Huckabee Says He's the GOP's Front-Runner for 2012
Politics Daily ^ | June 28, 2010 | David Sessions

Posted on 06/28/2010 3:24:44 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

After weeks of keeping himself in the headlines and growing more explicit about his intentions to run for president in 2012, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee touted himself as the Republican front-runner, The Hill reports. Speaking on "Fox News Sunday," Huckabee attempted to remain elusive about his presidential ambitions, but showed he is closely watching his poll numbers.

"I end up leading a lot of the polls," Huckabee said. "I'm the Republican that clearly at this point does better against Obama than any other Republican." About his presidential run, Huckabee added: "I haven't closed the door. I think that would be foolish on my part, especially when poll after poll shows that there is strong sentiment out there."

The 2012 Republican presidential field could also include Mitt Romney, who led early polling until Huckabee overtook him in April, and Sarah Palin. Huckabee said Sunday that he has "no doubt" Romney will be running, and praised both of his potential opponents. He said Romney has money and organization on his side, while Palin has "fire and energy" and fervent support from the Republican base.

Huckabee, who hosts a weekend show on the Fox News Channel, has kept up a steady stream of political pronouncements since he lost the 2008 primary to John McCain. Earlier this month, he received extensive coverage after a profile in The New Yorker quoted him cracking jokes about sex with former White House correspondent Helen Thomas and Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and calling gay sex "icky."

"The only thing worse than a torrid affair with sweet, sweet Nancy would be a torrid affair with Helen Thomas," Huckabee joked in an e-mail to the magazine's reporter, Ariel Levy. "If those were my only options, I'd probably be for same-sex marriage!"

In April, Huckabee faced what was seen as a setback to his presidential hopes when a man he had pardoned in Arkansas killed four police officers in Washington state. Politics Daily's Jill Lawrence wrote that it was "almost inconceivable" that Republican voters would unite behind Huckabee after the slayings.

What does advanced degrees have anything to do with it? I could have cared less how many semesters it took to get her B.A.

The point is, she quit under fire. She ran away. By contrast, lets look at another tough job: U.S. Navy SEALs. What do they do with quitters? They throw them out! They go on to more traditional easy jobs in the Navy. Isn’t the president’s job far more important than a SEAL operator? Nuff said.

Look I dont want him as the nominee either, but this is just another totally biased leftoid giving a false impression as to what he said.

He did not “tout” himself as the frontrunner or give a strong impression that he has made his mind up to run. What he said was along the lines of “even though the polls show that I am the most likely to defeat Obama, there are other considerations, such as the debt I have from the last primary campaign.”

If anything he was rather modest about things. True, he didnt rule out running but he hardly came on strong.

Count on MSM types to lie about Republicans every time.

So far the only one we know for sure is running would be Romney. Huck did not say what this article claims.

Have a little more respect for Palin. She is one us. I don’t care what your opinion is on if she should run or if you even vote for her. But don’t trash the person who represents middle America more than anyone in our party.

There is a dose of sexism in your post as well

You don’t know what the hell you are talking about. She was fighting backdoor extortion by proxy in Alaska, They were trying to destroy her family.

She is in much better shape now. Shes free to run.

If she is representative of "middle America" than American, North, South, East, West, Center is in alot of trouble.

I refuse to insult the intelligence of the folks of this nation by believing that Minnie Pearl represents "middle America." She is nothing more than an opportunistic middling to poor ex-Governor who plays upon IDENTITY POLITICS to dupe SOME of her followers (those who go ape feces about her on this site) into near-religious devotion.

HospiceNurse seems to be just another Palin hating troll dressed up as a FReeper.

I have no other way to describe other than I hate these people with a passion.

“Lord help us.”

It may well be that the way the LORD will help us is by getting Mike elected. I like Sarah...how can you not? However, I personally believe that Mike has more real substance than her. Also, I believe him to be more genuine than Mitt. I think Mike would be a good president.

We ALL want a GREAT president, but I will settle for just a good one right now.

I hope he is gone and I a few of these other people follow him out to parts unknown.

These are not FReepers. These are trolls using DNC and MSM talking points to attack Sarah Palin and us.

Huckabee reminds me of the slick-talking Bible salesman on "Oh Brother, Where Art Thou"...not in looks, but in his sneakiness and line of BS.

I don't think the MSM will have quite as much luck this time around leading the lambs to the slaughter like the last election. People are catching on, and wising up.

As far as Sarah Palin being "Minnie Pearl", if you recall "Minnie Pearl" was a stage personna, but the lady who played her was a sohphisticated and respected lady.

I'm still hoping Sarah will run as anyone who scares the left as much as she does, is the leader we need. Huckleberry is a laughing stock in the MSM, but they'll try to pull a "mccain" and thrust him up to the front to set it up for the kenyan.

So, without listening to either one of them, I can just watch and listen to how each of them affects the left, and that is the prime indicator of which would be the best president...and so far they laugh and/or ignore huckleberry, and attack Palin out of fear...So, as of now, I'm sticking with Palin.

Romney's an empty suit and a RINO...so he is defintely out. He did endorse Palin, but he was trying to shoo some of Huckleberry's supporters over there to dilute the vote, hoping to make some hay out of it for himself.

You’re okay with his pro-amnesty, pro-illegals, open-borders stance? You agree that killers should be set free to kill again?
