voting for the No Child Left Behind Act; the paperwork- and red-tape-friendly (and business-unfriendly) Sarbanes-Oxley Act; the pork-laden 2005 highway bill that included the infamous "bridge to nowhere"; and, most expensive of all, a Medicare drug benefit that created more than $7 trillion in unfunded liabilities. What is more, his support for a monstrosity known as the 527 Reform Act, which was intended to close "loopholes" in McCain/Feingold, and which was arguably worse for conservatives than the original article.

I don’t have my calculator handy and am on only my first cup of coffee this morning but it look like it is almost mathematically impossible for Murkowski to win.

“Miller told the Anchorage Daily News that he credited the support of Sarah Palin for his lead:

Miller is a class act and a great conservative, tough and smart. We have not seen his like in the U.S. Senate since Jesse Helms retired. He is going to be worth his weight in gold as a stalwart defender of the Constitution and and opponent of all things socialist.

Sarah Palin took a long chance in supporting him, and she deserves kudos (but we have come to expect that of her; she doesn’t let the risk dissuade her). Long after the end of her second term as POTUS, Joe Miller will—God willing—still be in the United States Senate fighting our battles for us. For that, I say a hearty thanks to Governor Palin for Joe Miller...the gift that will keep on giving.

But they will try to drag it out as long as possible, the liberals in Alaska are crazier than normal and you have to be a little on the weird side if you live here all year long.

This primary is very critical, what happens here will be the model for the rest of the country to follow though technically it happened in Florida earlier.

But its happening in Alaska and again Sarah Palin is involved and the sound of exploding heads is being heard across the country this morning as “Another one bites the Dust”.

Fox News seems to think the result will be announced today. I so pray.

Joe Miller has won. He’s held the lead from the very start.
