GOP aspirants will regret underestimating Palin
The New Haven Register ^ | July 27, 2010 | Roger Simon

MORE than 13 months ago, I wrote a column that began: “Sarah Palin can be the Republican nominee in 2012. I am not saying she will be, but she can be. Those who underestimate her do so at their own risk.”

I remember sniggering and mockery from those who could not find actual vegetables to throw.

As was widely believed at the time, Sarah Palin was an idiot. Her interview with CBS’ Katie Couric had proved that. And Palin’s approval rating as governor of Alaska, once so high, had plunged to 54 percent.

Palin was a gun-toting pit bull with lipstick, with a family that was portrayed as somewhere between a reality show and white trash.

More than a year later, I have not changed my mind about Palin’s political potential. This is not based on polls — especially one showing her in a 46 percent to 46 percent tie with President Barack Obama in a 2012 face-off. I don’t believe the polls tell us anything meaningful.

I am basing my belief on Palin’s ability to connect with the base of her party. Name a bigger name in the Republican Party today. Heck, name any name in the Republican Party today.

The most energized wing of her party, Republican tea party participants, have reason to like her. At a February tea party convention in Nashville, Tenn., Palin said, “America is ready for another revolution, and you are a part of this.” This set off one of many standing ovations.

Making fun of the president, Palin asked the crowd, “How’s that hope-y, change-y stuff working out for you?” She believed what the crowd believed: It wasn’t working out well.

Just to see the obnoxious self-righteous liberal fringe (including the MSM) go bonkers I would love to see Palin win the Presidency. I would love to see a parade of non-Washington, non-Ivy League, non-urban candidates win office.

Yup.

Sarah Palin is a master of imagery. Pit bulls with lipstick, hopey-changey, mama grizzlies - all phrases conjuring up vivid images in peoples minds and they know exactly what she’s talking about - even those who don’t agree with her. Fact is, aside from being better looking, the leftie moonbats hate her because they realize how effective she is. Now she’s got the whole English-speaking world making fun of Obama’s (lack of) “cojones”!

Let’s consider Palin’s approach in light of three of Alinsky’s Rules for Radicals:

1. Power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.

5. Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon.

6. A good tactic is one that your people enjoy.

I’d say she’s writing a new one: “Turn your enemy’s weapon against him”.

SP is really a different kind of woman candidate..she is a Tom-boy for one thing...ever see that vid of her visiting the troops? Her gait is not feminine, she shakes hands like a man, she is confident with men, she has moxie, and is very pretty also.

Not sure how women will react to her as a Presidential candidate, it appears that she is trying to make strides with them.

Palin has something more than intellect.

She has the ability to connect with and energize her party.

SARAH PALIN PING LIST "ping"

If you think The Left hated Bush, it's hard to imagine what absolute, unending Hell they will be in when Palin wins the White House. Take how much we loathe O'Bunga, and multiply that by a factor of, oh... a few million!

You will actually see elite-illectuals moving to Canada and France out of sheer agony and rage.

Then, when she sweeps into her second term in 2016, with the Nation in the middle of the biggest economic boom in over 100 years, unemployment at 2%, and fresh from total victory in Afghanistan, there will be Libtards jumping off the Empire State building in New York, and off Number 3 Embarcadero in San Francisco.

Ahhh, life is good with an active imagination...

:-)

Right, but don’t undersell her intellect. Brains combined with commonsense is in short supply “inside the beltway”. We need Sarah Palin and many more like her replacing those over-educated idiots.

She’s smarter than all those people put together and the funny thing is that we know it and she knows it, but they don’t believe it! LOL.

I haven't seen anyone in the Republican Party connect with and move large crowds like she can. She is Reaganesque in her optimism. So far she seems to realize that the current regime can't have its agenda tweaked. It needs to be reversed.

I suspect there are lots of Republican Presidential aspirants who believe the right way to go is Obama-lite.

I hope we (Canada) tighten up our refugee claimant system before then.

Newt Gingrich wouldn’t excite me whatsoever. I would hope Sarah (if she ran) could garner a better running mate than him.

I do understand though, that he might bring in the RINO’s and old line GOP’ers. Blech.

This is not based on polls — especially one showing her in a 46 percent to 46 percent tie with President Barack Obama in a 2012 face-off

What is interesting is that a sitting President who has the complete backing of the MSM is now even with a former VP candidate who has been summarily trashed by same. Hmmmmm ....

Sarah speaks to, and as, US -- we the People, while the rest of the political class only speak to themselves in their own little echo chamber ... a game of upsmanship they play amongst each other.

Not saying that Sarah is perfect, far from it .. she is human like us all, complete with human frailties and foibles. And that is what makes her real, makes her just like all of us ... lends to her appeal to us all.

Some day she might turn out to be yet another phony politician of arrogant ambition like all the rest .. but until and unless that day comes, so far Sarah Palin is *real*
